Yes, I was asking because it's nice to see that Pentax is alive and well. Any long quiet periods are a cause of worry for me.

Gitzo Traveler and Manfrotto head

Thanks for the help guys, I found that the Gitzo heads have the male stud in them and need a converter to attach another head onto the Traveler column. I've decided to order another, sturdier tripod to take the weight of the heftier Pentax lenses.

It would be nice to see Ricoh to release ANY Pentax product - it's certainly been a while.

Gitzo Traveler and Manfrotto head

I bought a Gitzo Traveler 2 kit a few years ago and have been fairly happy with it. However, recently I wanted a head which was Arca Swiss compatible so that I could keep my Peak Design plate on my K1. As Arca isn't represented in Russia, I found a Manfrotto head that was Arca compatible so I ordered it.

After I got it home, I found the head to be female but so is the Gitzo column! I thought they were all compatible with each other. What an idiot.

Does that mean I now need to buy a Manfrotto tripod or is there a way of attaching the two?

As you can see, I'm not well up on tripods and accessories

New DA* lenses - SDM in 2017

Exactly. I loved the 16-50 - great quality, fairly light and compact (in comparison to the DFA 24-70) but I can't use it all the time.

Yes, the new DFA 24-70, 15-30 and 70-200 2.8 lenses. The SDM isn't the same design though.

Hi All,

Several years ago, I bought the DA* 16-50 and 50-135 lenses. Sure enough, the SDM failed on them and I had them converted to screw drive. I eventually sold them but now I'm missing them and thinking of getting them once more. Do you think the SDM problem has finally been solved if I bought them new?

Are there still issues with the SDM even if bought new? I know that in a pinch, the other DA* lenses can be converted to screw drive but the 55 can't.

K1 Support on Linux

I'm contemplating switching over to Linux as my Mac Pro is getting long in the tooth.

Does anyone know if either Digikam or Darktable support the K1? I'm thinking mainly for DAM duties although if Darktable supports editing for K1 that would be great. I understand that RAWTherapee supports the K1 but is an editor only.

Thank you!

What is your workflow& software used for digital processing?

For me, after trying various options I have found that Capture One produces the best output for me. This is my workflow:

Edit my shoot in Capture One in a session NOT a catalog. I then import the contents of the Selects and Output folders into Photo Supreme where I tag all the photos.

I also use Photoshop when I need heavy editing.

No, it disengages the autofocus like it should. Everything seems to work fine other than the focus ring that is jammed.

Yes of course, I pulled the clutch towards the camera so it hides the 'auto focus' label but the focusing ring still refuses to turn.

FA* 85mm 1.4 focus clutch jammed

I managed to get hold of an FA* 85mm from a second hand camera store. It wasn't cheap but it was a lens I've been after for a while. I tested it in store on my K1 both inside the shop and out to see if all was okay.

However, I forgot to check that the focus clutch was working and when I got it home I realised the focusing ring is jammed in place and cannot be used, I checked that the clutch was in the manual position and the lever on the K1 was set to MF. The autofocus works absolutely fine - which is what I tested in the shop.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it a fairly simple fix? I'd rather not have a refund as I really like the pictures this lens produces and I don't know if I'd ever see another one again - especially here in Moscow. Then again I don't want to be stuck with it if it's unrepairable.

What do you guys think? What would you do?

If you got permission from the bride and groom to use your flash surely it's got nothing to do with the pros - especially if you stayed out of their way.

I was initially disappointed with the 24-70 as I was getting soft results at f2.8. However, I discovered that I needed some AF adjustment. I'm now incredibly happy with this lens.
