M lenses on K20D

I know this has been discussed here several times but I never needed to know how to use them. I have been given 3 M series lenses. I put them on the K20D and no surprise, the body can't meter with these lenses. Is my only option to get a handheld light meter?

Thanks.

K20D file names

Ok. So I am really trying to get my RAW files organized. I want my file to be year-mm-dd
example 2010-01-31 for filing. What my K20D is doing is 100_0131 and if I shoot another day without exporting photos there will be another folder that says 101_0201. I don't understand why it is doing this. I have set in my menu to name by date, but I also want the year in my file name. A friend has a Canon rebel and her camera came with software to organize the files. I tried using the Pentax photo browser 3 and that did not give any solutions either. I know this camera has to be able to put the damn year on it's file ext.

Previously I was just importing my pictures into Lightroom and then I realized I was making a dup. copy of all my RAW files. So I want to save room on the HD and not have to make a copy each time I import into LR. So Any suggestions or help is very appreciated.

Please help me.. :(

How do you do it? I have a tripod so, check on that item. Do I want to do a low ISO and do a bulb exposure with the tripod? And would I want to use a zoom? Hmm. I would love to know because tonight is our area's big display and I am going to attempt to get some pictures... Any help is welcome!!

I have a tammy 70-300mm DI II
FA 50 f/1.4
DA 40mm f/2.8...

what to use and how to set it up....

Thanks....

The Da 40 at f2 or f1.4 doesn't exist since it is a f/2.8. LOL funny. I probably do need the extra distance. I have mostly tried using it on babies and have been close to them...

So for Christmas I got the FA 50mm f1.4 and for some reason, I don't have good results with it. It is hard for me to get used to the very shallow DOF. I have the 40mm f2.8 and I love that lens... it is so sharp and I have never had any issues with it. If I focus on a subject's nose with the 50 at F2 the eyes are blurry. My husband uses the 50 and has no problems... what am i doing wrong? I want to love this lens because it is so fast and I wanted the nice bokeh but seriously.. I want sharp pictures too sometime...

help!!

That is such a relief that my k20d is ok. Love that camera! How do I change the color space? Is that a camera setting or software issue?

I had a K10D and upgraded to the K20D. I rarely change the image size of my pictures. I just import raw into LR do a few tweeks and export high quality Jpgs. I noticed that my K20D pictures seem "pixel-ie" compared to my k10d pictures on my mac gallery. K20d pict are under Fun..

K20D body only or kit?

Will my experience with Sigma lenses is that they have been stiff to zoom and very noisey when focusing. has that been your experience? I found the Pentas 16-45 for $309 at amazon. My snobbish veiw is if I am going to get a nice zoom why not get the 16-50 F2.8? You never know when you may need more light.. Faster is better in my opion... with primes at least. I have not been able to afford a fast zoom, yet.

Will, thanks for your thoughts. $$ is always an issue, isn't it? I considered selling my 40mm f/2.8 but it is so small and cute! Not to mention I love it! A lens I got for christmas FA 50 F/1.4 I have a love hate relationship with. It is so fast but wide open I can't get what I want it to focus on, in focus. However that is my husbands favorite lens and he will now have the K10D. so you see that leave my Tammy 70-300mm and I would not be so smart to sell that lens. I like the results, when I have the ocassion to use it and the price was good... So that leaves me with nothing really to fund a better lens right now... other than the potential K20D $$. :( again so conflicted. One of my main reasons for wanting the new body is to free up the K10D so my hubby can come shoot with me.. I don't like to share my "bodies" with him much... LOL

I am currently in my late 20's (at least for another few months :O ) and I have to admit i stopped shooting for awhile when I was struggling to pay bills BECAUSE I was shooting film/slide film. I went on vacation to FL and when I came back with 5 rolls of slide film after processing and printing I'd spent over $100 and the results were not that great. (first time shooting on a sunny beach)

Has your son taken a basic photo class? He would have learned about the concept of apertures and shutter speed there. I have always wanted to do one of those workshops on location, and if it was with one of my parents, it would be a dream come true. It would be ideal to set it up for a few months after his birthday and if he wants to get a digital Pentax he can purchase it himself. If he does then you can surprise him with a "new" lens.. (either new or second hand new) This way he can put effort and money into his own equipment and you are developing a new way to bond with your adult son...

hope this helps! Do you want to "adopt" a photo girl?! LOL :p

The father already has a scanner, so on that accord there would not be any output financially. (sure that is misspelled.)

I had bought a LCD protector for my K10D and I really like it. I got it from the advice I found here and I can't remember the name of it now. The protector is two pieces one for the back LCD and one for the top LCD and they are a hard plastic. Does anyone know the name of these little gems? I would like to get them for a new K20D I want to buy.

My K10D will be kept if I go to the K20D, it will be used by my husband. And by used I mean maybe once every 3 months! So in theroy I would have 2 bodies, if I wanted to carry them about. I currently have the old kit lens 18-55mm, ltd 40mm f/2.8, FA 50mm f1.4 and the Tamron 70-300 Di. If i get the K20D and I am going to get the kit becuase I know the reviews have said the II version is better than the previous version. I was never 100% satisfied with my copy but a friend has the K200D and they seem to have better luck with their kit lens. If I was to get a lens I would want something to replace the old kit lens. I am really leanig towards the K20D kit, my husband doesn't usually let me spend $800 at any given time... (and there are obvious reasons to why!) :) I think if I keep my eyes out on ebay or here I can get lenses at a decent price. Quite honestly I don't NEED to buy either but I hear so many great improvements have been made from the K10D! So it seems I am decided... for now at least.

So I currently have a delima and I can't figure out what to do. So as a "spring present" I can either upgrade my camera from K10D to K20D or get a lens. Obviously the lens is a more economical route. I was considering the Pentax DA 10-17mm fisheye or a f.28 zoom in the range of 15-70 or so.. Not sure if I'd stay strictly Pentax on that one or not. I know glass is always a better "investment" but I know that there are some awesome upgrades in the K20D that I would like. I honestly don't think I will ever move to a FF DSLR, even if Pentax ever makes one. it would just be overkill for me..

Things I am looking forward to on the K20D, AF adjustment, liveview, and "better" IQ. I always thought I may have a bit of a focusing issue with my K10D but never sent it in and now the warranty is over.

Any suggestions......?

I like domke bags however anyone who might "know" about cameras will be able to spot a domke right away. I have a crumpler bag and because they have a variety of bright colors, to me, it doesn't scream I have a camera in this bag.
