Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...glad someone is getting their hands on a K-50. Ordered mine directly from Pentax on June 20th. On July 15th I get an e-mail stating that "due to an unusually large response" it will take even longer than the 4-6 weeks originally stated. Bad for me, great for Pentax.

Adam, THoog and Ioco,
Thanks for the excellent feedback. Guess I was thinking that thread wear would be more pronounced on the plastic mounts not to mention being potentially more sensitive to temperature changes, Basically, if the optics aren't impaired there's no reason to feel threatened by the plastic mounts. And thanks for that comprehensive list of all of the plastic mount lenses, Adam. Good info.

So...I almost cancelled my order for the K-50 due the 18-55 WR lens having a plastic mount (which I read about in an article in another thread). Thought Pentax was pulling a fast one until further research indicated that the both 18-55 WR and their other WR lens have plastic mounts. Is this true? Do they make a WR lens with a metal mount? Are plastic mounts as bad as they sound? Anyway since it appears they are not pulling a "fast one" I am letting the order stand. Besides, I saw some images created from rather inexpensive Pentax Prime lenses that just blew me away. Plus seeing the following link didn't hurt either. Compared to the K-30 no noticeable difference at ISO 100, not so at ISO 800. Compared to both Nikon D5200 and Canon EOS Rebel T4i was like night and day, at least in terms of color vibrancy/contrast. It's a cool site for comparing camera images.

Yeah, I had considered that and that was the route I was going to take before finding out about the K-50. I just felt, for the hundred-odd dollars difference in price I would rather take advantage of the newer technology. Really anxious to check it out, so these will be a loooooooooooooooooooooong 4 weeks.

Glad to see all the defenders of the K-30 as it bodes well for my K-50 which I will receive in about 4 weeks. It was a tough decision between the two, well actually I had decided on the K-30 after much research on all brands over the last 12 months when I found out about the K-50 and its 18-55 WR lens package, released at a price point lower than the K-30 when it was released. While many seem to discount the improvements made with the K-50, focusing almost exclusively on the ISO, it was those advances and the lens that made my decision easier (who doesn't want a sharper image with less noise?). This is a huge step up from my Fujifilm FinePix S700 on my way, eventually, to a full-frame model. So I will explore my new camera to its fullest, suffer the slings and arrows of style snobs and bask in the accumulated knowledge of the more experienced, technologically astute (can anyone recommend a really good primer on lenses?) and avid, photographers whom seem to populate this forum. My interest lies in taking pictures. Of everything.
