I recently found a Focal 28-70, f3.5-4.5 brand new in the box with the original price of $100. It's proving to be a rather nice lens and fun to use. I accidentally ran across a Sears lens of the same size and the boxes are nearly identical. Both lenses were made in Korea. The lenses are identical to the naked eye. I'm just beginning to use mine, but it does show promise.

The huge variety of hand tools is astonishing, plus, the lovely woodwork on the cabinets shows how they were used to create beautiful work. I would love to roam freely through that shop to see the tools more closely. Really, quite a wonderful collection!

If you had read what I wrote, you might have said something else.
"My long-awaited lens, the :
The day was mostly overcast, getting late and rain gathered in a great soggy balloon over our heads, about to burst. The discarded Japanese shipping paper rustled on the porch. I shot what I could find, hand held, trying to figure out the preset. I should have checked all the settings but a drop of rain hit me on the forehead. I took some shots to check the focus and bokeh. A couple more show that rather 3-D effect and near-macro ability. Perhaps somebody else can post a review of Machu Picchu using this tiny Japanese lens. The platform is yours."
I made no pretense of showing my best shots, just highlighting the process of receiving a long-awaited lens. The few shots that I took, despite the bad light, served--just to check if the lens was operating correctly. Despite the low quality of the shots that short session showed me that the lens focused correctly and demonstrated the bokeh I expected. I'm not even sure I ever looked at the foreground focus on the last two shots, because rain was pinging on my head.
I also do not have a K-1 camera and a bunch of Limited lenses. Nice collection, BTW. The money spent on good glass will make or break a photographer in today's arena. Such lenses make stunning pictures in the right hands.
But your remarks ignored all that and they were quite harsh. I on the other hand, have learned my lesson--not to put up a review until you've really gotten the feel for a lens; it gives some people a wrong impression of me as an artist, which effectively shuts the door to much else. And I did it to myself.

First shots with the Kuribayashi C.C. Petri Orikkor 50mm f2 lens from 1959. Oh, I love the old glass!
I had written a review that took quite a while to do and when I attempted to post photos in the review section, I lost everything. I find it very hard to post in this forum--much harder than any other forum I've ever used. I doubt that I'll waste any more time trying this in the future. Frankly, the software sucks. What a shame.
Petri film SLR cameras from the 1960s with M42 lens mounts were often equipped with lenses marked Petri Kuribayashi or Petri Orikkor (sometimes misspelled Orrikor in eBay ads). The 35 mm f/3.5 of this series, in particular, has been discovered for UV photography by Steve Smeed (MFlenses bulletin board, ClubSnap forum) and shown (e.g. by Klaus Schmitt, Photography of the Invisible World blog) to exhibit a higher transmission in the near UV than the Noflexar 35 mm, and a useful transmission down to 320-330 nm. Mounted on a focusing helicoid for use in the macrophotography range on a Micro 4/3 camera, this lens exhibits excellent properties in UV photography, including a high image quality at apertures between f/8 and f/16. Note: all of the lenses (like this one) reflect gold off of the front element, not blue. It's the signature of the notable UV lenses.
My long-awaited lens:

The software is pathetic. I had a career in computers and never saw anything as screwed up as this mess. NOT user friendly. I'm out of here.

The day was mostly overcast, getting late and rain gathered in a great soggy balloon over our heads, about to burst. The discarded shipping paper rustled on the porch. I shot what I could find, hand held, trying to figure out the preset. I should have changed the settings but a drop of rain hit me on the forehead. I took some shots to check the focus and bokeh. Perhaps somebody else can post a review and cover a lot of the other stuff using luscious models in wild-animal-skin bikinis slinking around Machu Picchu. The platform is yours.

You're right. I didn't want him to feel pressured to explain what he was thinking/doing re the Kx, but that's pretty stupid I guess. I will have an honest conversation with him about it. Appreciate your input.

My son is a jeweler and purveyor of minerals at the gem and mineral shop that he and his wife recently opened in Newport, RI. He needed a better camera for his jewelry work and so I gave him my Kx and a couple of lenses, including a fast 50 with macro. I honestly don't remember which particular lens it was, but I was trying to set him up with a good system. He seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with it when I asked how it was working out. He said that he mostly likes a small but good point-and-shoot. He seems to be quite satisfied with his own setup and gets good pix. Now I wish I hadn't sent that camera into oblivion. (Idiot!)
I am reluctant to question him about the fate of that setup, but it seems a waste to let him keep it if he's not using it. The Kx was one of my favorites. I mentioned that it has good resale value but he is a very busy person and never really told me what he had done. How can I ask him to sell it or return it so it's not simply sitting in a case not being used? I don't want to seem like an Indian giver, but my effort to involve him with Pentax has fallen on its face and I'm stuck about what to do. Any suggestions? I sure would love to have him become a Pentaxian but I seem to have overstepped there.

While I do hear that we should restrict our conversation to "Pentax users in the wild", it's nice to hear from members who have not been heard from. I apologize for running off the rails, but with Covid around, this thread might suffocate from lack of input. That would be a shame.
