Photo is not a total set-up. Paddle was held, and ping pong ball dropped from about a foot above the paddle. Actual shutter speed was 1/50th sec.

Drag/Drop from a flash card on which the images were copied from a Mac laptop, to the folder on my computer. Others have told me it was the Mac "two-fork" system that caused the problems, and that there is no way to recover my images. I did try an image recovery program to no avail. Thanks to everyone who answered. -- tom

This, I would guess, is not a Pentax problem, but I'm hoping someone here might know the answer.
Using a USB flash card, I copied images taken with a Kodak digital camera from a laptop into a folder on my computer containing images taken with my Pentax K20D. The Kodak images did not show up, the file designations on all the Pentax images in the folder were changed, and I no longer can open them.
My Pentax file designation is like this: A__1234.jpg. They were replaced with this: ._100_1234.JPG. (Note the dot at the beginning.) The Kodak file designations are like this: P1234567.JPG.
(The Pentax numbers stayed the same. Example: A__4837.jpg was changed to ._100_4837.JPG)
Any ideas on what happened, and how to fix it? Thank you!

OK -- I hit the reset button, and now I get sound. So, whatever it was causing the problem, it was fixed.

Bought the P80 just a few months ago. Everything worked fine. Now family is visiting, want to make videos, and it won't record sound. (Both with moves and as sound recorder.) Been through the manual three times t check settings. Can't find any setting mistakes. Lacking product failure, any ideas on anything I could have done to mess it up?

I want to enter the monthly contests. Instructions indicate I can post a picture in the Advanced Posting Screen, or copy a photo's URL from PBase, etc. into the message space. I want to use the former method, but when I go to the Submit Contest Photo forum and click on New Thread as directed, I get the message screen, and I click on the "Manage Attachments button" as directed (see below), but no Advanced Posting Screen button appears. How do I get to it? (I am registered and logged in.) Thanks!
9. File attachments
The advanced posting screen lets you attach files to your posts. Simply click the "manage attachments" button and then select a file from your computer to upload. Please keep all photos as small as possible and no wider than 800 pixels. Note that you can upload a maximum of 2 Mb of files total (20Mb if you have donated to the site).

Thanks guys. I'm sure I did post the original entry in the right place, and using the site address. I was posting here now just to answer Adam's comment. But thanks for taking the time to reply. I probably did goof -- everyone else seems to get it right!

I uploaded the picture to Flicker, then copied the site address and sent it. Here it is again: [URL="http://http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2239/2459395257_d03ae17677_s.jpg. Did this come through?

I just recently joined Pentax Forums, and find it a great source of interesting and informative comments. And the photos in the monthly contests are great. I am disappointed though, because my antiquated modem connection cannot access all of the contest entries in anything close to a timely manner.
In the March voting thread, for example, it took two hours and 40 minutes to bring up no more than half of the 70-plus images! Could the images in the voting thread be made smaller to accommodate viewers like myself? With an option of bringing up a larger version by clicking each image? (There must be others who still use a modem!) Thanks for your consideration. --Tom

Thanks, Rob. Your advise is sound. I figure I have as much of a chance of learning how to fly a 747 jetliner as I do learning how to work with the firmware instructions for "solving" this problem. (I do have a BF problem with the 16-45.) I'm just 20 minutes away from the Pentax Service Dept. address on the manual. Don't know if they take walkups, but will give it a try. Thanks again!
Tom Edit Note: Forgot to say, if you think you have a BF or FF issue, I recommend you don't screw with reflashing earlier firmware versions to get that maintenance menu as many have done, some successfully, others not. Take the trouble to send it to Pentax for repair, otherwise you may not only void your warranty, but screw your camera as well.

I've just read on dpreview that the K10D has auto focus problems, and one must calibrate each of his lenses to properly focus by downloading new firmware, and then going through a long list of instructions.
Is it true that each K10D owner has to do this in order to get the camera to focus properly with different lenses? I have never heard of such a thing. If true, can't Pentax make a repair that makes the camera able to auto focus with all lenses? Thanks for your replies. Tom

This probably will be of no help, but it's worth a shot. The first time I tried working with .pef from the D10, I couldn't get them to show up in the Pentax Laboratory. I didn't realize both .pef and .jpg were showing up in the browser, and I had been clicking on the .jpg images! Duh!

Hi Aegon --
Spyglass laid it out really well. I'll just mention a few specifics for the pic at hand. I would crop out about half of the sky. I would forget the bridge -- the fisheye doesn't do it any favors, and it is of little graphic importance. (This may seem rather impudent to say, seeing as the title is "Bridge photo," but really, it isn't a bridge photo. It is a picture of the fort. I would crop away the bottom, and "start" the picture just after the bridge railing. The foliage makes a good frame on the sides. To paraphrase Spyglass: the lesson here is to know what it is you rare taking a picture of. (Stay away from "busying" up your pic.) Cropping will give you an excellent picture of the fort. If you want a picture of the bridge, search out different angles. You probably will wind up with two fine pictures!

Sorry not to have responded sooner. Problem is solved. Chalk up another one to pilot error. I forgot the RAW software shows jpg images as well as pef. I was clicking on a jpg image.

I've had my K10 for about three weeks and find it under exposes a third of a stop for my taste. Easily corrected in camera or by PP, and not anything to worry about. It's a great camera.

This is my first contest here. I think I have entered an image, but I'm not sure. When I went back to my post, I didn't see my picture -- just the red x in the box. I thought we were able to see our own entries, so I must have done something wrong. Right?

I recently bought a K10D from B&H. It had no warranty/registration card in the box. I know B&H to be one of the most trusted sellors on the internet, and have done business with them on and off through a span of some 55 years. But, should I be worried about the lack of a card? I guess I should try registering it on line, and see what happens.

Another good suggestion to check out, but again, no -- I had it set on custom. Maybe I should try a reinstallation. Either that, or punt.

Thanks, Albert, for suggesting that possibility, but nope, RAW is set to PEF.
