Just added a Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 to the kit. Two weeks to try it out. Loved using it at the local car show, trip to the city next week to try some cityscape/night shots perhaps.

I've been for a few walks with the camera now and have tried a few basic shots. Played with the HDR feature a bit too. Sadly, it doesn't seem to allow saving the combined image as a RAW file. Best I could do was to save the last of the three shots taken as RAW. Unfortunately, the menu does not offer over/under first and the correct exposure last so as to save the best of the three as a RAW shot at least. Hmm..does anyone know of a work around here or is that a limitation on this feature. I'm still exploring the menu and manual so I may well have missed something here. I haven't done the software update yet, is there a fix in that?

I was thinking of going out to the local pier for some evening shots before work but something else came up. The next day I see this posted by a friend on fb. Maybe it is a good thing I missed that night out, or it could have been quite the show. No one hurt as far as I know, excepting ego of course.

Well, I took the bait and am currently trying out the K-30 with the 18-135WR lens. Added a C-PL (polarizer) to it on day two and found that to be sufficient to take slow water shots with. Really enjoying the faster power up and focus with much better clarity as expected from the DSLR although I still pack my Lumix with me (for reach). All shots so far have been off tripod as I get a feel for the image stabilization abilities of the K-30. I also forgot how much I used to enjoy doing close ups with my old KX before I went compact digital. :) Having fun again. I will try to put a few shots up if my slow internet connection will allow. Nothing stellar, but getting a feel for the camera.

Thanks all, if I get the K-30 with the 18-135WR my first order of activity will be to reacquaint myself with a real camera and it's functions. Next up, I will see how my old primes (35/2.8 and 50/1.8) function on the new body and in conjunction with my doubler, helicoid extension and Minolta flash. I also have an older 85-210 macro brick I may try out of curiosity but don't foresee myself packing anywhere. Lurking in the closet is a third party 500mm lens with a non Pentax mount I have never tried. I may see if I can locate the right pentax adapter for that horse's leg without losing an arm and a leg of my own in the process.

As I move forward in this quest I do foresee myself bringing questions to this forum and am grateful in advance for all the accumulated knowledge and experience floating around out there willing to help their fellow Pentaxian. Power to the pack, thanks bros. :)

I may be joining your ranks soon. If today's camera hunt goes as planned I should return with a K-30 and 18-135WR lens. I have some Pentax equipment from my younger days which is an incentive to enter the Pentax DSLR world.

My first foray into digital was the Pentax Optio 43WR. A rugged and willing little unit although it was only 4 MP and 2.8x zoom. I have since been shooting primarily with Panasonic ZS5 and 10 variants and getting lots of use and fun out of them. The convenience of pulling a capable 16x shooter out of your pocket at a moments notice is fantastic and has changed travel/posterity photography dramatically.

Alas, the tiny sensor can only handle so much detail and I am now being tempted by the upscale cameras with their higher quality images. I briefly considered the Fuji X-S1 but decided to target cameras with at least a 1" sensor and preferably larger. Recent price action on the K-01 was an opportunity I just missed as that camera with an 18-200/250 would have made for a great starter pack and easy on the budget.

I am currently looking at the K-30 with 18-135WR to get me back into things. Thinking of Haze/Polarizer/ND, spare battery and/or AA adapter to round out the package. Any thoughts on options or alternates would be greatly appreciated. I shoot recreationally and mostly landscape morning/evening, some sports & family as well.

Thanks and happy trails all.
