For each Pentaxian buying K-1 another Nikon/Canon shooter jumped ship to Pentax

... thats just like... your oppinion man.

lookin at what package PENTAX decided to offer for its first full frame(the K-1)...(high MP, tacky design etc.)... i just wouldnt say that.
It actually sits in the same boat as D800 series... (but not on the best seat)

Canons 5Ds actually has already more than 50MP resolution... its above the D850 resolution, and it was released 2015...
so its obvious the successor of the 5Ds will also have 4K and higher framerates like around 10fps burst.
So why for Petes sake, would any sane Canon user jump ship now? ...dont get it

No, actually Nikon is fishing exactly where Pentax decided to go fishing with the K-1 and its called
The Ocean of "I-do-want-to-upgrade-to-fullframe-and-I-want-high-res-because-i-dont-know-how-to-hold-a-cam-even-if-either-its-lens-or-body-has-stabilizer-technology-and-when-I-downsize-my-failed-results-no-one-will-notice"
(Some also call it theOcean of: "I-didnt-know-that-high-res-sensor-cameras-demand-steady-hands-because-higher-res-makes-the-slightest-shake-visible-why-the-hell-doesnt-this-SR-tech-help-me")

And since it is a fact that one who can bash out 2000 bucks for a full frame and knows if he wants 1-2 good to excellent lenses he will have to shell out at least 2000 more;
He/She may also consider a D850 for app. 3000-3400 in conjunction with a used "Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm 2.8E FL ED" that actually costs(new) about the same as Pentaxes 70-200 lens, whilst offering far superior stabilizer experience beyond 135mm because,
not only that its also weather sealed, additionally to its lightning fast AF-drive the Nikon lens also has a stabilizer built in, that feels like it works like its freezing your hands or respectively your frame.

Keep in mind:

Pentax DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 with K-70 and KP?

totally agree... IQ of that lens for sure could not compete with the DA* and it aint fast either.
nonetheless its a lens that makes you smile and the AF speed is good for catching funny or remarkable moment (and that in FOCUS.) ;)
(never experienced hunting on that "little bugger")

And for sure there is no need to argue, if you know your gear, you maybe take the same shot with a slower focusing lens... (but AFAIK both lenses are pretty much the same when focusing... So all this is "just sayin"! Sry, its been quite a while since I handled a 16-50 2.8 but my guts say the 18-50 is focusing a bit faster, correct me if I am wrong.)

And you are also right, that 2mm difference make a huge difference at the wide end.

just sayin, that he may be happy with that lens as a cheap replacement until we see a Double-PLM... (Dont know if hes doing production work or just fun shooting/hobby)
(i am sure RICOH will do something about AF-drive soon... whatever that tech will be called...) version of the DA* 16-50 2.8 ... just my 2 cents.

pic below was shot with the aformentioned lens (18-50 DC WR) (mounted on an older K-3 body)
at 30mm with the widest aperture possible at that length(F:4,5) for the 15th of a second(1/15s) - ISO 3200
(as mentioned in my review of the lens ... with harsh light coming from the left and WITHOUT a lenshood.)

Good idea?

Looking at the latest news from the industry ....

850 reasons to add a "plus one" here or to comment so Ricoh may stop listening to the nay-sayers and pessimists,
(oh no ! maybe RICOH goes bankrupt if we demand costy features!!!)
that would buy a Pentax anyway.
(Just because we were big once, there is PENTAX written on the cam and we also offer mid-format)

As said before, I dont render dat good for the PENTAX brand.(OR k-mount system ...)
(Reason why i always insisted on less MP for our first FF was, that a Nikon shortly after the release of the Pentax Full Frame, -with the specs of the now new born 850- was as inevitable as foreseeable...)

You only have to keep one thing in mind:
Pentax is DOOMED anyway. :)

if you would excuse me again... i think i may have to return to "Castle Wolfenstein" now. ;)

The Full Frame: What will make you buy it?

Again, these things will make me buy one:

24.5MP
CF-Card slot and an SD-Card slot
since it has a CF-Card Slot and a 24.5MP FF-Sensor, it will be capable of:
at least -> 10 FPS in RAW-Mode
endless RAW shooting
a rotatable or at least tiltable screen built like a tank so i can use it from the height of my hip or my belly

+all Features that are already implemented in the K-3II body.

more is not needed.

some exciting new tech would be cool but it would not make my decision.

Tony Northrup is KING.

Those guys are just a clown show. OK, i also have my sarcastic moments. Especially since i read that the ff will have a 36MP sensor. "Since then, I always have this twitching under my left eye..."

BUT - The K-1 is actually a great camera and for sure the biggest bang for the buck on the market at the moment...(lets wait for Sony on Photokina - i guess/hope the res. of the A99II -if it gets airborne- will be below the one of the K-1(28-32MP) ... so it may have better IQ, be faster and offer more when it comes to video then the K-1)

Though i dont understand Tonys point saying that PENTAX would be better with only APS-C. That is simpy not true. Other format other thing.
PLUS if I want to make the exact same pictures with APS-C as i could with a FF Pentax with an FA 85mm 1.4 mounted, wouldnt the lens on the K-3 have to be a 55mm 0.9 on APS-C...??
The equivalent of the "FA ltd. 31mm F:1.8" would have to be a "DA 20mm with 1.2"!!!
et cetera, et cetera

(And that is what i dont see in the next two years... APS-C lenses with aperture stops around 1.0 or under) Sry Tony you failed.

On the other hand, I think he only wanted to do a bit of advertising for the Sigma DC 50-100 1.8...
... I dont think there will be loads of new lenses like this... maybe one more from sigma....

So i keep my fingers crossed for another FF in a few months or one year...

I always asked myself why so many pentaxians talk bad about Pentax. Now i feel, like i am in the club now.
bulky resolution, no 4k vid, slow still fps,

the counterpart of every PENTAX APS-C DSLR...
...which all seem to have a "sane" sensor resolution, relatively high still fps(at least the flagships) etc...

and hey... not even 60 fps in full hd video mode.. OK not so many people who do photography would do Video and need that, but c'mon...
that hints that there is too less CPU power, what makes me think "the interface must be dead slow, and i dont want to think about continuous shooting with this retiree...

overall nice camera. But what do they say in the UK? Pennies add up to pounds...
*head-shaking* :(

Signs of New Pentax Q Soon?

Because having both is a really big thing. Believe me. :) I had a "Sigma 150-500 HSM OS" mounted on my K-3. i switched on both stabilizers and man, it worked like a charm.

I guess this is the reason, that sigma still puts the OS in the Pentax-mount lenses.

They would not build the pentax lenses with OS, if this would deliver bad results or would be a problem.
And if you somehow solve the very difficult task to freak out the combo-Stabilization by shivering like having a latent parkinson or something alike, your are allowed to switch it off.

IMHO COMBO-OS or COMBO-SR if you wish so, is a very big thing. Some Bridge-Cameras with a very long zoom range also have both. And I really would not go so far to say, those Bridge-Cam-Engineers did wrong(and studied for ZIP), rather i would say having both is very innovative and desirable. Like i pointed out already, its really a magnificent feeling to have a K-3 with Sigmas stabilized "long gun" and speaking for my self it not only stabilzes the lens.

If you see how calm and still the picture is when you look through your K-3's viewfinder with the stabilized long Sigma lens mounted plus SR switched ON; I swear you will feel as cool as captain cold.
Ice cold.

I mean this is not only cool. It is really awesome.

1st) the OS does a really good job
2nd) having in camera SR in addition that already stabilizes a bit makes you feel much more calm
3rd) when you look through the viewfinder you can feel the stillness and this not only stabilizes the picture.

I swear to GOD: It stabilzes yourself!!! I felt solid like f...... Mount Everest with this combo in my hands, but i just couldnt effort it so i had to send it back.
(Car Repairs and such... this is always a big ouch...)

It would be progress that does not hurt anybody. Because you could switch of the stabilizer you dont like. If you have some kind of "Superhero-Feeling" you could turn of both stabilizers... I dont see a problem in this.
And if the 150-450 would have had an ILS or OS or "whatsoever" built in, i would consider to buy it.

But as it seems i will rather buy a 150-500 Sigma or a 150-600 HSM OS Sigma Sports(which i am pretty sure they will build when PENTAX FF sales start to roll... :P ) somewhen in the near future...

But if there would be a Q-S2 with EVF and such a stabilized "Superzoom Q-Lens" i would rather buy that solution, because it would be:
1st) cheaper
2nd) lighter
3rd) smaller
etc.
And i really prefer the Q solution, because i dont have the feeling that i will ever have my wildlife photography published in some magazine or so. Nope. This is only for my private joy, and considering that, a used sigma will have to do or like i explained such a superzoom solution for the Q System.

And even if some paper or mag would show interest in my wildlife-photography, the resolution and IQ of the images that for instance the Q-S1 delivers would be sufficient for that.

Just look at the following picture. Crisp clear awesome pix without the slightest photoshopping...straight out of your Q with a Q standard zoom...
I only imagine how good such a dedicated Q-Superzoom for 400-600 bucks would deliver... WOW.

What Pentax FF needs

As i always say: "Every progress is welcome"...
but I dont know why exactly you think that one will need such a thing... I shot a wedding a whole day long... Approxemitely 2100 photos...

You know how much batteries i used? 1.

Yes one g066amn battery. - 2100 Photos. :)

About why one battery in the cam + one in the grip:

If i would ever think that i will shoot about 4500-5000 photos on one day... *lol*
I would first put a fresh battery into my K-5, mount my batterygrip, put a battery in, switch on the cam, then I would choose "use BG Battery first".
Switch off. use camera. shoot shoot shoot.
Battery in the battery-grip used up? no problem. I go on with the internal battery, while i cram out the next battery of my jeans pockets.
Change Battery... Result? --> internal battery at 95% - A fresh battery in the Grip... shoot shoot shoot...
What would i do if the rare situation that i would have shot about 7000 photos and i still want to go on occurs?? I would then cram out the AA-Battery drawer filled up with fresh Duracells, take out the DI-L-Battery-Drawer, shove in the AA's and go on shooting.

Maybe there are situations when i also would want a "2 Battery BG", but i just can not imagine that at the moment.
Maybe people who use the Live-View a lot would welcome such a thing, or videographers...
But people who are more into Video would not buy Pentaxes or Leicas... they would go Canon or Sony....
But here we are... Here is the point where the monkey jumps into the water(My maths teacher used to say that... German... :D )

Thing is:
Enhanced Video capabilities as well as the option to record 4K Video at least at 26 fps.
Full HD video at high framerates...like 200fps or so. for slow motion videos...
Full HD RAW video at 60fps...
virtual follow focus ... etc.
Videographers would like that. If such features would be existent in the upcoming PENTAX FF DSLR i could imagine that such a Battery-Grip would also make sense. such a Video-BG could also have additional connection jacks for mains adaptors, microphones, headphones... some connector to pull out 4k directly onto another device ... etc.

But all of this is nothing our baby would really need.

Really needed:
magnesium alloy body
Dual-CPU and very fast memory modules..
speed speed speed.
a Sensor with very good resolution like 24.5 up to 32MP...
phase-AF in live-view
tiltable screen
AND either a very good:

"D-FA DC WR 24-120mm F:4.0" throughout. As both an argument and a statement for sense and quality - for about 649Euro.

or a

"D-FA L(light=plastic mount) DC WR 28-135mm F:4.0" throughout. As both an argument and a statement for dedication to young photographers who need cheap but high quality optics - for about 499Euro so we can buy it alongside the PENTAX FF DSLR in a kit.

This would offer lightning fast AF, WR, in combination with a very balanced FF DSLR
at app. 2149Euro for PENTAX FF DSLR+thisveryexcitingKITLENS

what would actually undercut Nikons price for "D750 Body+AF-S VR 24-120mm 4.0G ED"
which is available for about 2419 Euro at the moment..

Also not needed but it would be very cool for a really professional DSLR to be available in 5-6 different colors. :D
Cherry Edition - like the 645D special edition(or what it was called...)
Gunmetal Grey - like the K-3 ltd.
Metal Navy - coolest color with which the Q7 was available...
Military Edition - Olive green metal and a brown grip
Silver Special - with dark-brown leathering...
Plain Black...

FTF: The K-01 is not a DSLR...

i really think, that the K-01 mostly was designed to gain attention to the brand... it was kind of a provocateur and led many people to speculations what about some kind of translucent mirror and so on... could be ... sleepless nights. should i buy. it looks so cool. man it looks gross. disgusting. what a new toilet paper tissue holder from marc newsson? kinda that stuff.

and for hipster kids to shoot snapshots with it and the according 40mm XS AF lens...
and if you are a forbearing person you may be able to do great shots with it. But it i am pretty sure that it never was meant to be a serious shooter...

nonetheless i would like to put it in my vitrine and let my son play with it when he gets about 12 years old.

Focusing with manual lenses on normal Pentax DSLRs(K-5,K-5II,K-5IIs, K-3, K-3II, K-30, K-50, K-S1, K-S2 and so on) is a dream... mid-focus acitvated, - aim - a little left - a little right - beep -press shutter... You also have a catch-in focus feature available...
I am pretty sure the FF will not lack those features.

So we would have:

•) to lock pictures with AE-L Button when in Review Mode for instance or
•) zooming to at least 8x in deletion-mode
•) a function to tag pictures with different color dots so you can:
•) send the pictures to a destined server or online-service according to the color dot you tagged them with over WIFI...
(That would also work for Flu-Card enabled wifi-capable models)
•)Tethering enhancements: Capture Pilot style where you can view the images on a remote device and even rate, colorlabel and colorbalance the images besides controling the camera.

patarok & sbh & ... ?

Next one please?

plz, mods, let me do this in here. this is a very active thread. and I think a separate thread would not be "target aimed"...thank you.

Ricoh Imaging is not doomed (or: Ricoh Financial Results Q1 2016)
Posted By patarok

I absolutely disagree.... for some reasons: IF!!! If Pentax is just a Yakuza department... then they would really know how to bribe people like Canon and Nikon do... :)
At every corner you would see a Pentax. Designated american TV crime series that use color filters in about 40% of their scenes ;) , would show people that photograph the crime scenes exclusively with Pentax-Equipment.
And you would read reviews in photo-magazines, where exactly one and the same glass from SIGMA would have a totally bad de-facto resolution on NIKON DSLRs but mounted on PENTAX DSLR -abracadabra- wow... about twice the resolution as on the NIKON body....(lets keep in mind that SIGMA only has to adjust the positioning of the whole optical elements by 1.04mm to 46.5mm)
You'll ask: "Why should that be?" ... I guess because if one "invests" his money... in a company, he wants the company to be successful, sooner or later... And please don't believe crime lords only invest in "floating" companies... the more you see through, you want to close your eyes... really. believe me.

sincerely now:
Ricoh would only have to do more and better advertising... Let alone that spot for the "Theta S" -->

Youtu.be

is an epic fail, when it comes to the musical accompaniment.... MEGAFAIL at least from that point on where the synthie sound starts... and it really gets worse, when you see those people hanging around in the bar, a very strange piano sounds thru.. That would work for japanese people... But since the protagonists in this spot are all gaijin, i take a good guess and say, this should be the spot for the international market... Catastrophe... i would accept that music when i want to watch a stunning awesome anime movie... But you would kill european and american customers with this music... no way this spot with this music will lead to any success.. The spot itself doesn't look bad at all, but it could use less "cuts" and a bit more cool and calm.

The company has real cool products starting with those WG cameras to the, GR, the MX-1, K-5 series, K-3 series, and the K-50 really may be the best bang for the buck at the moment on the whole DSLR sector...(not to beat), 645 is an outstanding system....

What it needs now to gain real success: ADVERTISING, PRODUCT PLACEMENT, and if RICOH likes it or not, they will have to rebrand their imaging department back to PENTAX(with RICOH subtitle) ... PENTAX was a really big player in the photo business... around the 70ties for instance... there are so many pentax SLRs floating around in EUROPE and the other western world. it was THE name in photography business(and also for optical medical equipment) and since they succeeded real BIG with the Spotmatic and the LX it is an internationally well known brand. Whereas i have to admit i never really knew much about Ricoh in the photo-biz. and i think it never had a noticeable marketshare...
It just can't be that the Idea/brand/company that produced the FIRST SLR ON THE JAPANESE MARKET - P E N T A X !!!! looses ground now... (Nikon was still playing around with Rangefinder tech, and i dunno when Canon realized that SLRs will be the success)
And the only reason that you don't see the Pentax brand around is not only that the marketshare shrunk. It is because we are all brainwashed. And RICOH will also have to turn up with a huge Brainwash-Machinery to succeed. It will take more attempts like in Brian DePalmas "Femme Fatale"... To succeed and gain back marketshare.... And once the Full-Frame DSLR is out and production settles... They should concentrate on bringing more accessories for the PENTAX DSLRs like silicone hulls(the kids love it like candy ;) ).... furthermore they will have to do something about 3rd party support - Jinbei-Flashes... HSS and P-TTL to studio-flashes... a 1st Party wireless flashing(P-TTL over Radio) solution (or outsourced to cactus)

My recipe for GAIN BACK P E R C E P T I O N TO THE PENTAX BRANDNAME:

We'll need:
1 romantic movie where one of the newNsexy beaus waves around with a pentax DSLR...
2-3 action or crime movies where on will see the PENTAX brand.

several famous, surfers, skaters, divers, explorers and chefs
1 international news agency
10-20 "friends" working at photo magazines and photo and photo equipment related websites

a pot of gold for "promotional fees"

at least one television series that is particularly promising in europe and UK countries...
and one booming Crime-series in the US.

Now that we have all ingredients, we will need to buy those ingredients fresh from the market every year and concentrate on events to gain the attention of the youth.
So then will need surfers, skaters, divers and explorers with WG equipment. We stir that up with professional WG-cases for DSLRs and equip for instance military photographers with this kit. (and godd4mn yes, there has to be a hollywood movie also, where on can see the new version of Tom Hanks using this equipment)
Let settle a little and set aside.

Than we take our news agency and batter it for a while until we have settled a contract where we support their photographers with equipment...therefore you will accidentally see explicitly 4-5 photographers using PENTAX gear when TV reports about political or other press conferences...

et cetera, et cetera...

I'll take that assumption of yours and turn it upside down. And say:
Maybe Ricoh-Imaging is the last of the large camera producers, where no crime money gets invested... Could be some PENTAX Philosophy to bank on rationality, fun and functionality of their products instead of bribery et cetera...

But i wish that they will come to the point where they have to accept that this "recipe" above maybe the only way things would work out right for Ricoh-Imaging/PENTAX and therefore the Planet K-MOUNT... and its inhabiters :)

pardon my english(no native tongue)

no high frame rates? Are you serious? 8.5 fps is not fast? we already got that speed at a 24MP camera (though it is APS-C but that does not make any difference since the amount of data that has got to be transferred is the same...) OK... it is a bit away from the 11 pictures per second a Nikon D4 is able to shoot. But as processors improve and evolve and we now have 8.5fps at 24.somethingMP APS-C i really dont see any reason for us to not quench out 10-12 fps of a Pentax "LX-D" with a 24.5MP full frame sensor.(Given that this FF body has a faster image processing circuit with with maybe some PRIME IV and an additional CPU that it supports it for more speed) and i really have to admit the new af of my K-3 is kinda lightning fast and accurate enough. but hey, maybe i am just lucky... who knows...

Resurrecting Pentax firmware hacking
Posted By patarok
Replies: 765
here the reply to duc-drivers post:

i have done it on the k-5II so it should not be any problem on the K-5IIs.
First time I tried that on the new firmware 1.06 on the K-5II, I made a mistake that could happen easily to someone else:
I created a file called "00077680.536" with ms-notepad in which i wrote following lines:
[DEBUG_MODE EN]
[SW_DEBUG_MENU EN]
[OPEN_DEBUG_MENU]
[VLENS_CONTROL]

following the guidance of other people who successfully switched in to debug mode on their cameras i also created a second file with the naming:
DEVELOP.MOD

MY failure was not to check for a second suffix. That sounds weird but ms-notepad seems to tend to append a .txt suffix behind the suffix you gave the file when you save it as pure text file.
So i saw the "00077680.536" i created was actually named "00077680.536.txt" when i reviewed the contents of the directory that contained all the debug stuff with the "dir" command in cmd.exe. (You get to the old commandline when pressing WIN+R and then type in "cmd.exe" and then hit enter)

Then i reviewed the other file.
So essentially important is that you check those files for a "post-suffix".

Second: Many Operating Systems handle their files CASE-sensitive. So it really matters if you name the files with CAPITAL-letters or not.

Third: It may be a problem with the text-encoding if you are on strangeOS. Some operating-systems, file systems, applications and who the heck knows what else colludes here, tend to save text files with other encodings. Onlywin-Users may believe that a pure text file could only be saved with ANSI encoding. That is definitely not true. There are a lot of encodings, though ANSI was the most common in winworld for a long time and UTF-8 is also very common now on many Operating-Systems.
For our "endeavour" only ANSI-encoding will work. (At least it worked for me)

Fourth:
According to all I heard the files main name(in my case: "00077680") is given by the model number of the camera. Then there is a special suffix that could depend very much on the firmware version you have on your camera.
How to get to know that number:
Go download the latest frmcrypt.exe with the link on Welcome to Pentax Hack, download the firmware corresponding to the one that is installed on your camera from ricoh-imaging.
extract that firmware on to your hdd.
put the *.bin file (the firmware binary) into the same folder where your frmcrypt.exe sits.
Then go and run "cmd.exe" by hitting "WIN+R" and then type in "cmd.exe"
dir to the folder and then run:
frmcrypt.exe *.bin *.out
where "*.bin" has to be replaced by the filename of your firmware binary and "*.out" should be named to your liking.
Then you go and open that "*.out" file with notepad or some other text-editor.
hit ctrl+f.
then you type in "%03d". Hit ENTER.
the editor should highlight the string we have searched for. one or two words right to "%03d" you should find something like "C:\KB536.BIN" that is what we are searching for.
The 3 digits 536(in my case, with firmware 1.06) is what the suffix should be named with.

Fifth:
When you are done with that, the files "modelnr.%03d" and "DEVELOP.MOD"(which should or at least can be an empty file) should be copied to the root of the SD-Card in your Camera.

Sixth:
If you followed those steps, you should:
Turn off the Camera and turn it back on whilst pressing the MENU button(on the DSLR) AND leaving the card door open.
Do not hesitate. The screen may stay black for a short time, do not worry.
Given that you did all entries like i did(I wrote every entry to my modset in this post), you should see Development Menu1 on your screen.
there are many options. If you want to know what all that should be good for, you should read a pentax service manual. (at least for the older models you can download a file from "www.pentax-hack.info")
WARNING WARNING and another WARNING! Never do panic. Also do not do anything when you do not know what you are doing.
I also will have to read a service manual first before i can change or modify anything. there is no such thing as a neo. Everything that a human being can now, it has to learn before.
So actually there are only a few useful things that you can do with this, if you do not know how to program for microcontrollers and how to use the fujitsu IDE to develope software for cameras like this.
ONE thing that can be done is switch off SDM on lenses and force them to use the motor drive shaft instead for Autofocusing.
there are tutorials on the internet on how to do so.

one of them should be located at:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/208353-how-...m-f-2-8-a.html
another one:
How to deactivate SDM and allow for screw drive autofocus with DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 - Le site des amateurs de PENTAX

and in german:
Deaktiverung des SDM an DA* Linsen -> HOW TO - DSLR-Forum

Please mind that every different lens may(or for sure will) need a different hexadecimal modification in its rom.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another thing, that most people think is useful to them, is turning off "Dark Frame Substraction" this shortens the time the camera needs for postprocessing after taking long expoosure shots.

Maybe if we tinker a little bit, we could get better noise reduction on our cameras. But that would need much more experience and knowledge than i have at the moment.

Everything else you might like to change or tinker around leave that to the real Hackers and people with very much programming experience.

BACK TO THE MAIN PURPOSE OF ALL THIS -> down and upload lensroms.

maybe you panic and think "oh my good i am missing that menu on my camera. Oh no! All for the birds." Stay calm. i also almost lost hope. Because it may seem to you that there is only one page of options
when you switch on your camera into debug mode with the given flags in that modset file named with the number.
just go down the menu and e voila the next page of the debug menu appears. When you are on page 4 that is called "Development Menu4"
You then should see options:
LENS ROM DAT SD=>CAMERA
LENS ROM DAT CAMERA=>SD

Some more nerve saving tipps:
When you try to leave that Development Menu by pressing the MENU button, the screen stays black in first place.
Then you have to press the shutter release button halfway down.
After you have done that the camera shows a string on screen that says "DEBUG MODE".
When you see this string just press the INFO button and the normal display appears on the lcd.
It is almost as in normal mode, except when you press info a lot of times so you go and see the water level display, you can not go further. You are maybe stuck with that "DEBUG MODE" info on your screen.

in case of emergency, you always can go into the cameras normal menu where inbetween custom properties tab and the tab left to it, a test mode menu appears where you can switch off debug menu.
Very seldom, but it happens in some cases when you play with the real debug functions of the camera. The camera can get stuck awefully bad.
No turning back on, some info is steadily showing up on the monochrome lcd on top of the body.
Solution:
Do not panic. Switch off. Open the door pull out the battery. With no battery inside the camera turn the lever like you would do when switching it back on and push the shutter release button for at least 5 seconds.
Then turn the lever back into the OFF position, put back the battery in to the camera close all doors, pray to god and turn it back on.
REMBER YOU ARE DOING ALL THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK!
DO NOT BLAME ME, OTHER HACKERS OR PEOPLE WHO
PUT TUTORIALS LIKE THIS ONLINE, FOR ANY HARM THIS OR ALIKE PROCESSES DO TO YOUR PENTAX DSLR!!!!
And at DO NEVER!!! NEVER blame Pentax or Ricoh for it if you brick your Camera.

If you really bricked it, it is on your own decision to kindly ask a service partner if he could do anything for you or your camera.
he may offer you to buy it for spare parts.
Or you could send it to shodan, and be one of the first with a Custom Hack Pentax if you talk with him about it first and he agrees to sending you the camera back on your own cost.

From here on you should be cool with doing lensrom modding according to those tuts i gave you the link for in this post.

If you do not see those options in Development Menu 4 or do not know how to go on further, then please do yourself a favor and stop. just give up.
if everything goes fine, help is already on the way.
There is one person trying to deliver a complete solution for all your needs that is a kind of CHDK or Magic Lantern for Canon Cameras.
Maybe you already read his first post in this thread.
If you want to help him, try to send private messages to him. AFAIK he is in need of testers, when he is done with coding, and he would be happy if some peeps would donor him actual pentax DSLR models that maybe have some malfunctions like a destroyed display(i guess he could hook up an hdmi display for his work on the cameras) or a shutter that jams sometimes.(So that those malfunctions would not affect his work on extending firmware functions of the camera).
As i read it, he will work everything out for the K-30 in first place, and then (maybe according to what models he gets donored first) for the other Pentax DSLR's.

So i wish you much luck with whatever you trying to do with it. Go and support Shodan!
I hope i helped some people with this.

cloaking is already built into every pentax body, thanks to the massive product placement from nikon and canon. :)

What could be 'different' about Pentax FF?

I completely disagree. USE NEW HARDWARE! And go64mn!t use 2 CPU's for a higher framerate! But I really love the outside of the K-5II and think they should design the buttons and levers on the FF according to the philosophy of the K-5II and the 645Z!!! So handy! Changing the settings so lightning fast! I can not stop to repeat it. The design is nearly flawless. (Except the mode wheel that has to be unlocked by pressing the button on top of it. The K-3 is doing much better with the mode wheel. AND the Focus mode lever sits on the wrong side on the K-5II, it should point away from the display so your thumb does not have to glide over the AF button in the middle of it. Anyway it would be so much easier to handle it this way.)
AND AGAIN:!!! locking the pictures(to protect them from accidentally deletion) by pressing the AE-L(in review-mode) should be implemented. ON ANY FIRMWARE ON EVERY CAMERA!!!
So it would be easy as cake to declutter photo series!!!

Answering the question stated:

It could be a little bit bigger!
People would buy the Pentax FF even if it is 2-3 cm taller(height) and plus 2 cm wide, who exactly would care about that? Even if it comes in a format similar to Canon 1D or Nikon D4S people would run for it.

And we have an equivalent to the desired specs (when talking about Size and a FF Sensor with SR) --> sony's A900 it is app. 156,3 × 116,9 × 81,9 mm.
And yes; I could live with a Pentax FF that has the same or approximately the same measures as the A900.
In the contrary! There are people who praise the handling of the pentax, but who want to rest their little finger on the camera body but they just can't. Neither on the K-5 or on the K-30... We could even pull some Nikonian-Candidates over to the RICOH-PENTAX brand back again with that larger body and the classical KISS handling of the K-5II(Button and element aligning just make so much sense on this great camera body.)
I just imagine my K-5II with the exact same button aligning but app. 3cm bigger (width and also height) and with a FF SR sensor and i would just say WOW. I wanna have that, because it is easy to utilise. And changing settings on this premium body goes lightning fast. The only advantage on the K-3 body that i see, is that you don't have to press down a button on the mode dial.
Ah. Yes, maybe the AF switch lever (mid focus, Sel or Auto) shoud point to the right instead of pointing towards the screen. Besides those odds and ends i find the K-5(II) the more perfect design for full frame.

The handling beats Canon and Nikon DSLRs in just every way. I recently tried some of those. But every time i have Canikon in my hands, I am reminded to that catchy song "wicked, wicked wonderland..." and i think: "How the AF works is really cool, but it just looks and feels so goddamn tacky-swanky."

AND PLEASE RICOH!
Locking Pictures !!!! We really do not need an extra lock button, but you should finally implement locking the pictures in review mode when pressing the AE-L button.
Because no one needs the AE-L button in Review or Play-Mode for anything else. It should just lock the picture i am reviewing on my display when i press it instead of throwing me out of review mode or doing nothing.(on K-30 it throws you out of review mode, on K-5II it exactly does nothing when pressed while reviewing a pic.)
