Well, the solenoid issue with the k70 just caught up with me. Ugh, first the k30 and now again with the k70. Pentax, I love you but you are making it hard. If I were to try FIY I would fail terribly. Can anyone recommend somewhere to send off for repair?....or is it even worth it?

Is this sarcasm or just crazy talk?...if it seems like you're always shooting portrait then keep shooting portrait. Fantastic image!

Kerrowdown, I've really been admiring the PP of your last several pics on this thread. You're creating a beautiful, dreamy landscape out of what could easily be harsh conditions. What do you use if you don't mind...?

Yes, we have the Turkey Vultures also. Both types of vultures are abundant in the Southeastern US. The Black Vultures are a little smaller, but more aggressive and will often steal from and bully the Turkey Vulture. Oddly enough, the Black Vulture's sense of smell isn't very good and they will search for food by sight--in other words, they look for the Turkey Vultures and go to where they are and steal their carcass.

My wife and I decided to go for a drive on a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. We were down around Gee's Bend in southwest Alabama, and stumbled upon a murder of Black Vultures. A couple of them were nice enough to hang around for a pic. I liked both the color and bw edit, so I included them both.

I had forgotten about these images...taken a couple of years back on a walk through Old Alabama Town. It's a good idea to go back through your archive and look at old pics--what you thought was crap 2 years ago might look better today. K70 with 50/1.4 (a little help from nik on processing).

Sorry about the redundancy, but she had my attention... taken with k70 and kiron 105mm at Key West Cemetery (if you have been to Key West I highly suggest it...in the off season which is now).

Nice catch Norm! That is an impressive moth! I hope all is well in Algonquin. Three times as many chances and I've seen 2 over the past 5 years! I remember seeing them much more frequently as a child. Herbicides perhaps?....or maybe the lunas are hanging out wherever all of the honey bees went...?

...this is not a forest walk, nor does it show lichens, fungi, or moss. I'm not sure where these pics should lay, but this is my favorite thread so I hope you don't mind. Pics where taken on a hike (during a drive-through) in a precious valley in southeastern Utah. This place was pristine and strangely spiritual. There were no people around (I think we saw 2 cars on a 17 mile drive through the valley). The isolation was immense. Simply a special place.

Here's a few pics from my recent vacation in and around southeastern Utah and northern Arizona. Unbelievable scenery out there. We tried to stay off the beaten path as much as possible, and the extra driving was worth it once we found places like Potash Road, Moki Dugway, and Valley of the Gods. We still hit the popular places like Arches NP and Monument Valley --they're pretty impressive too, but lord have mercy there were a lot of folks in those parks. Pics were taken with sigma 18-250 macro or 15 mm ltd.

My recent vacation brought me through southeastern Utah. My mind was blown many times. The landscapes were uncanny. I was lucky enough to catch a couple lesser known highways and dirt roads, which led me to isolated, raw, and gorgeous lands. I hope to return to southeastern UT as soon as possible (maybe some camping in the Valley of the Gods). The attached pics were both from Arches NP, and were shot under a harsh noon-time sun. K70 with sigma 18-250.
