My DA 18-135 virtually never leaves my K-5ii. It's the perfect travel lens, small and silent. I can get a relatively wide angle shot and also pull in distant objects when needed. I have used it previously on a K-7 taking night time shots with not much available light with very pleasing results. Just my 5 cents worth.

That's my combination and it takes excellent pictures when used correctly (in other words, get to know your camera). The 18-135mm hardly ever comes off my camera. It's a fantastic all purpose lens which I use for shooting portraits to scenery and everything in between.

Hi Greenneck, I've had the same lens as you for ages now. It came in the retail box but as someone else pointed out there isn't a pouch included. Don't panic about it being "clearly cracked" or "damaged". I'm now looking at my lens with the hood attached in its reverse storage position as yours obviously is in your photo and I that's what they look like. No damage, just the shape of the hood where it clicks onto the lens. Enjoy your lens, they are a great all round travel lens.

My K-7 was my introduction to Pentax and I was very happy with it. I have since upgraded to a K-5ii but my wife still uses the K-7 quite regularly. As mentioned by the others low light performance wasn't it's strong point but it still did quite a good job at it when needed. Here is an example taken in a dark back lane in Surabaya Indonesia with a PENTAX-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 lens at ISO 3200, 40mm focal length.

Unfortunately we live in an age of instant gratification. What is great and the best and a must have is old hat a short time later. This is seen with mobile phones, cars, computers and cameras to name a few. A lot of companies in a never ending scramble to have the "latest" and most popular product get sucked into this cycle of continuous very short term new model releases. In the end they are just seen as trying too hard and not taken seriously. I would love to see a return to proper R&D and quality thought out products hitting the market. In reality I don't see this occurring. It's just my opinion but I feel that Pentax did achieve this with K7, K5 to K5ii progression of models. Keeping what's good and adding to it over time.

I used a program called PhotoFiltre to join two separate signature tag images and save as one image. Any photo manipulation program would do the same trick.

I have used the DA18-135WR on my K7 for the last 2 years and love it. It's now on my new K5ii and still impressing me. A slightly wider aperture would be nice but then it would make for a bigger lens and wouldn't be so versatile. To be honest it hardly ever leaves my camera, I'm not a pro photographer or a pixel peeper. I just love the fact that it's a great all round lens, quiet and fast AF and when it gets a bit (or a lot) wet I don't have to pack up my gear.

Thanks everyone for your welcomes. I've no plans of Pentax Forum or world domination, so I'm just happy to be part of this forum...
Hi Jean, I have already posted a few pictures under on the "DA 18-135 WR, Show us what it can do" thread.
I hope to contribute some more.

I wouldn't believe everything you hear. Especially hearsay. Nothing is guaranteed in life, only death and taxes so stick with what you like and feel comfortable with.

Just a few shots from K7 with my favourite lens the 18-135 WR. I'll post some more when I have a chance to use my K5ii.

Hi, I'm Martin from Melbourne Australia. I've been taking photos for over 30 years. Originally developing my own B/W 35mm taken with my old Zenit-TTL and Helios 44mm lens at High school. Two years ago bought a Pentax K-7 with a 18-135mm WR lens. It has served me well but I have just bought a K-5ii body as I like to take a lot of low light night shots when traveling overseas and pictures of my boy's school productions.
Regards
Martin
