I am far less likely to ever buy another Pentax camera after reading this thread. What you went through is terrible. Companies that won't honor their warranties BASED ON THEIR OWN MARKETING should be panned. Fortunately, nowadays, most things bought with a credit card have extra protection. A *weatherproof* camera that fails in the light rain or snow... that's got to be a first. And here I have pics of my K-70 all covered in snow, thinking, wow, it's great to have purchased a weatherproof camera. Silly me.
Let this be a lesson to everyone. You might *feel* that Pentax is a kinder, softer, gentler camera company, more friendly that the big dogs out there. But they aren't. They're just as greedy as the next.

I have read on another thread that Pentax "weather resistance" seems to be assumed by Pentax to mean darn near water resistant. But if the weather sealing fails, they won't repair it under warranty because water damage is not covered. Even if it's the camera or lenses fault. As such I've come to feel Pentax weather resistance is only good, valid, if it helps your gear survive a bout in inclement weather. If the sealing fails, Pentax bails.

I bought one for my daughter's camcorder, which, as expected, she broke. They sent us a check for the replacement cost.

I like the lizard one especially! ---------- Post added 07-29-18 at 11:20 AM ---------- Can't believe I've never posted to this thread. My K-70 is my primary boating camera.

Premium only means status symbol to me. Not interested. Hence, I own no Leica nor Hasselblad gear. Money to burn indeed!

I would expect no less from a $1200 50mm lens. In fact, I'd expect it to make me breakfast. In bed. And nothing instant. Fresh hot waffles and thick-cut bacon and fresh-squeezed orange juice. And real maple syrup and butter.
Honestly. This lens is for rich people. There isn't any level of work that this lens would be a requirement for. Pick up an older 50mm 1.4 and get 90% of the result for 1/10 the cost. As the article states, this is a lens for people with money to burn. Or looking to impress their friends.
That said, the results are stunning. But not stunning enough to justify the cost.

Some very nice images in this thread. I think the K-S1 has one of the nicest sensors ever made. It's particularly nice with skin tones. ---------- Post added 07-29-18 at 11:46 AM ---------- Of course, skin tones aren't all it does well. :)

I seem to be in the minority, but definitely two zooms. A short zoom and a long zoom.

Just curious, why is this limited to digital cameras? Are we *that* anti-film here?

I have no problem with Pentax saying there was water damage if they didn't market their cameras with photos showing them covered in water drops. I take the OP at his word. If he is describing things honestly and accurately then this should have been repaired under warranty.

See, that's the hook. We'll give you free paper when you buy ink - yet the ink you just bought is nowhere near enough to print even half the 'free' paper. So you buys more inks, you gets more paper. Eventually you have four THOUSAND sheets of paper, no ink, and your dog is starving.

I got into the K-S1 when Samys had their fire sale a couple years ago. $200 with the kits lens. A no-brainer. I have since paired it with the Pentax 18-250 and an EyeFi card and it's my go-to camera for anything at home. That 20mp sensor has some sweet color rendition. Here's a recent capture, my daughter goofing off at my son's 11th birthday.
