Premium only means status symbol to me. Not interested. Hence, I own no Leica nor Hasselblad gear. Money to burn indeed!

I would expect no less from a $1200 50mm lens. In fact, I'd expect it to make me breakfast. In bed. And nothing instant. Fresh hot waffles and thick-cut bacon and fresh-squeezed orange juice. And real maple syrup and butter.
Honestly. This lens is for rich people. There isn't any level of work that this lens would be a requirement for. Pick up an older 50mm 1.4 and get 90% of the result for 1/10 the cost. As the article states, this is a lens for people with money to burn. Or looking to impress their friends.
That said, the results are stunning. But not stunning enough to justify the cost.

My boating kit is primarily the K-70, 18-135 and 55-300, but I also keep the 40mm in a side pocket. It gets little use but can be handy.

Just a plug for Samys. I jumped at their K-S1 fire sale a couple years ago and everything went smoothly. I may be biased by the camera's price-output ratio, since it takes amazing shots and what, $200 for body and lens? Yes please. We always think of Amazon and the big 2 NYC stores first, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Samys again.
And at that price, the K-1 is pretty darn near the $1300 mark I said I'd buy it at. Buy one! Stop this price freefall! I don't have $1300 even!

I have read on another thread that Pentax "weather resistance" seems to be assumed by Pentax to mean darn near water resistant. But if the weather sealing fails, they won't repair it under warranty because water damage is not covered. Even if it's the camera or lenses fault. As such I've come to feel Pentax weather resistance is only good, valid, if it helps your gear survive a bout in inclement weather. If the sealing fails, Pentax bails.

Probably the Pentax 300mm F/4 SMC DA* ED IF SDM, if I could convince myself that it takes better pictures than the 55-300. Tough call at f8.

Some very nice images in this thread. I think the K-S1 has one of the nicest sensors ever made. It's particularly nice with skin tones. ---------- Post added 07-29-18 at 11:46 AM ---------- Of course, skin tones aren't all it does well. :)

I seem to be in the minority, but definitely two zooms. A short zoom and a long zoom.
