Numbering seems to be working properly, I just downloaded 400 pictures through lightroom, reformatted my SD card and took few more pictures, numbering follows normally, no dupes.

Ricoh GR II WiFi Frustration

As detailed above, the Wifi option on the new GR remains un-useable and useless. Monochrome in an earlier reply seems to think I am using hyperbole, however I am just trying to use a tool as it was intended, and as such Ricoh failed. The fact that one has to revert to Eye-Fi for Wifi transfer and shell an extra $80-100 to achieve a modicum of wifi functionality is a shame. Yes I agree that the GR is a pocketable camera that appeals to more advanced photographers, but this fact should not take away from the fact that yes, you may want to use it also to post to social media. Even the more seasoned photographers among us might want to take pictures and post them to Instagram, and as such this camera falls short of expectations. The camera itself is fantastic, I took it on a 3 week long vacation and took thousands of pictures, I was not disappointed. The focus did miss few times, and I had a few glitches were after pressing the power button to start the camera, the splash screen appeared and the camera turned off again. Other then that, I would say the camera performed flawlessly. I tried to re-use the WiFi function, but gave up on it. Again, the IOS app is useless, you have to first transfer to the app then from the app to you camera roll, and you still can not use the app to remote shoot. The cached remote shoot app is a crap shoot, pun intended, if you do not have an internet connection, do not expect the web-app to work, even the cached one. The Android app performs slightly better, now that you can find your pictures after the update, still no remote shoot on the app and very clunky environment. So yes, great camera with flawed WiFi. If Ricoh doesn't plan on fixing the WiFi issues, then stick with the original GR and save yourself $100 to purchase an EyeFi card. I hope that someone at Ricoh is listening or reading these posts, if so, please on over to the Fuji remote app and check it out, you will know what I'm talking about.

Nice review, however it's clear that the reviewer did not use the WiFi feature. And in my opinion that is the major deferentiating feature from the original GR. We already knew that the GR is a great camera, its just that it would have been nice if they tried the WiFi features and commented on those features.

So I've been using the camera for about 10 days, and I have to say, it's a great camera, same as with the GR (which I have as well), but seems faster and more responsive. Higher frame rate and faster processing as well as better battery , at least it feels like it to me. It is a shame that the wifi sill sucks, I was on a week trip to NYC, had to buy me an EyeFi card for that. It seems that Ricoh will listen, from past experience, and that they will fix the software end of it. I am ready to head to Europe and the Middle East, and I will be bringing that little gem along, I will post some more when I am back.

Correct, I see that feature but same in your screen capture saving to the phone is not an option. You either have FB, delete or transfer which is greyed out, the phone or tablet icon that shows up on the ios app is not available. I just stopped by BH Photo in NYC and bought an EyeFi mobi card and I'm downloading without frustration

Thanks for pitching in, it is a big deal for me because I'm used to transfer some pics to share with friends and social media, and I can not do that on Android, and on ios it takes such an effort that it is not even worth it, if you install WiFi on a camera and bill it as an update, then you should take the time to develop something usable, their apps are useless at best and 10 years behind the time, its kin to buying a luxury car where the you have to manually crank the windows open, and half the windows don't work. As far as the remote control solution it is anemic. Don't get me wrong, I love the camera , that's the third Ricoh I own, I'm just disappointed that they did not live up to their standards

Sure,
Like any other WiFi enabled cameras you start WiFi and switch your phone to the same network and start the app, so far so good. Most other cameras allow you to select pictures on the camera to send to the device, Ricoh doesn't. The camera is unaware that it is connected to a phone or device. Fine so you have to select the pictures on the phone, no prob. Well there is no way to select all, kr select only JPGs or a certain range, you have to manually select the pictures you want to download, however you can not see the format of the picture you are selecting, and you can not opt to download a smaller file of the photo, say something to use in social media. If you want to see the format of the file, whether dng or jpg, you'll have to click on the file, once you do that you lose all your selection, and you start all over again.
Once you successfully downloaded the pictures, they download to the app, on the Android there's no way to get the pictures to use them, they reside in the app, I think you can share them on FB, but they do not show up in your photos, can't email edit or txt them, Nada. On the ios platform, you have to reselect whatever pics you want and transfer them a second time to the photo app.
If that's not enough the remote shoot on the app is disabled, if you want to remote shoot and control the camera, a person should download a web app, you can cash the app for later use, but if you don't have the app on your phone, good luck with that, you'll have to go back to the user manual figure out the link for the web app and download it. Most other cameras that use a webserver , the webserver resides on the camera, so when you connect to the camera's IP address the webserver fires up on your browser and you are good to go. Downloading pictures with the web app is a another painful experience, you download the picture to your browser and then you right click to save, no batch or modified download. It is such a shame because the GR is such a great camera but obviously Ricoh didn't spend the time or energy at developing the WiFi solution. I hope someone from Ricoh is reading this, they need to fix that issue quickly or there's no reason to buy the II over the original

I have been using the GRII for few days now, and I'm ready to send it back to BHPhoto, since the WiFi feature is completely unusable, it is an excersise in frustration to use even try and use that feature. Is anyone else in the same boat?
I bought the GRII especially because of the WiFi, I still have the GR. And I can't believe how flawed the WiFi software is on the II. Whatva shame!

Kenspo,
Thanks. I finally found out the section on the remote application. In my opinion the wireless solution that Ricoh uses is too convoluted and complicated. Since wifi is the only reason anyone would upgrade to the GRII from the GR, Wifi should be implemented in a flawless user friendly way. They need to update the apps so one can easily view and download images as well as shoot remotely. All other vendors who use a web server for remote shoot, have the web server embedded in the camera, so you can connect through wifi and then use the web server, the way Ricoh has it, you have to go online, get the app started, switch to the camera LAN and start using a fairly clunky app. I truly think they should revamp their app and wifi implantation from scratch, that can be easily done through a firmware upgrade. Thanks,

Hi all,
I just received the GRII, and I'm a little frustrated. I had the GR and loved it, was looking forward the GRII for wireless features. That said, that turned out to be fairly frustrating. I downloaded both Android and iOS apps, neither is a smooth app, I figured I will have to get used to them, but then to my surprise the remote shoot feature in the app is disabled, that said you can not use remote shoot with the app, I looked on some of the early previews and they mention a web browser capability, there's however no mention of it in the user manual, or online, I have no idea how to use the wireless feature in this new camera, and given that this is precisely the new feature that is being marketed, I find that lacking. Anyone any idea or help?
thanks
