Does anyone have a contact for a Pentax professional services rep? I've tried going through traditional channels and not had any luck getting anyone to return my emails.

Thanks,

LL 645Z First Impressions Review

The LL review is a joke but I expected it to be. The site is supported by ads from Phase One and resellers like Capture Integration who are in the business of selling high-dollar gear with value-added back-end support programs. They would never compare an H5D or Phase camera to an A7r or a Nikon D800 and talk about how close in image quality they are. IMO the emperor has no clothes over there and not comparing the Z to the H5D or the IQ 180 just proves it.

645D shutter speed weirdness

Custom function 29 turns off the green button. I was inadvertently hitting the green button while dialing the shutter speed dial and that was creating the "jumpy" speeds. Turned it off and no problems.

Thanks,

Bob

I bet that's exactly what I'm doing. I had no idea the green button did that. Any way to turn that "feature" off?

645D shutter speed weirdness

I've been shooting with my 645D for about a month now and love the camera. I looked for every reason I could find to send it back but I'm blown away at how amazing a camera it is for the money. But there's one strange thing that the camera does every so often that makes me think there's something wrong with it. When changing the shutter speed, the camera will cycle through 4 stops and then loop back through the same 4 stops. For instance, if I'm at 1/15 and want to go to 1/125 I'll roll the dial and it will cycle through to 1/125 and then back to 1/15 while turning the wheel the same direction. I'm thinking this is some sort of "feature, not a bug" thing but I'm at a loss of why it does this. If I continue to roll the wheel in the same direction it will cycle through the shutter speeds again and then act normally.

Anyone else see this when using their 645D?

Thanks,

Bob

So what are my options for a flash that will shoot faster than 1/180?

Question on the Aokatec triggers - is it possible to set up the transmitter with a Pentax strobe like the AF 540 (on camera) to trigger HSS to just trigger an external strobe pack? I'm trying to cheat the X-Sync of a 645Ds 1/125 to trigger a studio strobe outdoors?

Is there a way to sync over 1/125?

Wombat - I've been doing this a long time and I've been down that road with optical triggers and they might work but not consistently. I'm shooting in situations with athletes where I get 20 min's to make an image for a magazine or a commercial client. The stakes are very high and unfortunately optical has let me down too many times. I simply need a trigger like my Pocketwizard MiniTT1 for my Canon that essentially tells the camera it's a flash capable of HSS and then it overrides the camera's non-HSS flash sync.

Unfortunately this won't work for the work I do. I'm trying to sync at a high shutter speed to capture action and I'm typically doing this in bright sunshine. Optical slaves don't typically work well in bright light.

I'm wondering if there's a way to hack the firmware to add a 1/250th to the X-sync setting.

Adapting Mamiya LS lenses to Pentax

Thanks Ed. I'm trying to find an LS lens for my 645D that is wider than a 75mm. The only downside I've found with my 645D is the 1/125th flash sync and the LS lenses overcome that.

Thanks for the answers. I'm trying to adapt a wider Mamiya LS lens to a Pentax 645D. Anyone had any luck adapting the new Mamiya/ Phase/ Schneider LS lenses to the Pentax 645D? The 55 LS 2.8 would be incredible on the 645D.

Has anyone figured out a way to "trick" a 645D to fire a studio strobe over 1/125th without using a LS lens? I own the 75mm LS but I need something wider and I don't mind losing a little bit of my frame if I shoot at 1/200th or higher since the files are so large.

TIA

Does anyone have any experience adapting any of the older or newer Mamiya LS lenses to work with a 645D? I'm particularly interested in adapting the Mamiya 55 LS to Pentax to be able to sync at 1/500th.
