Took this a few weeks ago on a hike as the seasons started to change to fall and winter simultaneously.

Caught this scene during a hike a few weeks ago. I'm glad I stopped and changed to the telephoto instead of being lazy.

I recently started doing more diy lens repair/cleaning and I've really enjoyed it. I got some lenses from a user here on the marketplace and I'm wondering where I could find some more. I live in a rural area, so not much in the local Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. Are there any websites to look besides eBay?

Yes, I've been looking through that thread and have been impressed with the quality of the photos. I've also looked through the da 16-85mm thread.

Yes, I've avoided shooting in foul weather with my k10d since I don't currently own a WR lens and I plan to continue to avoid the foul weather. I was just looking at the DA 18-135mm and it is definitely attractive since I would love to take my camera backpacking and backcountry skiing in the future.

Yep, I'm ok with that. I have a DA 16-45 f/4 already, so I'm covered for wide angle for now. I will probably try to find a faster wide prime or zoom in the future.

Thanks for all the recommendations in this thread everyone, I really do appreciate it. I found a good deal on a used K-3 with two DA primes and an older Tamron zoom. I am happy I decided to stretch my budget a little bit and I'm very excited to get back into taking photos after it arrives.

I'm very thankful for all the advice in this thread - I remember doing a ton of research here when I first got my k10d as well. What do you mean with the "total investment" statement?

Thanks for the insight, I don't plan on immediately jumping into astro, since I don't really have a suitable lens yet. I am mostly interested in more of the landscape astro/milky way style at this point.

I don't really see myself dropping cash on the newest lens tech honestly.

I'd like to keep it under $300 for a new camera body, but that could be stretched a little bit.

I am definitely interested in astro tracer, and I know that the O-GPS1 can be hard to come by. Good to know that a newer version is planned. Hopefully it will work with the K-5 bodies. I've been really impressed looking at test photos for pixel shift, but you're right, it would have to be perfect conditions. ---------- Post added 09-02-2021 at 07:21 PM ----------
Thanks for the reminder about the shutter count, I do remember that the K-3 had an increased rating.
I got into photography during college, so I really didn't have the money to invest on higher quality lenses. I mostly used the DA 16-45mm f4, which I plan on keeping. I also have a few manual lenses from the 70s and would like to get into repairing/cleaning older lenses as I enjoy tinkering. I would also love to invest in some higher quality modern lenses.

The point about the file size is appreciated. I do like to shoot in RAW and hadn't considered the larger size for the K-3. Good to keep in mind, thanks. ---------- Post added 09-02-2021 at 07:01 PM ----------
I don't think I would necessarily need the extra MP on the K-3 as I have never really made prints larger than 11x14 with my K10d. How large can the K-5 reasonably go for something to hang on the wall?
The main lens I use with my K10d is the DA 16-45mm F4. "Poor" might be a harsh word, maybe just inaccurate especially in lower light situations.
I definitely plan to keep the K10d, maybe even considering an IR conversion at some point. ---------- Post added 09-02-2021 at 07:09 PM ----------
Yes, I've read a bit about people's thoughts on the CCD vs CMOS debate after getting back on these forums a few days ago after many years away. I have always been pleased with the colors of my K10d, especially in brighter conditions.
Thank you for pointing out the camera comparison tool, that will be useful for me to understand the developments over the past 10 years haha.
I'm not really into shooting action or birding, I mostly do mountain landscapes nowadays. I am very intrigued by astro photography, I just never gave it a chance on my K10d. I have done street photography in the past, but I've since moved to the mountains away from the city. I don't really see a need for a camera that is more "pocketable" for me. Who knows though, my photographic interests may change after an upgrade :)

Yea, I'm sure I'll be blown away with everything newer. It seems like the K-5 is the most commonly listed camera on used sites/ebay/etc though unfortunately. I've read a little bit about the teething pains. I'd really love to find a reasonably priced K-3 ii but I haven't thus far. I'll have to keep my eye out. Thanks

I am looking for some advice as to what camera would be a worthy upgrade to my current k10d. I recently picked it back up again after 3 years of using my phone camera and it has rekindled my interest in shooting with a dslr. I haven't really kept current with the various Pentax cameras that have come out since 2008, but I've started to do some research into what I might want to upgrade to. It seems as though going for something between the K-5 and K-3 ii would be a reasonable path for me.
My main complaints with the k10d have been the poor low iso and autofocus performance. I know anything newer will be far better, but are there any strong arguments for the K-5, K-5ii, K-5iis, K-3, or K-3 ii over one or the other? I am drawn to the K-3 ii due to the astro tracer feature and the pixel shift but the current prices on used K-3 bodies seem to be a bit over my price range. I'd like to keep my budget to around $300 for an upgraded body. I have seen a number of K-5 bodies going for around $220 but am hesitant to go with something with the age of the K-5.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me? Is it even worth considering mirrorless if I really enjoy the tactile-ness of using my k10d?
