Hello everyone!

After a lot of searching through the forms and help from dflorez, UncleVanya, and whoever made the dropbox link I was able to convert my lens. I had a hard time understanding the process, but I finally figured it out. I decided something this complicated needs a video. In this video I converted the 50-135mm lens, but I understand the process is the same for the 16-50, 60-250, 200, and 300mm lenses. I hope this is helpful to you and Good Luck!

The video is here:

You Tube

Below you will see the process I followed. Again, I have the forums here to thank for giving me this information. I hope it helps you.

Too Much for you? Go here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/24-photographic-equipment-sale/311609-sal...ersions-3.html

Lens Hack Directions: How to deactivate SDM and allow for screw drive autofocus with DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 - Le site des amateurs de PENTAX
Pktether: Since the site is down due to malware, here is a link to the most recent version on my Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2uv9RXId6z4eUE2OTZmVTMybFk
If the site ever gets fixed... you can go here. BUT DON'T right now (05/24/16) PK_Tether – Tethering Software for Pentax DSLR Cameras

3.) Download Notepad++
4.) Open Pktether
5.) Place SD card into camera, connect camera to computer (USB cable)
6.) Turn on Camera In PKtether activate DEBUG MODE
7.) Copy Hack Files to SD card
8.) Disconnect camera from USB cable
9.) Power Down Camera, Power back on
You are in Development Menu
10.) Scroll down to "Lens Rom Camera=SD" and hit OK. (it should go black, and then you will see the same screen again)
11.) Power off camera, Move SD card to PC and open it
12.) You are looking for the LENSEEP.LNS file. MAKE A BACKUP of this file - THIS IS LENS COPY SPECIFIC - ONLY YOUR FILE WORKS WITH YOUR LENS!
13.) Open LENSEEP.LNS with Notepad++
14.) Replace ALL instances of "C0" in column "03" with "80". DO NOT REPLACE any instances of "C0" outside of column "03".
15.) Move the new LENSEEP.LNS file to your SD card (replacing the orginal, remember to back up the orginal)
16.) Power Camera on
17.) Scroll to "LENS ROM DAT SD= CAMERA" and hit OK ( you will see "Wait..." and then some text)
NOTE: It failed the first time for me, needed to do it twice
18.) When Complete, lens should be in screw Drive
19.) Disable Debug Mode
A.) Use camera settings Menue Button Scroll left until you see "Test Mode" Disable Debug Mode Hit OK
B.) Connect to PKtether, Click Debug Mode Off

Pentax DA* 16-50 and DA*50-135mm Autofocus Problems

I had a similar issue with mine and it gave me quite a scare on a shoot. I manually rotated the focusing ring several rotations to the right, then several rotations to the left. I repeated this while trying to get the camera to auto focus. After only about a min, it came back to life...

As others have said before it suffers from 3 main issues.

1. Stuck clutch >> Fix by moving focus ring back and forth several times
2. Capacitor decharged >> Fix by leaving attached to dslr to recharge capacitor
3. Failed motor >> Send to Ricoh and spend some cash

If you have issues with #3. I suggest you convert to Screw drive and just enjoy it. If you truly need the motors fixed, just save your money and get the new 24-70 f2.8 in the future.

Thank you!

Gotta hand it to Pentax Limited Glass here. I don't push the sliders that much in post. I normally push the white slider up, black slider down, and play with exposure and shadows, and finally +1 to +5 in color vibrance.

The photo with my wife and baby, I did adjust the hue of green because it had a little bit of a distracting yellow tone.

Is the new DA 20-40mm a worthy alternative to the DA 21 and DA 40 ltd?

Purchase this lens with your heart, not your head. This is a love affair lens. I own it, and the DA* 16-50. The 16-50 is wonderful and doesn't stop down. But guess what... Magic happens with the 20-40. It is a joy to take around, and the colors... oh the colors...

Look, it isn't practical except that it does offer some nice WR. The motor is silent, and the colors are wonderful. Just use it for what it is and enjoy.

I would look at it like this... If you plan to stay with APS-C, might as well enjoy one of the best lenses for the system. Also, you wont get this experience with any other camera system.

One more thing... Because the lens doesn't need to zoom much, you get AMAZING quality. Seriously, just look at the photos people get and make you own mind up.

And on the baby note... My child is only 11mo old, and I don't rock primes at the moment. Zooms are the only way to go in my opinion.

I took these with the DA* 50-135mm. It would have been handy to have the 60-250mm, but I guess I'll have to ask Santa for that lens.

I love that about this lens. If you need to capture something quick that you wouldn't want fishy, you can snap to 17mm and save the day. I doubt there are many other lenses that have this feature.

I would go to Bulb mode, cycle through your available apertures and press and hold the shutter button. Be sure to look at the front of the lens to see the blades are stopped down. Pentax cameras use a lever to stop down the lens, this is a good test to make sure it can activate the lens lever.

K-5, K-5ii, K-5iis, K-3, K-3ii

You need a tough camera that can keep up with you. I think the K-5 and K-3 line will do nicely. And, you can buy one used with warranty these days, so that should help you feel more comfortable about knocking it around. Your 16-45 has a lot of love out there and I wouldn't try to talk you out of it. If you do find your self with some money after while, consider looking for a WR lens. The 18-55 WR is still a good lens, but I would steer you towards a 16-50, 20-40, or 16-85. Those lenses are fantastic and will give you an extra edge on your newer camera body.

Remember, on Pentax, we have an AF switch on the body, AND The Sigma / DA* lenses also have an AF switch on the lens.

If you are not getting lens motor movement at all, verify the switches are ON.

I can see you purchased several lenses trying to address your various concerns. I had the same problem... And there is a reason there are so many offerings in this class of lens. Many people have their own personal needs, and these lenses try to address those.

In the end, you need to decide what is best for your shooting style.

For me, I like zooms so I use the 16-50, and the 10-17 Fisheye. I do have a 15mm limited for "non distorted" images. I made a personal decision a while back to buy only Pentax branded gear. I like the colors way more than the Sigma/Tamron lenses. Don't get me wrong, they look good, but I really like what I see in the Pentax glass.

I really liked the styling of the K-30. I can't say I like the K-s2 / K-70 as much. This camera with the 18-135 always looked really nice to me.

Right, IQ of the K-5 series is great and the camera is affordable. I can safely say glass is way more important than the camera these days. I would take my money and get lenses now, and buy a different camera when the technology gets better. The KP is great, but I am more excited about what is to come.

The newer lenses will have PLM tech, which is important if you want to stay current. But, if you plan on using this a bridge to a different camera in the future, go for it. I love my K-5iis, I only wish I could use the new 55-300 WR :(.

I think it gets negative reviews since other manufacturers have set the bar high. Pentax video looks good, but I think in the end the pros want to push the files a certain direction. I think the file type, bit rate, and color profiles turn the "Pros" away and then they turn their nose up at this camera.

I personally don't push my video files that much in post, so the video is up to my standards and does fine for what I do.
