Is there a difference in terms of results between using a hardware grad nd filter (such as Cokin drop in filters) and fixing the RAW files in Photoshop? If there aren't significantly better quality results using an actual filter, then there's no need to spend the money buying the hardware, which is pricy here in Canada. Thanks

This problem started a couple days ago when I wanted to take some pics after not having used the camera in awhile. If I fully depress the shutter release button, an image would be captured on the memory card as usual. However, if I half depress it, the shutter would fire but no image was captured. If I pressed any other button, such as menu, or playback, or Fn or any button at all (even turning the power switch to switch it off), the shutter would operate yet no images were captured on the card. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

Here are a couple of sample shots of what I'm referring to. In the 1st shot you can see 3 spots below the subject and in the middle of the pic. In the 2nd shot, you can see 3 spots in the top left of the pic. I was using a K10d and Tamron 28-300mm at 300mm. The spots in both pics are magnified because I cropped the pics to reduce file size for upload but they are readily noticible in the original also. I'm hoping its not the sensor. Any thoughts? Thanks
