Hmm. I haven't used my 100 for a while. Have you tried the 100 with the 1.4x rear converter?

Yes. I haven't tried it, but judging by your amazing work, monochrome sensors are the way to go. What was lacking in the postprocessing of colour images?

Interesting idea. Is a conversion better than a simulation?

Thanks Scorpio. I have heard good things about this product. It costs about $60 in Canada.

Thanks Peter,
I know you are right. These days products are within easy reach, even if one lives in a small place like I do. Can you recommend something that you have tried?

How about your sensor? Do you recommend using 99% isopropyl alcohol or 99.9% methyl hydrate? I have a lot of dust on my sensor and can't remove it with air.

I have checked out some older forums on this topic and came across this assertion from niceshot: Just so everybody knows ,I used 91 percent isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip and then used five more to remove the evaporation marks and I swear it improved the image and the noise performance . So please don't be afraid , scrub the baby . BUT use the damn blower First. These sensors are more resilient than you think. Believe me I scrubbed the daylights out of it. Oh and whilist I was in the cleaning mode I removed my focus screen and clean it with soap and water , so I HAVE A SPARKLING clean Focus screen to look through.

I have a bottle of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and a bottle of 99.9% Methyl Hydrate. Do I dare to use either of these on my K3 sensor?

Bothered by a couple of dust specks inside of my K3, I elected to clean the camera with a fairly powerful dust blower. I am bewildered by the resulting mess left behind. No amount of blowing will clean it up. So now I am ready to wet clean. Niceshot's recommendation goes against most of what I have read, but it makes sense. I have a bottle of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and a bottle of 99.9% Methyl Hydrate. Which of these (IF EITHER) should I use on my K3 sensor?

On occasion, I like to use the 1.4 rear converter with the 150-450. Do you have any recommendations about harmonizing specific settings on the K3 III?

It must be amazing to watch her dance!
This question is probably off topic, but her movements must raise a lot of dust and her costumes probably lose fibers. How do you keep you lens from attracting the airborne dirt?

I will try this setting. How do you adjust all three? I usually adjust the time and aperture and allow the iso to set itself.

Thank you. If I send the camera away, it will be a last resort. I found the Pentax O-ICK1 gel tip device at Amazon.ca for about 60 Can $. I have never tried wet cleaning. Not sure if I want another blower!
Many years ago, I bought a product called VDust Plus. Never tried it, but I still have three swabs. The liquid, however, has long since evaporated. What constitutes the wetness in the "wet clean" process? Would distilled water work? Is the swab in the photo safe to use?
One more thing: are there two sensors in the K3? I can see one at the rear, but there is also a lens-like item recessed in the base. What is this for and should I clean it?
Cheers,
Loyd

The 150-450 is a cumbersome beast when trying to move stealthily through the forest. It also frightens the birds. The 55-300 PLM is a good companion in the bush. I have yet to try it with water fowl. The 150-450 has also failed me when birds of prey are in flight. Not sure if the 55-300 will be much better. Perhaps Squideyes can advise me regarding the 150-450. His shots of the Osprey in flight over the water are very good. I am trying to capture a short eared owl hunting my fields during the early evening.

Hi Des,
I recently purchased a 55-300. It is quickly replacing the 150-450 as my lens of choice for birds. Can you offer any tips?

I do believe this Osprey blames you for a lost meal! Your last shot says it all:)
It couldn't have been easy getting those shots with the 150-450. Any tips for the frustrated?
