New firmware 2.42

Hi Everyone,

I just updated my firmware to the new 2.42 version.

When I turn the camera off, the number 777 appears where the iso is usually shown.

It is fairly brief, maybe 1 second.

I never noticed this before, is this normal ?

I did a bit of research but found nothing.

Thanks
Gary

What is a photograph?

To me, a photograph is an image of a specific moment in time, with an eternity behind it and an eternity after it.

That specific moment is what the photographer saw, from his(her) point of view.

Ok.... there are multiple exposures and long exposures and other considerations. However, it still remains a "moment" in the past and endless time.

Just my 2 cents :)

K3iii v K1ii

I have the K3ii and the K1ii. Until a about 6 months ago, I used my K3ii a lot for bird photos. Since I decided to leave it at home and use the K1ii exclusively, I found that my amount of keepers has increased and my shots much better. The only drawback I have is the number of shots per second. But then, I did not use that very much anyways. Also, the kit lens that comes with the K1ii is pretty good as a walk-around. I have a 100mm FF macro, 50mm 1.4 (1992 version), and the 300mm f4 is great on the K1ii. Ok.... maybe dark in the corners but I always have to do a lot f cropping anyways !

It would be nice of you could borrow/rent one to try it out.

Also, there are numerous videos on youtube of people trying out the K1ii, K3ii and K3iii and comparing them..... It is worthwhile to check them out !

K1 LCD not turning on

I only use pentax batteries.

What I did notice, when I put it back on the charger, it took 3-4 hours re recharge.

Usually my 2-3 hours walk in the park usually requires less than 1 hour.

Battery is dated 2018..... fairly new.

But I will take note of the batteries ( I have 4 pentax batteries). Maybe 1 of them is going kaput on me.

Upgrade from K-1/K-1 II to K-1 III - Any Takers?

It depends on what the new K1iii would have.

Other than bigger buffer and more "clicks per second", I do not see what I would need.

Maybe 48mp sensor size.

What would be nice is purchasable options, like video, 4k video or whatever.

Dust alert, like on the K3, would be a nice and easy addition.

But like the Billy Joel song goes..... "I love it just the way it is"

Dust Alert !

Hi,
Thanks everyone.

I raised the mirror and was able to see the small speck of white "something".

I used an air blower and genlty blew it away.

I am somewhat deceived that the K1 does not have the alert function like the K3 has.

Dust Alert !

Hi everyone !
in the past few days, with my K1 , I started noticing a small "speck", always in the same place. Very visible with blue skies.

On my K3, I had a dust alert function. I do not have that on the K1.

I tried the dust removal function, but it did not work ( K1 is silent, K3 had a vibration);

Other than taking pics of a blank wall and examining carefully, is there any "easier" method to detect dust on the sensor ?

Thanks
Gary

Hi,
I am not unhappy. Just wondering if it may be a bit sharper at 1.4 and maybe have a bit more contrast.

It is a bit "creamy" at 1.4 and sharper starting at 2.0

Anyways.... I will not buy the HD version unless it is somewhat better.

As for the classic, I definitely do not care for flare... ( it even rhymes :) )

Hi everyone,
It has been more than a month since Pentax "laid" these 2 new babies.

Has anyone tried them out yet?

I have the 1991-2 version and I anxious to find out if I should upgrade or not ! ! !

I would expect that autofocus to be a bit faster and more precise since they will be using new technology and/or material.

Thanks

Pentax K-1 reputation for "bulky and heavy" - is it deserved vs. competing cameras?

I do not care about weight.
When I hold my K1 or K3, it feels so good!
It is like it becomes part of me.
Maybe that is why I just do not "like" my cameras. It goes beyond that!
I would not say that I am in "love" with them, but once in my hand, they command respect, attention, tender loving care.
None of the other brands have given me this warm-and-fuzzy feeling.

Hi,

Back to the "Are we really THAT rare?" topic: The last time I went in a camera store looking for a camera bag, the sales guy said "WOW, you sure look cool and unique with your Pentax !"

I said "Thank you ! Being a Pentaxian is an honor and a privilege"

I guess it comes from the heart instead of the money :)

Whenever I "play around" with my Pentax things, it is with Tender-Loving-Care.............
