Portrait Lenses for APS-C?

The proper portrait lens is the 55mm lens,
I love my DA70 so that would also be nice for portraits, but the true prime with the proper focal length for aps-c is 55.
you also can use zooms to get that 55mm.

For me, SMC DA* 55mm f/1.4 SDM is like a diamond..., Some time is difficult to see differences between glass and diamond, but they are present...

Here is my review for SMC DA* 55mm f/1.4 SDM (be carefull, many and big pictures)

and some of them:

Not an old photograph, more an indication of those winds of change that are the theme of this thread. I've become interested in what happens to old service stations when their time has passed. This one was taken in Gundagai in southern New South Wales. The Hume Highway, the main road connecting Sydney and Melbourne, ran through the middle of the town until it was by-passed by an upgraded four lane road some time ago and a full service centre appeared on the new road. This old servo has come to what you might call a 'dead end'.... (Sorry, bad pun...:))

The 18-135 is a very good walkaround lens. It's not a dedicated macro, it's not a Limited, it's not a prime. That said, when walking around the park or somewhere it's really good. It focuses quickly and silently, and tracks motion well. I would make it a priority to have, since the WR is a priority - this is the best WR walkaround available.

A K5II is good, read some of the comparison articles vs. K3 etc. just to know what you're getting. The K3 is really the camera we've all been waiting for, though. It has so much packed into its body, it's a compelling camera.

I have a K5 and I don't hesitate to let the ISO float up to 6400. Above that there's a definite tradeoff you'll need to calculate. That said, when shooting static subjects handheld I also don't hesitate to drop the shutter speed to 1/45 to keep the ISO below 1000. There's the beauty of TAv mode, it's so quick to make these tradeoffs.

Personally, I'd get a DA21 or the plastic DA35 rather than the 20-40, as I think the primes are more attractive.

The red hair and beautiful model would be enough for me to love this photo but there's more. The picture is nicely balanced by the red hair and chestnut boots. Great light really separates the similar blues and gives it depth as well as highlighting the textures. An overall very nice portrait!

Fast lens for Pentax (thoughts from Sigma 18-35 F1.8)

That's the problem at issue here - for fine art photographers good enough doesn't cut it. There are also certain specialist areas that zoom lenses can never compete with prime focal lengths: Macro photography, fast super telephoto lenses, Tilt/Shift lenses and high speed lenses (f/1.2 and faster) - zooms will never encroach on these areas because of they are inherently compromised.

Certainly I work with Zoom lenses - however I do so because in some situation I simply have no other choice. I recognize their limitations, but if I had to choose between a 16-50mm f/2.8 or a 50mm f/1.2, I would take the fast fifty.

It is interesting that a few have stated they like to be different.. or a contraian... I too step outside the box... not an ipnone user but prefer android... that sort of thing .. I guess its a common ground

Well, I seem to have just bought a Pentax K5 ii.

I know that may seem illogical given how this started. Certainly isn't downsizing. (But I have my Q if I want a small camera.)

What it does mean though is that I can sell the K30 and K01, and it won't be case of having 1 camera for shooting outdoors, and another for shooting indoors, when the loud shutter could be an issue. (I am going to America in the summer and didn't want to have to take both cameras, and didn't know which to take - so that dilemma is solved.)

Also, the K5ii was even quieter than I had expected. I like having more external buttons. And I also like being able to use bracketing with a remote.

So no need to say bye.

Especially if you've got some crazy-colored K-x or K-50 that makes it look like some Fisher Price children's toy... chances decrease another 9646168%.:D

Definitely a great selling point to use against CaNikon.

What he said!

There are far more, far better, far quicker and far easier options to combat fraud, that don't incorporate treating customers like criminals, and don't require their legal documents. Imagine what they can do with those documents.

It's uncalled for, even if they are trustworthy.

Pentax re-upping in retail?

Just went and picked up a K 50/1.2 lens I'd found on the internet at my local photo store, which previously had only sold Canon, Nikon & a few Sony SLR's. I walked right by it when entering the store, but after testing out the lens (and the clerks ogling the FA-43 I previously had on the camera now laying on the counter - they thought the manual focus feel was pretty nice - and asked when it was from, if it was autofocus, etc), they pointed to a center display in the store. "Wanna check out the new Pentaxes?" a clerk says, and much to my surprise, I turn and notice a K-50 display with probably a dozen color schemes of the camera, a demo unit and a tablet set up to create your own color combination and order it. He points at an 18-55 AL II they had on the demo camera (I asked, apparently they lost the DAL, although all the other colors had matching DAL lenses) and tells me how it's waterproof (it obviously isn't) because of the seals. He then pitches the camera, turning on the Live View focusing, remarking how quickly it focuses, the dual dials and takes a few pics to prove it takes good shots. While he might've messed up on a random lens' spec, he clearly had somebody pitch it to him, so I asked if the Ricoh/Pentax rep had stopped in - they had, and were giving out the demo/displays and spreading the word about the brand.

Long story short, I think Pentax is re-upping in retail. Makes me happy to see the brand out there in more locations like Target (so it's a WG-10, who cares, later in life they go into the camera shop looking for a DSLR and remember the good experience they had with the WG-10) and Best Buy. It gives me a warm fuzzy about Ricoh for some reason.

What have you guys seen? Any more presence in retail in your areas?

No wreszcie!, ktoś zareagował!

No to może jedną, dwie? Dla podtrzymania rozgowora. I w tym temacie, tj. o otoczeniu.

Ps. Ależ się cieszę! :) (Duch w narodzie nie ginie!)
Dawaj swoje zdjęcia! Reanimujmy te polskie wątki!
