Before or after crop 85mm? If after, then the DA*55 is the one to go for.

Interesting. And also a good reminder not to use both batteries at the same time!

There will be a day Sigma will return, and on their knees, to Pentax, but, by that time, there will be enough of other than Sigma glass available

I used to be a Canon FF (film) and HF shooter. The only thing I sometimes miss from Canon era is their SLR gear ergonomics. Their cameras just fit in your hand so perfectly, that it felt as if they were totally integrated. But I have no regrets in regards of lens. Plus Pentax compensates for "lesser" ergonomics (lesser ergonomics is my subjective opinion) by offering better price, in-body stabilisation and bigger number of creative tools (TAv/Sv, astrotracer). Be warned though, with Pentax entering the DFF game, demand for Pentax gear will surely be on the rise, which will in result affect prices, making in time Pentax less affordable

I like to shoot not only for the pure pleasure of operating advanced, quality machines (read: Pentax system), not only because chicks like to be photographed and sometimes might appreciate your efforts, but also for a chance to freeze the time and also in pursuit of "eco" shooting (in opposition to the real shootin'). Besides, don't you feel like some god when you look through the prism viewfinder, out of total darkness, onto the world? It's a cinematic, director-like experience, which has to have its appeal. But I guess, over time, with more and more photographs being available on the internet (same applies to movies), amateur photography, as some kind of distinguish hobby, might become less popular, we'll see

Surprised, as I only wanted to modestly support this very interestingly themed challenge, and never actually thought I could possibly be picked up as one of the most convincing four, so thank you very much! I now feel encouraged to take part in any future challenges, ha, ha :) Thanks again

Oh yes, let's go history berserk! Below is the front piece, featuring the viewing gap, of the Fort Henry in Studland, Dorset. Winnie Churchill, along with Eisenhower, Mighty-Monty and the King, were supervising the D-Day preparations and other WWII activities from here. Built on the edge of Studland cliffs by Canadians in 1943.

While in Southampton/Brighton area, visit Portsmouth HMS Victory. If in Corwnall - St. Michael's Mount. Have you been considering Poland? Malbork castle, former Nazi WWII death camps, Hitler's bunkers are there. Millau Viaduct in France..

Since you don't mind changing lenses and only are after truly high quality image, obviously go for primes then. Don't overlook long teles, as they're not exclusively for wildlives. You can also do some fantastic portraits with them, in certain conditions. You are "often shooting closeups, but often is 100mm too much". Seems to me like you are missing the fabulous HD DA 35/2.8 Limited then! This is not a WR lens and very noisy one indeed. Sometimes even causing underexposures on my 5IIs. But, nevertheless, this is the undoubtly high quality glass, so extremely handsome (mine in silver) and macro. You will love field of view of it, an equivalent to the standard 50mm on full frame. You will also love current pricing on Pentax lenses, to mention the SRS Microsystems website at least. Saying this I think you just need DA* 55/1.4!
