So the K-30 WILL accept my current SMC Pentax 18-55mm F3.5 - 5.6 AL lens that came with my *istDL?
How about other NONE Digital / Manual focus K-Mount lenses? I have several from 35mm K-1000, although they are NOT made by Pentax - Albinar I know is one make.

So out of all these Pentax DSLR's, which ones on the Cheaper end would be a good choice? I've seen the K-30 range anywhere from around $498 on up to around $800!!.... that's quite the price range - any idea why such a big difference?
Also, are there other brand names (Nikon, Canon, etc....) that will also accept the "K-Mount" Pentax lens?

I found this CNET site which does show some pricing and gives reviews on Pentax DSLR's:

Also found this at Bizrate.com - The Prices here seem pretty good for a K-30:

Ok, so now that I'm pretty much stuck with a very expensive paper weight, how about the lens that came with the *istDL -
Mine came with a: SMC Pentax 18-55mm F3.5 - 5.6 AL lens....
Will this fit on any other Pentax digital cameras?
I originally bought this istDL because I had so many other "K-Mount" lenses for my old K-1000 35mm film camera and they were supposed to all fit on the *istDL.
What other Pentax digital camera accepts the "K-Mount" style film lens as well as the one that came with my istDL?
Also, which of these cameras are the cheapest, the best made and most reliable? I do not want to end up with another expensive dud!

Has anyone tried any of these trouble shooting tips and if so, did they work? Sucks that you spend that much on a camera and it turns out to be an OVER PRICED Paper weight because the problem is not repairable or is too expensive to even fix!

Same issue here - All other operations on the camera have been normal, point, focus, shoot, etc..... but after the shot is taken, no image shows up in the "Preview View Finder" on
the back of the camera or on the SD Card - just a complete BLANK / Black image.

I called Tech Support and followed all their "Step-By-Step" Trouble shooting but still have not been able to obtain an image after taking a picture.
Before I send it to Pentax for diagnosis & possible repair (or not able to repair), I would like to see if anyone else has any other ideas.

Here is a list of ALL Steps Taken:

> Checked ALL SD Cards and ALL were "Unlocked" and able to be seen on a computer - as well as being able to view Previous images on the card on BOTH Computer and when inserted into the *istDL camera.
Actually tried several SD Cards of all different file sizes, types (Regular & Micro-SD with Adapters),
reformatted, and fresh out of the wrapper, etc.

> Replaced ALL Batteries several times with FRESH ones (ALL were checked with a battery tester) - several times
replacing with Standard AA's, Lithium's, and Fully Charged Rechargeable "RCR-V3 Li-ion batteries"

> Tried ALL shooting/exposure Modes on camera along with the EVERY step taken.

> Next - Then upgraded the Firmware on the camera from it's Original Current Version: 1.00 to the Latest / Current Version of 1.03.
Followed ALL the Download & Installation steps as documented and ALL were successful, but this still did not fix the "No Image" issue after taking a picture.

> Finally - Tried Resetting the entire camera back to the original Defaults or what it was straight out the box, as well as running a "Sensor Cleaning" - But still
no positive results when it came to obtaining an image after taking a picture.

Just wanted to say hello since I am newly registered here! I have been a Pentax Camera owner since 1976 - my first being a K-1000 (which I still have and it STILL
works GREAT!!!!
I'm from Raleigh, NC (USA) and currently own a second Pentax *istDL Digital camera which I received as a B-Day gift back in 2005.
The camera has been great up until about 8 months ago.
The camera all of a sudden stopped recording images after taking a picture!? - And YES, the Lens Cap was OFF the lens!

All other operations on the camera have been normal, point, focus, shoot, etc..... but after the shot is taken, no image shows up in the "Preview View Finder" on
the back of the camera or on the SD Card - just a complete BLANK / Black image.

I called Tech Support and followed all their "Step-By-Step" Trouble shooting but still have not been able to obtain an image after taking a picture.

Any info, tips, tricks, or advise would be GREATLY appreciated before I go ahead and pack this camera up and
ship it back to Pentax Service & Repair.

Thanks for listening - I plan to send this camera to Pentax Service & Repair within the next week, so I hope to hear a few responses very soon.
