The biggest positive to using full frame glass on APS-C is that you see less vignetting/better corner performance (since you aren't really seeing the corners) wide open. The biggest negative is that often focal lengths feel a little odd -- the FA 77 feels pretty long on a K3, just right on a K-1. A 24-70 doesn't feel quite wide enough for a walk around lens on APS-C and so on.
The biggest negative to using legacy glass in general is that purple fringing can be pretty bad. It is fixable in most cases, but there are times that fixing it leaves an odd gray out line around things.

Given that you have the 24-70 and 300, I reckon the DFA100WR would be a great addition to your kit. It fills a bit of the gap between 70 and 300, is weather resistant, a decent portrait lens and a FULL-ON MACRO!!
It's also a lot cheaper than some on your short list. Case closed.
I freakin' *love* the 31 and 77, though ;)

Not nearly as much difference as between the lenses used by "feeder shooters" and those out in the wild shooting for cash and publication.
I'd be willing to bet that given the same gear, Norm and several others here could easily equal those guys. The camera and lens isn't everything...but you can't deny the importance it plays in wildlife or sports photography.
I sit at my desk...drink coffee...pick up my K1 and Bigma 50-500 and shoot through double pane glass handheld at birds on a fake Cheater Branch screwed to a tree trunk for my best advantage....Do I fell guilty? Hell no! I do feel comfortable and warn in the winter/cool in the summer...and no ticks, mosquitoes or dangerous rabid squirrels to contend with out in the wild! :D

How would you know I didn't hike all day through varmint infested woods and jungles, fight off snakes, bears, tigers and angry fire breathing dragon squirrels just to get that shot?

I don't think anyone would want to argue that your wildlife is not 1st class!:)
I'm with you. For shooters like Norm there may not be an astounding difference, but for the rest of us it will be instantly noticeable. I'll tell this once again.....my 10 year experience with the Bigma 50-500 series has most often been frustrating in the AF category. Slow and hunting like an old blind hound in low light. On the K1 it is lightning fast and accurate in most any light. You immediately notice this...to your delight! :D:D Wildlife.....I assume that even Norm does some cropping, and doubt he would argue that cropping more pixels with less noise is a negative?
I shoot mostly in the Crop Mode...and love it for wildlife. That big crop frame lights up in red when focused and you can see exactly how you have the shot framed......no more cropping in processing is usually necessary. For web posting it is totally adequate, and for most prints too...unless you want to go very large.
If you shoot FF for wildlife, you had better have a long lens and a lot of cash to buy it...or hope you can sneak up on your subject as if you were invisible. If not...you will be cropping and the K1 has it built in!:)
That's just one aspect...the rest of the K1 brilliant features are too long to list......just take the shortcut and get the K1, you absolutely will not regret it! :D
Did I mention the great new SR...or the high ISO benefits.....

Look these wildlife shots over....they are all K1 and all in Crop Mode.....the good, bad and ugly are all there and so is the Exif. :)
Not "Norm Quality"...but I am not either....I'm just an average or below amateur! Shooting has never been easier or more fun since I got the K1! :D https://www.flickr.com/photos/129469263@N03/albums/72157668217340465

Just want to offer some criticism, mainly because I like to play advocate...
disclaimer:
I do not own a K-1.
I do own a K-3ii and the DA*300.
I love my K-3ii and I do not think a K-1 is in my foreseeable future...
criticism:
Norm, I agree that the people ignoring the math are quite frustrating, however you have to agree the low-light performance of the K-3/K-3ii is not great... At least when comparing to the K-1. I think most people are raving about the K-1 because the AF is superb and the ISO performance is top notch. It handles well for a FF and it's overall just something to rave about...
Don't get me wrong, I love the K-3ii - It well surpasses my skills as a photographer at this point in my life. One day I see the FF K-1 being a nice rounded addition to my kit.
Don't take it personally, but I tend to dislike your style of post processing. It's all personal preference, perhaps you dislike my style of shoot and that's perfectly fine with me.
The only reason I say that thought is with the curiosity of whether the K-1 would achieve something in rendering your images that you want from the K-3 but can only get in PP.
It looks like you want more contrast and deeper highlights from your birds images. I see heavy saturation and sharpening in your images.
Perhaps the K-1 would provide this rendering by default, or closer to it at least?
All I'm saying is I wouldn't bag it until you try it.
Again, I do not own a K-1, haven't even handled one in person...
But I'd love to give it a shot, even if I lose a few degrees of FOV with my DA*300.
Cheers!

Honestly, I'd like to see a raw image of both to compare.
No cropping and no post processing...
I tend to like this shot better than all of Norm's solely due to PP technique.
to each their own.

I bought neither a K-m nor K-x.
I am thinking about not buying a KS-2 but haven't yet decided.
I've not bought nearly every Canon available.

I grew tired of Canon dragging its feet (11 year Canon user here) and being a primarily Landscape shooter, my choices were the A7r2, the D810 or the K1. I went with the K1 because it made sense to me. I think it will prove to be a D810 killer in several (but not all) areas especially for scapes. I also waited for a high res Foveon sensor by one of the big 3, which never came... The K1's color detail is stunning. Bayer's mush up color detail , and what I saw with the super res on the K1, blew me away. Add to that, exceptional DR and Hi-iso performance compared to, what to me was the benchmark landscape body (D810) at almost half the price, was an easy choice. The Astrotracker was icing on the cake.
The K1 RAW files have excellent latitude, me and a fellow photeg (D800 owner) said the K1 files looked cleaner than his D800 file at base and at high iso. For me coming from a 5d3, they were an eye opener...
Nikon and Canon are playing a hostage game of releasing crippled products because many of us are invested in glass. (Nikon is a bit better than Canon in this regard, but with Sony not playing nice with them, who knows where they will be in a few years).
For me, the K1 may not blow Nikon or Canon in every conceivable shooting scenario, but in the one that's important to me, the K1 + 15-30 looks like a much better value than the 5dsr + 11-24, or the D810 + 14-24. And the way, they go out to give the customer tools that Nikon/Canon hold back, this system looks very promising to invest for me...

Hey Guys,
I am proud to say that I am a brand new Pentaxian! I decided to purchase the K-1 over a Nikon D750 and it will be arriving at my doorstep by the end of the week! Super excited to start shooting on it as soon as I can! I have already purchased the 24-70 2.8 and the 100mm WR macro which are my two most used mm ranged on my Nikon so everything should fall right into place.
I've been looking through these forums for a while gobbling up all the info I could about the K-1 and found this place to be a really great community, so I'm happy to join!

Sure we're not talking about your mouth thanks to a few too many? :D Ok enough with my bad jokes...
Maybe an AF fine adjustment is needed for the particular lens? Just some more hopeful thinking...

Having read through all the helpful information posted on this forum I decided to take up the offer from Amazon UK for a K-S1 + 50mm f1.8.
I have been using a K-01 along with my Canon 600D for the last couple of years but never felt like the K-01 was getting it's best use, I only had the 40mm XS with it.
In January I purchased a 16-85mm to go on my K-01, at first it was good in good conditions but once outside the arms length approach and composing through the viewfinder saw the keeper rate fall very quickly, I thought I had made a very expensive mistake in getting this lens but soldiered on with indoor tripod mounted photos.
Then I saw the K-S1 fall in price, I did my research and pondered, and deliberated......then pulled the trigger and bought one. As soon as it arrived and I attached the 16-85 I knew (this time) I had made the right decision.
The size is slightly compact compared to the big ones, this I don't mind as it fits in my hands. The grip, having came from the K-01 is a lot better, it is very fast at focussing TTL and live view plus the pentaprism is a godsend. I know pairing a WR lens on a a non WR body may seem odd, but I suppose I'll just have to dodge the rain drops plus the K-S2 was nearly twice the price body only.
Here's hoping for a happy K-S1 future. K-S1 + by Brian Johnson, on Flickr

I own both and they are super close with regard to size, but the K-S1 is better ergonomically and more usable with decent sized lenses (neither one is as good as the K3).

- HD Pentax-D FA 15-30mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR

Interestingly enough, the 28-105mm is not 'HD' nor 'smc'.
With its 'SDM', the 15-30mm f/2.8 is definitely a rebadged Tamron (but who doubted it?).

This is so awesome....I am impressed by the fact that so many Pentax owners care and are proud to be associated with Pentax. Any non-Pentax owner that sees this survey has got to be scratching their heads......did I miss something? If we really want to shake the establishment, gotta go for numero uno.

It's dishonest to say the least. I would be most unhappy if I sold a lens and it was taken on a vacation, then returned to me! One can try out a lens in an hour or so right around the house, rather than being shady "buying" one for a vacation, then wanting to return it.
Sorry, but I find this very distasteful for someone to even suggest another member do this, there's no "good faith" involved!:(

The black camera question is very different to me because I think the reasons are fewer such as 'it was the only color available' or 'it looks more professional', etc. When the Nikonos was available in green or orange, it was fairly straight-forward that divers would go with orange and those wanting camo in the rain forest or jungle would go green.
My OP is not about why did Pentax do it; it's about why did you NOT buy black but went with a particular color or color combination.
I drive a silver car because it hides the dirt well and I don't like having a dirty looking car, but I don't want to wash it all the time. Also, the color I really wanted wasn't available. As a pro, I bought black cameras because back in the day, amateurs and hobbyists had the less expensive 'chrome' finish and black was less likely to reflect back light or color (I always wore black when working) and you do everything possible to 'fit in' the perception of others.
Now that I'm older, if someone gave me a pink 645Z, it would put a big smile on my face (and probably others).
