Pentax K10d with manual 105 macro lens

Well I just took the camera out, put it on a tri pod and took a lot different setting of marigold. Not a favorite flower but it's blooming in the garden so that's what I took.

When I put the camera on "A" and X, turned my flash down to 1/4 power at f/11 with sun they were very nice! Same at f/16 were a little dark but edit fixed them to very nice. I tried the Program setting & green button with no flash, interesting. Also took the same flowers with out flash so I could get a good test.

Thanks again all the great info on this forum!!

It's an old Pentax AF080C ring flash. I LOVE it! But not with the K10d.

Thank you, sounds like the TTL that works great on the ish D just doesn't work with the K10d. I've always used the "A" and set the f/stops, I've gotten so I don't need to look up the guide #s anymore. My flash does have 1/2 stop etc. I've just used the auto. So that is something to try and try using Neutral Density filters. What is x mode? I use AV.

Does anyone know where I can find a printed manual for this camera?

I have a pentax ish camera that I leave my 105 1:1 MACRO lens with ring flash on. I take a lot of flower pictures especially wild orchids, some are tiny. This lens and camera takes beautiful pictures.

I just got a used K10d camera, learning to use it. It didn't come with a manual, so I'm reading info online, not the best way to do it. My question is: I put the macro lens and ring flash on this camera today and took some pictures, they all came out blasted!! I did the +/- and used small f/stops but they were awful! With the tripod set up on the same flowers, I switched back to my ish camera and they were beautiful.

Is there some reason that my old Vivitar 105 manual macro won't work with the K10D? I've had the macro lens for 15 years or so, I love it with the ring flash.

How do you know what firmware you have? I just got a new/used K10-d camera and it didn't have the manual. I see it's online, but that a pain to have to go to the computer every time you have a question.

Thank you for the info, and the pictures were beautiful! I've loved my ish D and have taken beautiful macro shots of wildflowers with it for 9 years, so I thought I'd just get another ish d on ebay, we don't have any camera stores around here anymore.

Interesting to read the k 10d is a better camera, and it's listed for only $164 at one of the online camera stores. Sounds like this would be a better purchase.

I've really enjoyed reading the replies to my problem.

I have 2 Pentax ish D cameras. 1 is set up with my 100 macro 1:1 lens and ring flash, I leave it like this all the time. I do a lot of macro flowers (native orchids especially). The other camera I use with different lens, for everything else.
Recently my camera says the batteries are low after only taking a few pictures. I've changed the batteries many times, same thing happens. The batteries are not low, but the camera won't take a picture. Estimate to fix is $220.
So, instead I'm thinking of buying a used camera on ebay. I don't need it to be the ish D, but I don't know any other model. Any suggestions? A friend has the pentax K20D, I like the larger viewing screen, but it's more expensive.
