First roll back through this camera & the good news is that everything looks to be working just fine. Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr Pentax K2. Tamron Adaptall-2 80-210mm f3.8-4. Kodak BW400CN (expired). |

One thing with the K2 that I had forgotten about until last weekend: the PK adapters for Tamron Adaptall-2 lenses have a K2-only "feature".
There's a little notch cut into the side of the adapter just above where the mount's locking notch is. It's not present on any other mount's adapter and is even missing from the later PK/A adapter.
Its only purpose appears to be that when you mount a lens with a PK adapter on a K2, this happens:

Ah. Should have been more precise. I meant odd when compared to later Exaktas.
But at least it doesn't have the little knife to cut myself on.

If you've ever used an Exakta, it's very similar but bulkier.
Though it's odd in a few ways: the shutter progression is unusual [1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/200, 1/300, 1/600, 1/1000, B, Z], and the shutter finishing cocking before the film finishes advancing so you keep winding long after it feels like you should stop. I had to check the manual on that last part, as it felt like I was doing something wrong.

And it's a split-prism version! Was so happy to find it.

Sold off a pile of gear over the weekend, thereby clearing up some shelf space & getting some cash for stuff I wasn't using.
Of course, I sold it at a camera show — so I immediately filled that shelf space back up. Sigh... Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr
The Exakta B is something I've been looking for for a while. Seems to fire fine at all speeds, but I'm expecting that there will likely be a pinhole or two that I hadn't spotted in the shutter. We'll see once I finish the test roll.

It was indeed what I was asking about. Thank you for the wider shot; I see it now. Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr KW Pilot Super. KW Anastigmat 7.5cm f3.5. Kodak Portra 160. |

Ah ha! That explains it.
I actually picked up yet another split-prism K2 over the weekend, making this my 3rd body over 6 years or so. Hopefully this one lasts; though I probably won't be taking it on any flights just to be safe.
(My first SLRs were microprism, but I like split better as find them easier to focus in low light & when I'm not wearing my glasses.)

I discovered the strangest thing yesterday: a K2 DMD with a plain microprism focusing screen.
Details on it weren't available, so I can't say if this was a very rare factory option or if a previous owner had the screen replaced with one from a regular K2 at some point.

First roll back from the Model 1 posted earlier in the thread. That shutter release is going to take some getting used to, as I wound up with way more shaky shots than I expected. Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr
(I had forgotten how flat a film Kentmere 400 is. Had to really hit the contrast hard in LR for this.)

Think I had an old Polaroid close-up filter* over the lens for this one, as that certainly looks like a tighter shot than the Anastigmat normally allows.
This camera has some issues, as you'd expect given its age. If you look closely, you'll be able to spot both the light leaks. For one I probably just need to replace the light seals, but I think the other might be the result of the mirror deteriorating.**
Thankfully both were pretty minor in this shot.
* I don't own a Polaroid, but they're the exact size of various other cameras' lenses.
** The Pilot Super has an odd shutter design; one that will be familiar to anyone who's ever used an Exa. Rather than having a leaf-shutter or a fabric curtain, the mirror itself forms part of the mechanism & acts as the first curtain. KW was based out of Dresden as well, so I suspect it may have had some influence on Ihagee. Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr K.W. Pilot Super. K.W. Anastigmat 7.5cm f3.5. Kodak Porta 160. |

Good to see you posting again, Colton. Your photos are always a pleasure to see.
I still use your Medalist loading guide whenever I forget how to go about it properly. :o

I liked the K2. The DMD is definitely a step up, given the exposure compensation notification, but I never found it that annoying to use.
I've had two. And unfortunately the electronics died on both. One I blame on a botched repair job and the other went through some rough turbulence on a flight and never turned on after. (I'm just thankful it was the return flight & not the flight there.)
In contrast, both K2s I had were the ones with a split-prism finder. (They're not common, but they are out there.) And it's what convinced me that I liked that more than the micro-prism on my Spotmatic.

I've got a box of Sakura Infrared on my shelf.
Not knowing how it was stored & knowing that I'll never find another makes it more of a display piece than something I'll ever shoot though.

Haven't shot one of these before. Only just picked this one up this morning, in fact.
It may be compact when all collapsed, but it's definitely a heavy piece of metal.

By fiddling with the white balance levels, I've finally figured out how to get Lomochrome Purple to look somewhat like what they advertise it looking like. This is probably my final roll of it though. (Even though I say that each time.) Untitled by Andrew, on Flickr Meopta Flexaret V. Meopta Belar 80/3.5. Lomochrome Purple. |

Great vertical results with the Horizon. I'm never sure what I'm going to end up with when I try it.

A Dial 35 then? I always thought those were interesting looking cameras, but I've never had a chance to try one.

I don't think I've ever seen a camera with that much mold & mildew on the metal before. Wow.
