I have the SMC 15mm Limited and I like it, but the corner sharpness is quite disappointing below f/8 - has nothing to do with your problem, just a side note.

All I can say - nice shots, great atmosphere.
But what is most stunning is the performance of the *istDS.

With my K-30 I use the 2s Self-timer - should work as a mirror lock up, right?

Hi,
I have the Pentax K-30 and I love it, but to shoot without an AA filter is quite tempting to me and as I like the 16MP resolution and the Sony sensor I thought to maybe get a K-5IIs.
Now what bothers me is that while the K-5II (s) series has some advantages, there are also disadvantages.
The Prime M processor in the K-30 is fast and the cam a joy to use, it has focus peaking (which I like) and better video compression (which is quite unimportant to me).
Now I would like to know from those people that use both cameras [K-30 & K-5II (s)] how much one feels a difference in speed.
Is there a notable "slowness" compared to the K-30, for example when you scroll through the photos in review mode?
I think in live-view the K-30 has 60fps while the K-5II (s) has not, true?
In summary I'd like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Nice. An exposure bracketing would have also been nice, to then do some tonemapping (HDR) to "open" the shadows.

Beautiful, would like to see a higher resolution (to do the "pixel-peeping tom" :)) - Flickr?

You didn't - and indeed of all my lenses the 18-55 AL WR is the "weakest", but compared with what the other manufacturers offer - it is really a good kit-lens.
I just wanted to make that clear in case a Pentax interested potential buyer reads here (as I did & browsed the forums & web some time ago).
I think if people would inform themselves better, Pentax would sell MUCH more cameras, the price-performance-ratio is so damn high.
I hope they continue this way, the K-3 is an excellent camera. I really hope they don't change the mount in the future...

Indeed, that's what I also wanted to say. It is far from "cruddy" - of course, it shouldn't be compared to a 35mm f/2.8 Limited.
Pentax is known for its decent Kit-lenses.

You are talking about the K-30, right? I've programmed the RAW / Fx Button to activate the focus point selection mode. So I don't need to push the OK button for 2 seconds anymore to enter that mode and then repress for 2 seconds to exit it - just push the RAW / Fx button, change the point and then repress to exit it.
If you want to reuse the center focus point - one push RAW / Fx, then OK button centers, then again RAW./ Fx.
I like it this way (I use the AF / AE-L button for Autofocus, not the "half-press" method).

Nothing wrong in doing so. You just have to realize (and I'm sure you do), that - depending on the aperture - the depth of field can be very shallow.
When shooting macros for example, I personally use (almost always) a tripod and mostly "Live-View" - as the contrast detection AF is precise and quite fast on the K-30.
When I use MF, then I quite often switch on "Focus Peaking" in the Menu, so that I can see exactly by the outlines which part will be sharp.
You don't need these things to make great photos, it worked for ages without it, but when these aids are there - why not use them?

Hi Guest,
now I see the photos.
Nice, that you venture on using AV and MF. Don't forget to try the "focus peaking" feature when using Live-View and MF.

Sadly this happens often - when trying to "make" things better, they'll get worse...

Hi,
You're from Italy? If you're in Trento it may be very cold and that could be the cause for the weak battery.
Otherwise I don't know what could be the cause.
Faceva molto freddo quando la batteria faceva questi problemi?

Get the SMC or HD 35mm Macro Limited and for wide angles SMC / HD 15mm Limited.
Ah, if you shoot portraits the 70mm Limited should also be considered.

What are they afraid of? Do they want their personal "court-photographers", because they fear an independent one could show the President picking his nose? WTF?
