SIGMA Black Friday Lens Deals

I bought the Sigma 17-50 a year ago at a similar price point. I love this lens. I sold my 40DA prime to fund it. The pictures are amazing. I recently bought the Sigma 35MM prime. Sigma makes an incredible product. Only down side some may have is that they are bigger than the equivalent Pentax lens. Personally, I don't find them that intrusive considering the outcome of the pictures they render. My next choice is the Pentax 77 FA vs the Sigma 85 prime. This one will be extremely difficult to make.

I had the same issue you had. If I went directly to the B&H website; and, your correct that there was not a promo code box. Then I launched it from the e-mail they sent me. I followed the directions at the very bottom of the page and it automatically took off the $50. I did not have to enter the promo code directly.

Agree with you that their website can be confusing to navigate.

I just ordered this lens for $419 which included the promo price. Looking forward to getting it and the versatility it should provide. I have the 15mm limited - great lens, the 40mm limited, and the 18-135 WR. I'm looking for an indoor lens which will provide me the greater flexibility I want in focal length in that 25-45 range, improved capability for lower light conditions, and improved sharpness against the full frame.

I also have the 100mm WR macro lens which is incredibly sharp as well , but is isn't exactly what I call an indoor lens.

This is a great lens. I bought the same lens a few months ago. Better than the 18-135. Pictures are much better than I expected.

I say go for it. Was in the same boat as you three months ago. I bought the K5iis. I absolutely love this camera. I could not believe how easy it was to operate. Buttons and screen access options are very well thought out. The directions for the manual are great. I followed another members recommendation to go through the book/manual once a week for the first month, twice a month for the second month, and monthly after that. Once you think your not learning anything new, then you can use it for reference only. When the K3 gets replaced I will move up to the K3. The learning curve will be so fast since the layout, buttons, and menu are virtually the same.

For lenses I have bought the 15mm limited, 40mm limited, 100mm macro WR and the 18-135mm WR. Once I learned where the sweet spot was for each lens I have been thrilled with the IQ. Only the 18-135 remains soft across most reasonable apertures. But only on the edges. The center is very close to the 100mm macro which is my sharpest lens. The 15 mm and 40mm follow and are only a hair behind.
I think dollar for dollar, Pentax lenses have excellent build quality.

All I can say is that "Pentax is fun".

I just ordered the Shibata today in Silver Sage as well. The 50% discount is still working. Looks like a good day bag when you just want to carry a camera and a few lenses.

SMC DA 55 mm F/1.4 SDM vs 70 mm limited

I just bought a Pentax K5iis a few weeks ago and have not been able to find a direct comparison on the 55mm SDM and the 70mm. I was looking for a prime portrait lens and was wondering from those folks which might have both which one they prefer and why. Any limitations on using either for landscape pics as well.

Thx

I just joined the Pentax club four weeks ago after a nine month research adventure. I selected the K5iis over the Canon 70d and the Nikon D7100. So far so good. This thing is so easy to learn and the layout of the buttons and controls are well placed. I am spending hours getting to know the camera and I don't find it a chore one bit. Between the well layout manual and this forum it's hard to go wrong. I find my self looking forward to the weekends taking pics.

It's funny how I graded the Canon high on my want list due to the touch swivel screen. I spent some time with the Canon, but I really like the Pentax on how the dedicated buttons and dials eliminate the need for fingerprinted screen. All I can say is this camera is "fun" to learn and use. The real plus is the color rendition and great detail pictures. Real hard not to bond to a Pentax.

Pentax K-5 IIs: $699 at B&H

I just pulled the plug and ordered one. I have never been through a more exhaustive search in my life. I literally spent 9 months looking for a camera. I must have looked at 10,000 pictures through flickr.

I was down to the D7100, 70D, and Pentax K5II or K3. I missed out on the K5II black Friday deal since I procrastinated to long. Glad I did since I wanted the K5IIs.

I liked the lense selection overall on the Nikon but the oil/dust issue on the D7100 turned me off.

I liked the touch and swivel screen but hated the dynamic range and ISO performance. Liked the zooms but the primes were just ok.

I picked the K5IIs due to the weather seal and IQ. The colors just pop. I don't like the zooms due to the SDM issue. However, the primes kept me coming back and back and back. I'm going the prime route for the most part.

I am now in the Pentax club and I want to thank the members of this site for all the information that they provide.
