Pentax K-30

Oldnoob,

It is funny that you mention it but I happen to find the K-30 also more beautiful than the K-50. In fact it was the sole reason why I got interested in this cool looking camera. Later I found out all the benefits of Pentax over the Nikon 3200 that I was looking at initially.

I think people new to Pentax like the K-30 look more and find it more distinctive for Pentax than K-50 design.

First of all my apologies for not double checking, sneaky Kmart.

Btw out of all threads that I've read here it shows that the K30 has more modern technology. Save the superior body and 1 stop higher Dynamic Range (which is indeed very nice) it seems that the K30 is a better buy. Or do I miss some important information here.

Hi everyone,

In my search for a camera I came across the K5 ii camera at Kmart for $600. Excellent price I would say. Good luck with this purchase.

Help me choose between K30&K50

Thank you all for your input and recommendations. After the recommendations above, I went to the store ready to pull the trigger on the K30 with the 18-135mm lens. Once in the store I told the employee that I wanted to buy the Pentax camera to make wide angle landscape images for during my hikes.

However the seller advised me to study System Cameras and buy a Sony Nex 6/7 instead. His argument was that the NEX is much smaller, offers the same still image quality and has better IM quality in low light and has better video (continuous AF in video). Since I had not studied System cameras this was a bit unexpected for me, for this reason the seller advised me to go back and study System cameras and compare them with DSLRs. Although I was a bit suspicious at first I must say I was pleasantly surprised of the capability of these cameras. Give that I will use these cameras on my hikes, less weight is better.

One thing I did notice however was that the lens selection is still quiet limited. I am specially interested in Landscape photography, there is only 1 Sony 10-18mm lens that enables wide angles and it is not cheap nor is it environmentally sealed.

So my question is, if MILCs are so good why are DSLRs still made? (Omitting full frames for a moment). And comparing the Nex6/7 to the K30, what options will I loose if I decide to go with the Sony?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy a Pentax camera and need advice to choose between the following configurations:

1. $750: K50 with 18-55mm WR & 50-200mm WR
2. $700: K30 with 18-55mm WR & 50-200mm WR
3. $700: K30 with 18-135mm WR
4. $500: K30 with 18-55mm WR

I hike often in forests and mountains and my goal is to shoot landscape & city center pictures. Both "natural" and in HDR. In a year or so I will probably also purchase a wide angle lens such as Pentax DA 12-24mm. I know that the K50 is a minimal upgrade over K30, but I am still torn between the above kits. I could not find a K50 with18-105mm combo for $750, which is my max. budget. Which kit would you recommend to me and why? If you need any more information, ask me. Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I am currently using a Canon PowerShot SX280 HS user but I have decided to switch to a DSLR to make better landscape pictures. For the last 5 weeks I have been reading everything about aperture, shutter speeds, DoF, ISO, lenses and of course cameras.

I was Initially comparing the Sony A65 and the Nikon D3200 but now I have come across the K30 to which I am heavily leaning. The weather sealing of the K30 is a huge plus point to me as I am frequent hiker (as well as in cold and wet conditions) in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Because I expect to order the K30 soon I have already created an account here. Looking forward to learn from you and discuss many interesting topics on this forum.
