I asked B&H in NYC and they did not have a replacement flashtube.

Adorama suggested the following but were not sure it is compatible with Calumet Genesis 200.

Flashtubes - Calumet Genesis 2000

@Auzzie-Phoenix - Thank you for your response.

But the link you have suggested is for the modeling light and not the flashtube.

The Calumet genesis 200 has a circular shaped flashtube in addition to the modeling light.
This flashtube has three prongs to be inserted into the flash head.
I was looking to buy this flash tube.

I will post a picture of the tube i am talking about when I get a chance soon.

Thanks for your response.

Hi,

I recently bought a pair of Calumet Genesis 200 strobes in the used market.

Where can I buy replacement flashtubes for these strobes?

I asked B&H and Adorama, who do not seem to carry the falshtubes.
The modeling lamp is available but not the flashtubes.
Amazon and Ritz Camera list these flash tubes as out of stock.

I also e-mailed WeXPhoto in UK who eventually took over the business of Calumet when it went belly up.

Can anyone suggest where I can get compatible flashtubes for this Calumet Genesis 200 Strobes?

Thanks - chikkad

Can anyone please suggest a Pentax DSLR that I can buy to use my collection of M42 Takumar and Carl Zeiss lenses?

These are all manual lenses that I currently use with a adapter on my Canon 7D and I shoot mostly in manual mode.

Is there any advantage in using a Pentax DSLR with these M42 lenses?

Thanks in advance.

Price check reality - takumar 20mm f4.5

Hi,

I saw the following listing on eBay for a Super Takumar super wide angle 20mm f4.5 for $695.

However pentax forums shows average price around $200. Other listing is at $249.

I asked seller why it's $695... Instead of answering or touting the features of the item, the seller instead assumed I was not a collector, blah, blah.

I just want a reality check on the price of this item. Any feedback is most welcome.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have purchased this tank of a lens and I am pleased with its performance on a Canon Eos 7D.:)

However, is there a tripod collar or tripod mount for this lens?
It's too heavy to shoot pictures while handholding it out in the field.

One support option, I read is using a lens support such as the Manfrotto 293 lens support.

The filter size is 77mm, but that's not the outer diameter of this lens.

I can figure out the circumference and outer diameter of this lens, but most of the tripod collars sold do not display the internal diameter of the collar.

However, has anyone used a tripod collar for this lens?
If yes then can you please let me know the make and model of the tripod collar.

Thank you...

Hi,

How do you approach Eric for his repair services?

Do you simply mail him the equipment with a note describing the problem and your email/ phone no?

Or first contact him by email, wait for his response and then send him the equipment for repair.

My point is - wouldn't it be rude to just mail the equipment for repair without informing Eric that you are sending something?

Just want to know how others went about the process.

Thanks

Need Help - Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 85mm/f1.8

Hi,

I need some help and advice on how to fix my valuable Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 85mm/f1.8 M42 Mount lens.
I bought this lens on ebay and received it today. While appreciating this lens without mounting it on a camera, I did a very foolish thing.

This lens has an Auto/ Manual switch and a tiny pin almost flush with the rear side of the lens.
While inspecting the lens and appreciating it before I mounted it on a camera, I changed the switch from Manual to Auto. But to get back to manual again, I tried to push the tiny pin slightly.
However, I may have pushed the pin too hard, as it fell inside the lens.
I could hear it rattle inside the lens.

A few times after I turned the distance scale and the aperture ring, I am now stuck with the lens wide open at f1.8 and the focusing ring/ distance scale just moves between 2ft and 3.75 ft, it does not move all the way to infinity.
I can feel the tiny pin stuck within the aperture ring or the focus ring

I realize my mistake, but I was hoping someone would help or advice on how to fix this lens.
Seems like the lens may have to be opened and the pin re-installed.
Or can any one let me know about a place, where they can professionally fix this lens.

I hate to loose this beautiful lens for I paid a good price for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks -

Finally, today I got the lens in the mail.
Its very nice and beautiful, sturdy construction, glass and blades all look nice.
Just cant wait for the weekend to try it out on my 7D.

I have attached two marked up pictures, in which I am concerned about the "lever like" pin show in the circle.
Will this touch against any parts or the mirror in the EOS 7D?
Thats the question I had all these days.

I figured out the aperture pin, the auto/man switch and the small tiny pin which locks the auto/man switch.

I guess trying the lens on my 7D is the only way to find out i guess.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks Boriscleto and aurele for your suggestions and support.

1) Looking at the picture posted by Boriscleto and the related suggestion, I am still not able to understand it completely.

2) aurele seems to agree with Boriscleto's suggestion. But also mentions something about unscrewing the back part (I guess this is if the lens is used on a Canon 5D. Please correct if I am wrong.)

I am seriously hoping I don't have to unscrew the back part or remove anything.

I am expecting to receive the lens in the mail tomorrow and I will try out your suggestions once I physically have the lens.

Cant wait to start using the lens.

Regards - chikkad.

Seems like I touched a nerve here...when I said the I read things like filing down the lug or removing the lug. I don't want to do either.
I am trying to find out how I can use this beautiful glass on my DSLR, of course without damaging the mirror.
Hence, I came to this forum to ask for suggestions on how I can use it on my 7D.

I bought the Takumar based on the reviews and sample pictures I saw on the net and in this forum. It's simple economics.
And I love my gear, doesn't matter which brand it is.

Thanks boriscleto for your suggestion. I will try out your suggestion once I receive the lens in the mail.
I am still trying to understand the procedure you described.
I may have a few more questions when I have the actual lens in my hand to try out the procedure you described.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi All,

I recently purchased a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 300mm/ f4 on ebay.
I am waiting to receive this beautiful lens in the mail.

This lens has a M42 mount.
I plan to use this lens with a M42-EOS adapter on my Canon EOS 7D.

However, the back rear part of this lens has a pin and also has an aperture control 'lug'.
I understand the pin will be pushed in when I attach the adapter.
However, as the aperture lug is sticking out a few milli-meters out of back of the lens.
It seems like the aperture lug would not allow me to screw in the M42-EOS adapter completely.

Is there a work around this situation?
Will a M42-EOS flangeless adapter work in this case?
Will it screw up the lens if I open the lens and remove the lug?
Is there a tutorial online that shows how I can remove the lug?

I have read that I can file down the aperture lug, if I don't intend to use the lens on a Pentax camera.
I will be using this lens on a Canon EOS 7D.

Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance - Chikkad.
