I popped into Derbyshire for a potter earlier in the week, and thanks to the nice weather I was able to leave the 15mm on all day.

I think that this is because when you go into live view the diaphragm is no longer held wide open, and instead relies on the aperture block. Therefore, with a failed aperture block much less light reaches the sensor.

I hope that you get this resolved. I'm returning mine this week and will post here once I get a response.

Cheers,

Gavin.

Thank you for arranging this survey.

My K-30 has been underexposing the occasional image for the best part of a year, but has now failed completely. Fine if I want to shoot at F22, but not quite what I'd hoped for.

Camera - PENTAX K-30
Shutter Count - 5,171
Manufacture Date - 2012:08:03

I first used it 11th June 2013. The outcome of this will determine whether or not I stay with Pentax. Canon repaired my six year old point-and-shoot for free when it was found that the model had a problem with its sensor, so I could be tempted back to them.

Cheers,

Gavin.

I am a man of limited talents behind the viewfinder, so I was astonished when a friend asked me to select a few shots for a local community gallery.

I was interested to note that of the eight photographs I selected, six were taken with my trusty DA15 Limited. It hasn't been used for 75% of my pictures, so maybe it was the mind control that helped me in my selection?

This is a question that comes up from time to time, but the thread it now so large that it is hard to find a relevant answer.

I too was trying to make sense of the fact that sometimes my pictures were good, yet at other times they were disappointingly soft. On page 439 Sheld asked the same question, then came back with some test shots and an answer.

The secret seems to be in focussing near infinity. Bringing the focal point close to the camera can result in objects further away being soft. However, it is possible to shift the focus towards a distant object, yet still retain sharpness in nearby features.

Lovely lens. Some things are worth a bit of effort ;)

Oh, yes f8 is the one. Unless you're after starbursts...

This thread persuaded me that I needed a DA15 Ltd when I finally took the plunge and bought a K-30 this summer. I'm so glad that I did as it's such a gem. Sometimes I just take it out of its case and enjoy looking at it. Is that too sad?

I don't have any pictures that can hold their heads high in such esteemed company, but just wanted to register myself as one very satisfied owner.

The trouble is, now that I have one Limited lens I will struggle to be satisfied with anything less. The 35mm f2.4 plastic fantastic is more than good enough for someone of my ability and ambitions, but my next purchase is still likely to be the 35mm f2.8 Limited...

K-30 - exposure difference between viewfinder and live view

That's great, thanks guys. For the record, my AF lenses are the 18-55 kit one and a DA15 Ltd, so neither are what you'd call bright.

I've not heard my friends grumbling about this with their Canons or Nikons.

Anyway, I do appreciate the replies. Thank you again.

Gavin.

K-30 - exposure difference between viewfinder and live view

Hello all,

My first post here, regarding my first DSLR...

If I shoot in live view on my K-30, the results are great. However, when using the viewfinder the images are consistantly under-exposed by about 0.7 stops . This seems to be the case regardless of metering mode.

I spoke with the shop, and they asked me to return it for investigation. They in turn returned it to Pentax, who have declared the camera to be within specification.

One of the reasons for me choosing a DSLR was so that I could use the viewfinder. I could manually add 2/3 stop exposure compensation, but wondered if there may be some way to set the camera up to compensate for the difference automatically?

Any help gratefully received! My dear old ME-Super still provides good service, so I'm rather dissapointed to have bought a brand new camera that visibly under-exposes.

Cheers,

Gavin.

p.s. I'm usually shooting in Av...
