DIY SDM repair!

Works!!!!!! Took me about 10 minutes. The only thing was after the focusing was a little slow at first but then after focusing a few times it was back to normal! Here are pictures, sorry the are not great quality but my lens for my K3 was being worked on ;) haha I tried to highlight the screws and all. on the outer layer there are 5 silver screws then after this part there are 4 black screws when you take the black part off be careful because the contacts and springs will fall out (best to take this part off upside down so the springs and contacts don't fall into the lens. There will be 6 springs with contacts on them and 1 spring without a contact (all are gold in color) Then on top is the motor and just use the screw driver to work it (turn it) back and forth and reassemble. Nothing difficult at all.

I had this problem also at first, but I think you are having the same problem as I was. When you use it, resist the urge to look at the photo between the first and the second shot. Don't do anything (reviewing the photo, changing settings, anything) only take the first photo and then the second one, then that should do it. When I was first doing the selfie I wanted to see how it looked and where to align the next shoot. But what it does is reset the multiple exposure.

If you want a better chance to get a good photo you should get a small tv with hdmi input and the micro to hdmi cable for the K-5 that way when you go to pose you can see what it will look like so you can adjust before the photo is taken. and you can move the tv to the spot you want to look for the photo so you don't get caught not looking in the right spot.

But it would have been a little better not to move anything but look ore off to the right of the camera (your left) just so your iris would be bigger and the white a little smaller. But other than that very good.

The best I have been able to do so far. One of the photos (JPF0826A) I was taking a photo of a beautiful snow flake until the monster crashed into it at the same exact time as the photo was taken. You can see tiny pieces of the original snow flake flying away from the explosion. hahaha

Ohhh GOD!!! I wish that Pentax would finally come out with a full-frame MF camera!!! They are so far behind the other companies, they need to come out with a full-frame MF before everyone leaves. hahahaha Just wait, sure it will happen.

Here is the first set but the second set you need one more photo of even darker because even in your most dark of photos the highlights are blown out.

What are you using to merge the photos? What I do is take 5 photos -+ 2ev and use the automate HDR merge in photoshop. but for the most part photoshop doesn't do a very good job. here is a good starting point given from Scott Kelby " Radius 176; Strength 0.47; Gamma 0.76; Exposure 0.30; Detail 300%; Shadow 100%; Highlight -100%; Vibrance 22%; Saturation 26% That will get you the heavy HDR look that you see in many photos online. But I like a little more realistic look so sometimes I go Radius 51; Strength 0.61; Gamma 1.27; Exposure 0; Detail 170%; Shadow -65%; Highlight -38%; Vibrance 20%; Saturation -20%

Bookmark? hahah ;) it looks like for some reason that the image wasn't recorded 100% to the card. Are all your images like this now? If so I would send it to the Pentax repair facility with a letter of explaining what is going on and when you purchased the camera. They are very good with repairs. I sent my WG in and even though I explained that it was past the warranty period, they still fixed it for free. But if this is the only time it has happened then I wouldn't worry unless if it happens again.

Steve, I am just stating what was said by the representatives of Pentax here in the US. I see from your comment, that you must be from the UK. Which correct me if I am wrong but are the ones who actually went throughout the world taking countries and bending them to you will. ;) But really I agree with you that the US Government can't dictate to international companies, but there are international trade agreements and sure they could say okay but it you want to sell here we must come to an agreement. Contracts are made all the time in international business. And lawyers go through much research before putting a product out. Just in case if you couldn't tell, I was joking about my comment about the UK.

A Macro Photography Question 100mm WR

Well, I already have the 100mm WR lens. Maybe I can use some tape of something to lock the actuator arm in the middle which would give me about f16 (what I normally shoot anyway). The other option was to buy a new (old) lens for use with the bellows, probably the Sigma 105mm.

My evidence is statements from employees. The representative from Adobe was discussing it on "The Grid" Scott Kelby's show. And as far as the Pentax grip, I was told directly from Pentax USA here in Denver while I was with their product management discussing some issues with the new K-3 (minor ones of course).

Okay good!! That makes sense, double the length and double the magnification. I was worried that I would run out of room, in this case I will go with a bellow 40mm - 150mm extention! so I should be able to get a 2:1 Thank you for your help Elliot!

A Macro Photography Question 100mm WR

I am hoping someone can help me with my question about the Pentax D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR. I am thinking about getting a bellow or some extension tubes, but I am wondering what is the maximum magnification I can achieve with this lens. I know it is a 1:1 with a minimum focus is about 5 inches from the front element. So I am wondering if anyone knows, by trial or anyone smart enough to calculate it out, using extension tubes or a bellow what is the maximum magnification ratio that this lens can achieve before your front element is touching the subject.

Thank you,

James

Batteries are a different story, of course the Government wouldn't be able to say hey you can't use AA or AAA batteries anymore. Batteries are a power source and not the same type of product I guess you could say. I hope that makes sense. The Government has all kinds of crazy regulations, like for example back to Photoshop, after they come out with Photoshop 5 they have to wait a given amount of time before they can legally come out with Photoshop 6. I don't know the exact amount of time, but still just crazy.

"Hoya knew that Ricoh would do a better job, so they sold them everything except the rights to build future battery grips. "

Actually it has to do with the government, they don't allow you to use the same product many times for different products. They were able to get away with it with K5ii and K5iis because having the same numbers but just "different versions" it was okay. Some laws are very strange, you can see this also with Photoshop. They couldn't just come out with updates when they had something new they had to wait until they could produce a new product. So now they are doing the CC so since it is a service and not a product now they can put out updates whenever they want.
