I think part of it for me is since I'm doing manual focusing off the sensor (through the EVF) and that the Fuji doesn't have a Bayer filter, there is a sharpness that isn't there on my K-5. And of course the Fuji is wonderful for its color rendition.
Oh, and for what its worth, the "kit lens" in the Fuji is an 18 to 55 and f2.8 to 4.0. Its quality is outstanding. It isn't at all comparable to the basic kit lens for most dlsr's. Its not a fair comparison. They are coming out with a less expensive 16-50 f3.5-5.6 that might be comparable (but it still has OS in it).

Just to muddy the water (like it needs it), I am shooting Pentax limited on Fuji X-E1 with adapter. I'm actually getting better performance (IMHO) on the fuji with them than my K-5. Best of both worlds.

Bought X-E1 as my second camera. Finding its like going back to my days with my ME super. Might end up my primary. With adapter, able to shoot with my Pentax Limited Primes. Here is one from the State Fair yesterday.

I am the original owner of this lens. The SDM focusing does NOT work on this lens. I have repaired it twice and decided not to do further repairs. It has sat for past two years.
The optics are great. No marks, fungus, or anything else with the optics. Some dust on the outside - it was a working lens.
The screw drive works. Just tried it with my PZ-1 and no problem there. There is a hack to use this lens just with screw drive but I'm not adventuresome to try and I am getting rid of my zooms and going prime only (due to weight/neck and back issues). So if you can do the hack, you have a wonderful lens at a very cheap price ($300). I have found the same lens with broken SDM in auction on ebay for $450 so I priced this to sell. Likewise if you want a manual focus lens. Or you can get the SDM fixed (was about $150 when I had it done, don't know if they have improved the repair process or not). But its just time for me to let it go.

17-50mm 2.8 EX DC OS Sigma. Outstanding lens. You can read the review of the lens on this site. Like new. No mechanical or optical issues. I have the Pentax DA* 16-50 F2.8 and I believe this lens is as good as that but without the SDM issues. First of all, there have been no SDM problems with this lens. I am the original buyer and only selling it because the larger lenses are getting a little too heavy for me (I have shot Pentax since 1966) and going to all primes now. Its a beautiful lens - most of my portrait work has been done with this - you can see some of the shots taken with this at my web site - JosephFormanPhotography
This lens has been used a majority of the time in studio. Lens wrap, original box, serial number card, Lens Shade included. No mold or dust inside lens. No mechanical issues at all.

I shoot primarily in aperture priority - I set the front dial for ev control. Makes adjustment easy. I don't find that there is a bias. Try a test shot. Shoot an 18% grey card so it fills the view. Should have peak right in middle of histogram. If not, for that lens/camera you may need a permanent adjustment.

There is a mirror motor that flips the mirror up and down that probably is the problem. Mine went through that behavior, getting progressively worse. the same smack would resolve it short term. Didn't matter which lens. Finally had to send it in to get the motor replaced. No problems since then. Can't remember the exact cost - somewhere between $100 & 150. You will find some other references to this in other posts.
