I have owned a lot of film cameras from SLR to point and shoots and many brands. My old Ricoh point and shoot is one of the toughest cameras I have owned and is still tacking really good photos. I did a lot of research on brands before I committed to a new DSLR. My choice was the K5 because of how rugged it is. Witch far out weighs any trick the other brands may do better. One time out in a rain storm or one stumble and dropped on the pavement....Well the other brands just don't hold a candle to Pentax or Ricoh. Just as long as they don't start making them out of all plastic.....Like some other brands. When I picked it up and felt the difference I was sold on it. Other brands have to really push the sale and advertising because they have too. I am glad to see some companies put more into product than into advertising.

I have been shooting film in Nikon and Canon SLRs for years. Finally broke down and caught up with the modern age and bought a point and shoot Fuji Film and liked it but was very limited compared to my SLRs so I finally bought a k5. WOW I do not know why I waited so long. Did a lot of research on DSLR cameras and for the money the k5 was my choice. I just thought my film cameras could do a lot. I am blown away with what this camera can do. I am just learning the digital world through the DSLR so if anybody has any tips I would appreciate any tips.
Thanks Senior Captain
