Utterly dismal participation from me (again...) but I kept up with taking photos - and have just this morning uploaded the rest of the month (9th onwards, believe it or don't).
Fave is probably this: Eternity by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
Though I'm also a fan of a rainbow and the light here on That Tree: Rainbow by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
Still absolutely loving the lens. Don't know if I have anything more or different to say about it though. As with any lens I've ever put on a camera I'd like closer focus xP ... but realistically there's only so much you can have all at once.

Hmmmmm … that would be what’s happened for me (that I forgot till now, as I don’t use the floppy screen that much: I can’t really use it now, as beyond a few degrees the screen goes black. :-/

Not an especially useful opinion perhaps, as I don’t know the others you’ve mentioned, but I looooove the KP. Lovely to use, enough flexibility in settings for me, and beautiful image-making. Note: primary comparison is my old K-30, so was a big step up

If my appalling recent participation record doesn’t bar me, I’m in again…
Continuing with 40mm limited (have most of March still to upload…)

Thanks all. The CD role was really good for maybe the first three years … maybe 2 1/2? … but increasingly it was becoming all the things you note.
Muggins here felt so good on the weekend I started to second-guess myself … “maybe I could stay in the role… it might be ok …” Very quickly put the kibosh on that. “Don’t be a fool. You’re feeling better *because you chucked it in*; don’t mess that up”. xP
Happy for you others having made similar decisions. It can be too easy to lose why we started something in the first place. - And what we’re best at.

First day today of not being the clinical director.
First day in ages I’ve taken my camera with me.
… not truly connected though; didn’t have leftovers for lunch, so I ended up with space in my bag. xP
Feeling good though; was the right decision - and maybe I will get my head more back into photography

Another month with the DA 40 mm limited. It's fantastic; I'm not xP
I missed a few days O_O and did not keep up at all at all with posting or anything else (even processing and uploading I only finished off the last week and a half this morning, a week into March).
I still love the lens to bits; the focal length feels pretty right just about all of the time for me, and there is often a feel, a rendering, a something about the image that I think elevates it a bit.
I do wish it focused a bit closer sometimes, but we can't have everything.
Rather than spamming threads from a fortnight ago, the album is here: Single in February 2024 - HD Pentax-DA 1:2.8 40mm limited | Flickr |

I missed three days last month [emoji19] Not best pleased, but I’m past being upset about it. Probably helped that it was more than just one day, tbh
Sounds like a gnarly day

I’ll give it my best shot - but bear in mind that’s not very good atm.
Carrying on with the DA 40 limited

I do have a kindle, and it’s great … but books that I really like, I prefer in paper. The feel, and the experience of reading. It may be foolish, it is really, but there it is. I did consider getting the rest of the series electronically, but decided against it xP

It kinda is. Can’t fit the camera in my bag because I’ve got a great big book there - so I’m not bringing it to work. That then means photography ends up less in my head overall.
Add Baldur’s Gate to that, and I’m just lost xP

Buggeration! Missed yesterday (not even an iPhone photo of anything to maintain my overall streak). Dammit.
Didn't have my camera with me through the day, which was ok - intended to take something in the evening. I was on-call in the evening. Everybody was drink-drinky ice-y ice-y and I was getting a phone call every few minutes at some points. Never more than 20 minutes between calls. Utterly bonkers, and I didn't even think about photography.
Dammit.

Book 3: The Dragon Reborn
I knew of the series but had never read it. Daughter gave me the first three books for Christmas, and they are sooooo good. First was great; second was unbelievable; I’m about 1/3 through this one and it’s fantastic so far.
Time to get the next few in the series. ---------- Post added 19th Jan 2024 at 07:33 AM ----------
Doh! xP

I’m even late getting to the halfway post! :(
Still shooting and still loooooving the DA30 limited … but not taking my camera with me to work; combination of ++rain, and wanting space in my bag to carry the Wheel of Time books that are taking pretty much every moment I have outside work and Baldur’s Gate xP
But the lens still delights, and feels just right somehow

I’m thinking 2 or 3 years time and I start to cut down my days; probably a slow progression then to retirement in a decade and a bit.
Not like me blimmin’ father: turns eighty next year and reckons he might retire then.
… I’ll believe it when I see it. xP

End of the month - just about (few hours to go here)
Photography has been ok to pretty good.
Processing has lagged a long way behind
Uploading has been worse
Participation has been utterly dismal.
But the HD DA 40/2.8 limited continues to delight. There is honestly not a single thing about it I don’t love (saving the fact that it is not magically capable of being simultaneously super-wide and monstrous telephoto but being the same tiny size and quality and all …). Any photographic deficiencies are definitely mine. And it can impart a really attractive quality to even rather bland and uninspired photos; there’s a depth even to high-ISO and potentially flat images. Just fab. My new favourite lens for sure.
(And I’ll make an effort to get the rest of the month processed and posted… I might even put the best in here when I’ve done so.)
Edit ... ok, my faves of the month:
Sully featured a few times; these are the better: Sullivan by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr Satisfied Sully by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
A few flowers; the best couple: Peonies by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr Flowers by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
And finishing with a parrot: Prince by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
Glorious lens.

Indeed I did. It was brilliant. I really enjoyed using the lens for so long, but also think I really got to grips with the lens.
I'm intending the same with the 40 mm limited for all of 2024.
Thus, naturally I'm taking a photo with one lens every day, so I'll be in for January - though I make no promises about my participation :( I will seek to do better than I did in December.

Budget … our service is always millions *under* budget. The main hospitals are way over. Right now there’s a huge push to improve the financial position of the Health District, and super-frustratingly, our service is getting squeezed just as hard as the hospitals which are the ones over-budget.
Doing my tiny brain in. Def not the best recruiting environment, despite all my vacancies.
And ours ain’t gonna change *at least* till next financial year.

Ermahgerd what have you done? Now I’m going to subject potentially a whole new audience to the madness of my trolleys xP
Starting with this poor specimen: Legless by -Occasionally Focused-
As I said at the time “This rather sad-looking, and obviously disabled trolley was sitting alone, abandoned, and ignored, outside Penrith Plaza. Everyone walked past, with not even a look being spared, let alone an offer of help; it's easier to ignore the plight of others than to face inconvenience - and being confronted with the inevitable casualties of the system that gives us our unrealistically-priced fancy consumer goods.”
It’s just not an urban shopping trolley photo without a bit of anthropomorphising, and ideally, social comment. ;)
Hell’s bells that’s one of the best I’ve seen! ---------- Post added 8th Jun 2022 at 05:09 PM ---------- And this always appealed: Camera Roll-16 by -Occasionally Focused- ---------- Post added 8th Jun 2022 at 05:11 PM ---------- Trolleys either can’t read or don’t care… Obstructive by -Occasionally Focused-
(I’m going to have to pace myself with these posts…)

Welp, my first SiC in a while, spurred by the HD DA 40mm limited.
I did shoot every day, but made a shameful half-attempt at actually posting; I think I literally only made the ides.
Anyway... I almost did a thread-dredge, but have decided against it; the album is here: Single in November 2023 - HD Pentax-DA 1:2.8 40mm limited | Flickr
The lens... O. M. G...
I adore the Da 21, my only other limited lens. There really is a something about it. I do love the wide view. But... at times I have a hankering for something closer. My DA35 is almost there but isn't special (though it is great); my DA50 (other plastic fantastic) is just a bit tight - and likewise great but not special.
This thing is just #chefskiss. It's a lovely field of view (despite reading a bunch of folks talking about 60 mm on a FF or 40 on APSC being weird), with just a wee bit of compression , gorgeous bokeh. It's so sharp I've really not felt the need to stop it down - other than when I shot the Christmas tree the other day (in December) and wanted more of it in focus - and the rendering of both in- and out-of-focus areas is fab.
I honestly can't see me taking this lens off much at all.
The lens cap is a bit weird and I'm still not used to it. Only once (so far) have I unscrewed the hood along with the cap... It's not a grab and snap kind of lens unless you keep it uncapped when you think you might be shooting.
Anyhoo ... verdict, obviously duh, is that it is brilliant and everyone should have it. xP
My faves from the month:
#1 obviously is my girl, dressed and dolled up for her high school formal: Formal night by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
I always think my obi makes for a pretty good test of detail, resolution, rendering ... stuff: Kurobi by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
Of course there were a bunch of Sully: Snoozy Sully by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
And of the jacaranda while it's blooming: Misty Jacaranda by Occasionally Focused, on Flickr
Happy with the month overall - just not my posting performance. And ecstatic with the lens; I hope you can all put up with this FoV from me for the foreseeable. xP ---------- Post added 4th Dec 2023 at 08:13 AM ----------
Thank you 8)
