So, I'm re-igniting my interests in using the Pentax O-FC1 flue card. I had posted in a panic mode while on vacation asking why I couldn't pre-veiw images when using a cell phone as it was quite an upgrade from the old phone. The short answer was that the browser had to be in "private" (Firefox) or "incognito" (Chome) modes and it did work fine.
To me the whole point of using the card is to not touch the camera body: Has anyone successfully figured out how to use "Bulb" mode and a flu card to get exposures of over 30 seconds? I tried setting the shutter release option under the customization features of the camera (a k3) so that it takes a shutter release press to open and one to close the shutter (vs just holding the shutter release). Unless I am missing something, it appeared I had to press the shutter release button to close shutter on the camera and that it wouldn't take the command from the browser window on the phone.
There's really nothing about it in the user manual.
For really long shots (over a minute) for night urban land scapes, or those creamy-dreamy water fall or beach shots, what do most people do? Just set the camera on a tripod and use the regular shutter release button?
Thanks in advance

thanks mlag: yes I had the manual on my phone the whole time. I guess it always goes back to "know your equipment" and I was trying to revive the process while actively traveling on vacation. I didn't have time before hand, but I did it before I had confidence it would work again. I figured it had to do with some security issue with the new phone or new browsers on the phone (I went from Android v 9x to 11x in the process). I think the issue is the browser has to be in "stealth" mode. Of Firefox it's called "private" mode, on Chrome it's called "Incognito". Trying it on a lazy Sunday afternoon, it worked! All that.
Now (I'll post again) anyone know what the settings should be for bulb mode to get the shutter to work? I went into the menus and selected the option to do a "press to start" " press to end" instead of a continuous press on the bulb shutter mode, but I can't seem to get it to stop unless I press the camera button. I'll keep digging on that one...

Taken from a moving boat along the Napali Coast of Karui (Hawaiian Islands, USA). The contrast between the clouds forming at the top and the still setting sun was dramatic, I think B&W enhances that. Cliffs are just over 2,000 feet tall, right out of the Ocean. Waves were probably 3-4 feet high, so it wasn't without it's challenges (not to mention splashing!). It wasn't until we got back from Hawaii that we learned about the "atmospheric river" that caused so much flooding in California later in December. This must have been the beginnings of the journey of the moisture.
Ironically, Pentax media influencer Joey Skibel on Instagram was just there within a few weeks of our family's visit. He had posted a picture from the other side of those cliffs from another amazing area called "Wiamea Canyon."

. Harnzel: there's no app: the phone uses a web browser. ---------- Post added 12-04-22 at 01:02 PM ---------- . Good idea, but not available while traveling. :(. ---------- Post added 12-04-22 at 01:03 PM ---------- . I don't remember that, but I'll try to investigate further. Thanks

I haven't been too active lately, especially for to not traveling due to the pandemic. And of course, now I'm on vacation with a new phone and I'm trying to get the flucard to work again. I have not had an issue in the past, but I'm wondering if there's a security setting on the new phone I might be missing?
I'm in a recent Samsung on Android 11.
I have reset the flu card settings, and tried to reestablish connections to the card. I've used both Firefox and Chrome, they both seem to operate the same. When going into picture mode, I can reset camera functions (speed, aperture etc), but no live view shows. I can even chances the figure point, and I'll see the camera respond. But it won't show the image.
It's as if the live feed is blocked by the browsers maybe because it's not an https site? (And after trails a few other forum items, maybe I need to switch to jpg for that card? - I hope not, I've been trying to get build bulb mode as I'm in Hawaii and the volcano just started erupting!)

Some really nice pictures, was a touch choice. On #13, what lens produced such wonderful star busts?

Nice composition. Have you tried conversion to B&W (I think the contrasts would stand out just a touch nicer)?

All very nice. I would love to know more about the exposure on #1, and what lens produced such a wonderful star effect of the sun?

On your managing multiple versions, did you check to see if the previous version was sharing the same catalog DB? I think you can check the preferences of LR and see what it's using. It might be possible during the update to 6 that you can import and preserve previous version catalogs.
(I did do an upgrade last year from 5 to ver 6 and once that upgrade was behind me I haven't had an issue - catalog mgt is the most important aspect of LR I think as that's how it does in non-destructive edit management).

These look ok to me as well, both lighting and the snow contribute to the grey look. In general rule of thumb, back in the old days (film), I'd use 2 stops correction. I would have at least tried 1 to 2 stops exposure compensation as well today. I'd also do a sequence of exposure shots just to get an idea of how sensitive the sensor is. But I think all of it is also easily handled post processing (did you save RAW files, or only JPG)?
I recently did capture a few pictures in the snow, but it was at night so the lighting is totally different... You're welcome. Might be a good project to turn into a photo studio? We stayed in an historic church built right after the US Civil War down in Indiana near Bloomington. The area that supported it had basically been drowned by the building of a dam, and instead of decaying, it was saved, turned into a photo studio and then we used it as an Air Bn'b. Looks like a piece of history is about to be lost.

the contrasts of the building detail really help seem to snap the outline of building out. If not for that, it would be so flat that it would be hard to distinguish. Color scheme seems to be a little on the warm side, but that seems to give it a nostalgic/antique almost sepia tone feeling to the image. Nice

like the way that the bands of color fall; almost like a rainbow, from the warmer top to the cooler bottom by the sea. Did you enhance those bands of color post processing?

nice. like the fact that the tree trunks have that "leading" to the center look, and the base of the trees have a vignetting effect playing with the light, reinforcing the "focus" of the trees.
