Haha.... ---------- Post added 23-11-22 at 06:32 PM ----------
Thanks.... took a few days to find a group.... lot's of vegetation from the last year or so of rains.... so they can be quite invisible... but once generally located they don't move far .... I got a bit slack just walking with my F*300.... but next evening went back with the 150-450. ---------- Post added 23-11-22 at 06:36 PM ----------
It was weid weather for November up there..... windy, wet..... and sort of a bit cool..... I took the van so biggest worry was getting out if the roads were to wet.... but we seemed to only get 10mm of rain a couple of times whilst 40km south they had 50mm.... I did take extra food and wine to wait things out a bit if needed.

Spent the last week up in the Gawler Ranges in South Australia.
Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby (K3III and DFA 150-450)
and then one can play chasing the budgies! These guys are super fast through the gulleys.... twisting and turning..... the K3III (focus tracking) had potential but I didn't put much effort in. |

Being the ideas man that I am.... I long ago decided that no hobby I have should ever be alone..... so each new hobby/interest is just a new member of the family..... so...
Pentax meet Scrambler..... a family that plays together stays together....
Over the years I've accumulated a large family..... get out and do what you enjoy.... and see what happens from there..... and as a passing comment.... much joy comes from using nice tools for lots of us..... not just from achieving an outcome.... the destination is often way over rated.

The best thing about the K1.... is I have long forgotten paying for it.... so that makes it a free camera..... probally with 10 years more use for me.
I think some must operate in the "fraction of one percenter's" to stress too much between a K1 and K1mk2..... current price aside.

I think it might all depend on how much photography is going to be as a part of your retirement..... the more it is likely to be a significant interest the more I'd spend on a K3iii versus the 70.... also... we are mostly amateurs here.... so I wouldn't sweat that. I retired at 48 and am now over 60.... and still enjoy adding to my gear every now and again.... retirement is just a new begining for the most part.
I'd get the K3iii.... and sneak a pre owned K1 at a later stage..... then do the annual birthday/xmas lens thing.

mmm.... the build quality (KP, K1, K3 etc) and slow moving nature of any real technical improvements these days..... sorta makes these cameras 10 year ownership propositions for lots of us (ie Pentax users).... so.... other than silly disposable income splurges for no real reason.... I'm pretty unlikely to drop money on a new KP.... no matter what it offers.... (I own one already). I'm quite happy with it's current capabilities (original KP) as it sit's within the pentax range.

I probally wont be much help.... my fav pentax digitals are/were the K200, K5II, K1 and KP..... less fave have been the K3 (poor low light performance) and K3III..... I now run a KP, 2 K1's and a K3III. The K3III was mostly bought as a DFA150-450 body..... generally I like the viewfinder and joystick.... but somewhat miss the GPS.
In analysing things.... I think part of the issue with the K3III (for me) is that it probally came too late for where I am in the hobby..... I guess I'm use to getting easy results with my K1 and KP and just don't have the need "to learn" the focus system... I get better results based on my adhoc use of the camera using simple focus techniques. I do miss the GPS of my K1.... and can't be bothered using a phone with any camera (ie GPS or screen image stuffing around)....
I'm also somewhat over expecting any "new" body to be an answer to our hopes.... and then finding a few things are better and a few things have been overlooked. Maybe.... in reality.... the K1 and KP are just enough for me.... and I just don't have the user need for what a K3III offers.... so haven't bonded with it.

In my case.... buying a K3III brought some clarity on this matter to me. I expect my K1's to do me for the next 10 years.... I've not connected with the K3III.... but maybe oneday something will click.... but I am unlikely to get suckered again.

It would be an each way bet on what camera would have the most life left in it..... yours as is .... maybe with a careful sensor clean at home...... or yours mailed to the US.... opened, shutter replaced, cleaned and mailed back..... would not surprise me if yours "as is" was stil working 5 years from now..... and your "repaired" one wasn't.
Off course.... if we were talking wives.... then just get a new one.... getting them repaired doesn't seem to work in the long run either.

If trying something out ..... try looking at an ant on the ground near your feet..... and.... look at a back lit branch/etc near the edge of the field of view.... nothing compares for these things at the price point...... sadly I use them for readimg medicine bottle small print!

Every nature observer should have one or more PAPILIO 6.5x21's. After experiencing a pair you may decide you need nothing else.... except another pair for the car glovebox, motorbike etc etc. I do have better and pricier optics (Pentax ones as well)... but mostly use the paps....

Fwiw.... I didn't rush in the get the DA 1.4TC..... but it finally got to the top of the list of "things I don't really need but somehow want". I can confirm that it pays not to overthink this type of purchase...... I did (as part of my due diligence) determine beforehand that world hunger was likely to be eradicated before Pentax released a FF TC.
I have since also discovered that the likely hood of needing the 1.4tc at any given time is inversly proportional to having it with you. Spookily... my memory is much the same nowdays.
Also.... I'm just as likely to use the 1.4 with say a K1 even though I have k3III.... life is to short to not mix things up a bit....

I would not have bought it.
Turns out.... that a K1 (or 2) and a Kp is all I will most likely need for the next 10 years or so.

Yeah.... the machine may have some different cycle options.... when I went from one machine a few years ago to the one I'm using now I had to change the selection.... it's quite common in bread making to do an initial mix... then rest (flour hydrates and gluten developememt gets a head start...... sort of an autolyse)... then a knead cycle etc.... good to know you are getting there.

Mmm.... bad luck! I was expecting to read that the plastic paddle melted.... no temp issues with mine during the knead cycle.... this is the second one for me....

I have a KP and a K3iii...... and..... it is worth considering keeping the KP if you can swing it.
I use the KP for travel and "light" shooting and the K3iii for more "focussed" shooting.

I have a KP, K3III and 2 K1's.... all I can say is I like to have available 2 cameras but.... now days... it really doesn't matter what one I grab for most shots.... sad but true.
I favour the KP for the motor bike.... and two slot cameras for other peoples event type shots.... but... now I just enjoy any pentax camera and a lens or two and some tranquility. I think I'm finally arrived at being old.
Anyway... my old man advice is one camera and one motor bike.... and go from there.
