Capture One Pro vs Lightroom

I have been using Capture One for years. Commercial and catalog photographers I assisted right out of school all used Capture One as the RAW processing standard. It has given me excellent results as well. I have never attempted to use Lightroom since I am so happy with Capture One. The only beef I have with Capture One is the lack of tethering support for Pentax. Canon and Nikon DSLRs are supported. C'mon Pentax!

Photographing metal

I may be repeating some suggestions here....but my two cents: The attached shot was lit using a strobe through a long thin piece milk plastic (translucent white plexi) as my main light. I had another fill strobe through a home made diffusion sheet opposite my main. The gradations and shape was controlled with a series of gray and black reflector cards of various sizes place to reflect my desired effect. The blackest space in the middle of the items was of course where the camera was located. Sometimes I even take white seamless and cut a hold for my lens if needed.

Another process would be to create a tent like situation without using a tent. I'm not a fan of tents. Placing white foam core using indirect lighting of the subject (lighting your foam core and bouncing the light onto your subject) surrounding the metal object then placing black and gray cards to subtract light where needed. Similar results as my first scenario yet a softer look. Still beautiful metal photography.

Just my thoughts or suggestions. Others may have better ideas. Thanks for listening (reading) lol.

Photo is of first lighting suggestion....

In addition to some of the great tips posted, I suggest attention to your lighting. Very generally...if your main light is illuminating the side of your subject's face that is slightly turned away from you, the greater side of her face toward you will be in shadow (shadow depending on how you choose to fill that side). Your eye will go toward the more narrow more brightly lit side of her face subconsciously decreasing the over all face size. Just make sure you are controlling the shadow!!! Too much is too much. A flat, evenly lit face looks much wider. Something for you to think about.

Indoor stadium event shooting K-7

I will be photographing a speaker at an indoor stadium where concerts and sporting events are typically held. I rarely do journalistic shooting so I am unsure of how my K-7 will handle the event using available light at high ISO.

Any suggestions on how to tackle shooting this event? In some instances I know my mounted strobe will not have impact.

Thoughts?

Shooting tethered with K-7

I have my new K-7 on it's way to my front door as I type. I have read online that the k-7 doesn't work with Remote Assistant 3. I haven't heard of the 4th version of this software. Anyone know when we can expect this? I shoot a lot of table top and my clients love capturing to my laptop. I must admit, It greatly enhances the ease of the shoot when attention to fine details is required.

I have never had a client turn me down for a job due to Pentax. I have been asked during a few portfolio reviews however never to a negative response. The ONLY time Pentax is an issue is when other pro photographers ask what I shoot with.

100 % of my income is generated by my Pentax K10D. I am a commercial photographer who was quite excited years ago when the K10D became available. The k20D is soon to be a member of my arsenal. The ONLY time shooting professionally with a Pentax has been an issue for me is when another pro asks what I shoot. Plain and simple.

I use a combination of Capture One 4 and Pentax Remote Assistant. Capture One software has a "hot folder" function allowing Remote Assistant to save to a designated folder then immediately view in Capture One. The only problem is Remote Assistant takes was too long to save to the laptop. One day I would be excited to hear Capture One can handle shooting tethered with Pentax as it does with Canon and now Nikon.
