I was in Santa Barbara and called the new Samy's on State Street and inquired about the camera. They had it, $898.95, no sales tax, which saves about $71. I couldn't pass it up with the additional $200 rebate, so here I am with this beautiful piece of craftsmanship for $698.95. The build quality is so superior to similar Nikons and Canons. I was going to hold out for the full frame, but I figured this was going to be the top of the line Pentax aps-c for the foreseeable future. Besides, I probably will wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation full frame that will have the bugs worked out, although I am a bit concerned that it hasn't been rolled out in time for Christmas sales. I guess they want to get it right the first time and it wasn't quite ready.

I am profoundly disappointed in Pentax for not making the K-3 a full frame DSLR. This morning Sony announced its compact full frame camera, so they are acknowledging the market potential. We Pentax loyalists are owed no less, and it is a mistake to alter the display to Ricoh. Sony should have kept the Minolta name intact, and Ricoh should do the same for Pentax. They have to decide whether or not to stay in the camera business. If they limit their offerings to low-midrange they will ultimately lose everything. I remember when Herbert Keppler was alive he used mostly Pentax cameras for his Popular Photography articles. There is pent up demand for a full frame Pentax. Sad to see that Ricoh doesn't get it.
