Proud new dad here wishing all the other dads a Happy Father's Day! Made this video for our little boy who is not quite 3 weeks old yet. Still learning the nuances of video recording and editing so it's far from perfect but we think he'll enjoy seeing it when he's older. :p |

UPS delivered mine today from Adorama. Early X-mas gift from the wife. :)
I had my K-7 battery charged up so I was able to use it in the K-5 to fire a quick test shot. PhotoMe showed that it was the 1st shutter count but the manufacture date was 1/29/11! Hope it doesn't have any problems. The high ISO is amazing!
Been reading his forum regularly since I got the K100ds back in 2007. Hoping to be more active since I'm a little more experienced now. :)

My wife just gave me the okay yesterday to get a K-5 also! Just missed the $1,099 Amazon deal but I will keep an eye out for the next sale. I started with the k100ds in 2005 and upgraded to the K-7 2 years ago. Can't wait to shoot some high ISO photos with the new camera.
Anybody else waiting for their significant others to let them get a K-5? :D

I asked Promaster for an update on 8/30 and they responded with the following on 8/31:
"Our engineers are aware that the 7500EDF for Pentax is not compatible with the K-7 and are working on the update. They were informed from your first post on this. This update should be available soon, but I won't know when until they send me the update commands.
This is not a user firmware update. This is a reprogramming that is done by Promaster and select dealers. I will let you know when this will be available so you can send your flash in to be reprogrammed."
FYI: The 7500EDF seems to work fine on the K2000.

The Fry's Electronics in Plano, TX had the K2000 last time I was there, but that was a few months ago. Haven't checked to see if they're carrying the K-7.

It seems like the pop up flash behavior on the K-7 acts differently than on the K100DS.
I took a picture with each camera in Av mode without flash in a dimly lit room at 50mm, f2.8, auto ISO.
K-7 selected a 1/8 shutter speed and ISO 1600.
K100DS selected a 1/8 shutter speed and ISO 1600.
Both photos were properly exposed.
I popped up the flash on the cameras and took another picture on each.
K-7 selected a 1/100 shutter speed and ISO 1600.
K100DS selected a 1/60 shutter speed and ISO 200.
Both shots were slightly overexposed but the K-7 was more so.

I was using the Promaster 7500EDF on the K-7 and it seems that this combination doesn't work right in PTTL mode. The flash will fire at 100% no matter how the subject is exposed. I assume the official Pentax flashes work fine with the K-7. How do the other 3rd party flashes (Sigma, Metz, etc) work with the K-7?
FYI: I emailed Promaster regarding the 7500EDF. This was their reply:
"I have not had a Pentax K-7 available for me to test our flash units on yet,
so I was not aware of this issue. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I
will relay this to our engineers so they can start working on an update for
Promasters EDF flash units and DXR module for Pentax if they have not
already done so.
Flashexpert"
Bad timing since I've got my first wedding shoot a month from today. Anyone in the Dallas area with a Pentax flash I can borrow?

I ordered mine from J&R on Tuesday. It was the best deal I could find with the cash back. It's on the UPS truck and should be here on Friday. I didn't think I would buy a camera at MSRP but it's seems like such a leap from my k100ds that I couldn't help myself! (Although the k20 at less than half the price was pretty enticing.) Can't wait to get the k-7 in my hands.

If you have the k100d non-super version it doesn't support SDM so with the 50-135mm the camera motor would focus the lens. Most likely the problem is with the SDM in the lens.

FYI: If you know about the Microsoft Cashback deal you can get a 30% rebate on certain ebay purchases right now! It won't last long (sorry to sound like a used car salesman). Here is a link to the details: *EDITED again* 30% off at eBay through MSFT cashback program
Oh, and I have the 50-135 and it is great, hardly ever comes off my k100d. Colors, contrast, bokeh are awesome. Pretty sharp wide open. SDM is perfectly quiet if a little slow and it does hunt a little more in low light than the FA50 1.4. Wish I could've gotten it at 30% off but I might be in the market for the 16-50mm at that price, just gotta be sure I get a good copy. (Of course, I could always take a chance and send it to Pentax for any issues. At that price it might be worth it.)
