I agree, I’d rather have a tilting screen for low angles (particularly that I now have back disc problems).

I will keep plodding on with the lens but using it on the other camera bodies. Thank you for all your advice and input.

I’m not parting with the lens, it’s too brilliant optically. I can use it on two of my cameras with no problems and if it does break down I’ll just get it fixed. As i have said it just won’t get used on the K-3 II. Thank you.

The green hexagon is lit up and the lens has locked focus but doesn’t let me trigger the shutter. The problem is only with the K-3 II but not all the time. The other bodies I currently have are the K-5 iis and the K20D and the lens is fine with them. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. I generally just use the centre auto-focus point. The first time I noticed a problem was having the camera set to I think a 9 point setting for the camera to choose from one of them. Since, I have re testested with the camera just set to centre spot and the camera locks focus and doesn’t always fire. The lens has never been a problem with the K-5 iis, K10D or the K20D; just the K-3 II. I think I won’t get the lens converted to screwdrive as is fine with all the other cameras. I’ll just avoid using it with the K-3 II. What does worry me is when the K-3 III comes out later on in the year or next year, will that camera have the same problem too perhaps? It’s a little concerning to say the least. Once again, thank you for your reply.

Thank you very much for your advice. I will likely look into the 50-135 being converted as it seems to be just that lens causing problems. If I can I will try and source if there’s someone in the UK who could do it first. Thank you once again.

I thought it was just me. I have the K-3 II and have issues with using the 50-135mm DA* lens. The problem isn’t all the time, but often when focus has locked it won’t fire. I have used other lenses (including two other * lenses the 16-50 and 60-250mm) with the camera with no problems. Luckily I have a K-5 IIs which the lens works fine on. Basically my K-3 II doesn’t like the 50-135 which just seems stupid. I’ve had the lens 5 years and only the K-3 II gives me a big pain. I don’t know what to think about converting it to a screwdrive, it will I guess make focusing quicker but noisier. I don’t know how easy it is to convert it yourself and I wouldn’t know where to go to have it done for me in the U.K. Did you ever get yours converted or did you dump the lens? I love the lens optics which are amazing and wouldn’t want to ever part with it. I would just love it to work correctly with the K-3 II.

Surely the K-3 will be replaced first as that was out a year or so before the K-3 II. Maybe they will both go at the same time and we will see a K-3 III... You've got to keep a top flight APSC sensor camera for those not intending on purchasing a full frame for a couple of years or so (or never)...

Had my second working camera since Jume 27th and I can report that it is working perfectly. It is in the range of serial numbers that are suspect. It is a beautiful camera. Love all about it.

My second body is below the specified serial number too and appears to be working fine. My first out of the box was faulty. I have a 2 year warranty so if it did go wrong then I will simply get Pentax to fix it. I love the camera.

Spoke to SRS Microsystems an hour ago. They said Pentax UK released info to them this morning. My first K3 II
was faulty out of the box and was told my current copy (which is working and is in the serial number range as a possible problem) to not to worry about as it's working. I need take no action. Besides they said I have a 2 year warranty.

I'm like you, I have had no trouble with my second camera with the same serial number range as you, 61890**. I'm not sure what to think. We just might be a lucky few but the thought that something may go wrong will be staying at the back of my mind. I do have a two year warranty with the shop I bought it from so I may just hang fire and if it goes wrong in two years I'll send it back to them. My thoughts are if it doesn't go wrong in the two years after several thousand shots are taken and possibly 2 or 3 firmware updates then it is unlikely to go wrong with the not turning off issue.

I'm waiting to hear from SRS Microsystems in Watford. My first camera was faulty not turning off, but my replacement works fine including GPS. My second copy is in the serial range that could be suspect. I'm not sure what to think as it's working like a dream and don't like the idea also if it has to go away for a month to be checked.

I can say i received my K3 II yesterday and mine too out of the box does't turn off once you turn the off switch to off. You are still able to take photos, access menus etc etc. Mine got returned yesterday afternoon and they are sending me out another one which should arrive today. Hopefully the 2nd model will be working. It could be that Pentax need to do an emergency firmware update. Once bitten twice shy. I am now wary the next model might do the same. You'd have thought before launching the camera originally that they would have noticed the problem with some of the cameras. Fingers crossed all will be well!!!!!

Hi Ron, I no longer use one. The one I use to use belonged to a newspaper group I use to work for. It was a great little camera to carry around. I may purchase one someday in the future. Kindest regards Graham.

Hi everyone, I am so happy to be part of a group with other Pentax lovers. I have been a Pentax user since the early 80's with the MX film camera. I hope to be a good user and contributer to the group in the future. Best wishes from Graham in Brighton UK.
