I spent a night in the park April 14th 2012. There was a storm rolling in and I had to see what I could do with my K-20D. Here's what I captured.

How Do You Store Your Photos?

I download all my pictures on a 1T USB drive. Then every once in awhile I do a backup on DVD's. I don't store anything else on the 1T drive, it's only used for pictures.

When I'm on vacation I take a lap top computer and one 160G USB drive to store the files on. When I get home I transfer them to the 1T drive. This years vacation gave me about 2GB's of pictures. Right now I have 288GB's on the 1T drive, so backing up on DVD's is getting to be way too much. I'm looking for a better backup system, but they are very expensive.

How clean is clean?

I'm accustom to cleaning my 35mm Nikon, but when it came to the delicate sensor in the K20 I was a little skiddish about touching it, and because I was sending in the lens I decided to send in the camera also. As far as the lens, the the defects were on the inside of the glass, not on the outside. I saw two defects, one looked like a small chip and the other was like a smudge, also on the inside of the glass.

I sent my camera in today for a cleaning and they said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get it back. I just bought the camera 4 months ago, with an 18 to 250mm Tamron lens. I have not taken the lens off since I bought the camera, but some how a speck got stuck on the sensor and I started seeing a flaw in all my pictures. The sensor shake did nothing. I also found a flaw on some glass inside the lens.

I'm to scared to touch the sensor so I decided to send it to the pros to get it cleaned. Now the lens is still under warranty so it's going back to Tamron.

How do YOU meter?

Well I have a Gossen Luna Pro F which I've had for years. I just recently purchased the K20D and have been playing around with the camera's metering. I even purchased the expodisc and have used it on the front of the camera lens in order to get the correct metering. So far my test have shown that all three methods are very close, as long as you use them correctly.

I've also been working on the white balance, hince the reason for purchasing the expodisc. So far I don't think I have that quite right, but then that's a topic for another thread, so I won't hijack this thread.

J haven't heard the sunny 16 rule for years. I almost forgot that one.

This was a great thread to read.

Shooting lightning?

Those are some great shots, even through glass. I was out in Nebraska a few days ago, and made my first attempt to capture some lightning with no luck. I sat the camera up using like F-22 so I could get the shutter as long as possible. I got a couple lightning bolts in the frame, but they did not show up in the camera. Next time I'll try at about F-8 and see what happens, depending on the available light outside. I was also using ISO 100.

Thanks, now it's time to get out and play. I'm planning a vacation, meeting friends in SD in a couple of weeks. Setting around a camp fire at night might make for some good photo ops.

Well I'm a little new to the K20D camera, so excuse me if I asked a dumb question. I've been interested in high speed, for action shots and low light without a flash. I read that the K20D is capable of ISO 6400 but the only option I can find is 3200. How do I get it above 3200? Is there a setting that I'm missing? I'm using a Tamron 18~250 lens.

By the way, I'm impressed with some of your pictures, they are great.

Nikon flash on Pentax

I'm one of the new guys here, so first off I'll say HI YA ALL. This is a very nice forum and from what I've read populated with some really fine folks.

I have been an armature photographer for years, using a Nikon 35mm and a Sunpak 622 Pro flash. I just recently purchased a K20-D and the AF-540FGZ flash. So far I'm not real happy with the flash. I probably will be once I become familiar with it.

I tested the 622 with the new K20-D in manual mode and I had good results. Now my question is does anyone make a dedicated cord for the Sunpak 622 and the K20-D? I have a cord for the Nikon that allowed me to use it TTL. I have a flash meter so I can use it manually if need be, but would like the TTL ability.:D
