Goal: shoot the Blue Hour. In this case, a serene high-elevation sunset from a spot unmuddied by the bright lights 2 miles away at the Nevada Border. South Lake Tahoe, California side, Elevation 6200 feet, location on a spit of beach jutting a hundred yards into the lake. This photo is precisely how it looked. You know how when you take a shot you can feel the good ones vs. the ones you aren't sure of or know you'll ditch? This felt right and it looked and felt just as it does in the photo. Thank you nature. And Pentax. (and a shout out for the tripod).

I tipped the tripod and down crashed apparatus. Beloved Pentax AF prime lens 100 mm 2.8 macro took the brunt. Looks fine but now focus ring is frozen. My guess is dead on arrival. Question: if I get a similar lens now--Pentax macro 100 mm prime 2.8 AF, is there any difference in the glass now. Better? Worse? Same?...this is my favorite lens and seems to bless everything it shoots...:(
FYI, just looking at current version of this lens and there are complaints of "significant" chromatic aberration below F4. I experience chromatic aberrations from time to time but wouldn't call it significant. Is that a default in newer versions of this lens or has it always been an issue?

Beautiful. It is like a painting and yet you can see it's a photograph. Rembrandt would have loved to be able to capture this light..

Thank you. It was very helpful to confirm my suspicion about how to better correct the color...

I took this photo as a self-portrait with my friend in 1982 on a time delay with my old film camera, Pentax MESuper. As you can see, the inside lighting (standard lamp bulbs) left a seriously red/yellow tone. The attached image is after I did a lot of color correcting. The original photo was not as in focus as I would have liked, nevertheless when I use any sharpening filters I lose subtlety in the details and more pixelization. Is there anything you can think of to improve this photo or after-the-fact fixes. I have used:
High Pass with a 50%-75% opacity on mask
Photo filter layer mask to correct what was a much more noticeable red-orange color cast
I used a little brightness/contrast but began to lose detail.
Attached is the original unretouched scan in .jpg (orig is in .tiff) and the current result of various fairly subtle edits...
What do you think?
It may be that I just have to use this in another manner (such as a piece of another photo art project) but I love the photo...

My sweet husband bought me a K-30 after my Canon Rebel XT died. I was a die hard Pentax fan before that but at the time the Rebel came out, there wasn't a competitive Pentax digital. Pentax has so upped their game that I was able to find a top notch camera in the K-30. But over the years kids, working, etc. have stolen my mojo. I hope this forum will help inspire me. :)

I don't even remember my first Pentax but until recently, my favorite was my ME Super...sigh. Anyway, after a disappointing time with the PZ-1 I switched to a Canon Rebel XT and never really got the same excitement from it...a good camera but, not a camera you can love (imho). Anyway, now a K30 and we'll see what I get....:)
