Thanks once again for all your comments, particularly jatrax who ' confesses' to being unlikely to use a multitude of features available on his K1; whilst being very pleased with his purchase.
I am being persuaded. Still torn between my recently acquired siege mentality and live life (carefully) while you can.

The main reason why a FF well built DSLR is desired (by me ) is to make optimum use of our pka 35mm format lenses. If we want APS-C cropped images we can use our compacts and/or in my case Pentax Q, for which I have a superb selection of Taylor Hobson and Wollensak C mount adapted prime lenses. What for me would work is having a camera with a manual that once read can be put in a drawer. My Pentax Q manual is almost as thick as a Bible even though its NOT multilingual.

Thanks for all your input, comments re volume sales correlating to competitive pricing all a make sense. However I wasn,t seeking a cheap body, I was looking for a body that would demand more of my creative ability. Honestly, a few hundred quid over my 'budget' is of no consequence. Maybe a possible overdose of good feel factor generated from our Olympic success in Rio might push me into a K1 body purchase. Previous impulsive purchases have never been regretted.

Why? I suppose I just don't want to pay for them (the frills). My K7 and a fine range of K mount lenses; some manual (Tamron SP 24mmmwith PKA mount) is ok, but in the current climate I would prefer to invest in something that is an investment in true wealth. Maybe when the dust settles and the right Pentax DSLR arrives I will sell out (true wealth) to buy.

Not OVER the current price. Just £1000 for a FF basic spec body with weather seals. Maybe with. FGZ compatible hot shoe as I have flash gun.

I have K7 and have been waiting for FF, If only Ricoh had kept it simple a digital equivalent of the classic K2. Or even a K1000, Gimmicks and twisty viewing screens killed the K1 for me. I would have been happy to pay £1000 for no frills with weather seals. Since then I have 2 compacts with Leica lenses that give every bit of quality that my DSLR kit gives me. The longer I wait the more chance of me losing interest altogether.

Poll: How much would you pay for the FF body only?

Because I have some superb SMC Pentax-A prime And Tamron Adaptall2/SP lenses with PKA adapters, I have been patiently waiting too long for an affordable FF Pentax to arrive. Letting the Nikon F700 pass with eyes now looking backwards on the Nikon F750. All this against the acquisition of a couple of superb Lumix compacts both with Leica lenses for less than £50 combined. With bullion prices slipping, maybe a dozen full sovereigns would be more attractive. Perhaps someone can inspire me to rekindle my enthusiasm; if I could hire a FF body for a month that might help.

why is a full frame Pentax such a holy grail?

I think most K7/K5 users are quite happy with what they have, with respect to not upgrading to a K3 model; however Pentax Man (or woman) by their very nature still seek perfection.
Does cramming more pixels onto the K3 means more in camera processing and larger capacity memory cards? I think the answer maybe yes.
For me, it would have been logical to make room for a full frame sensor within the confines of the K3 Body and called it the K3FF. I personally have a range of prime Pentax and Tamron SP lenses (with PKA mounts fitted); I can get £40 for each mount, change them for AiS (for Nikon) and use my prize primes on a Nikon D700. I honestly think Pentax made a serious error of judgement in launching the K3 in it's present form.
Personally I would prefer 16 - 20 mega pixels in a full frame sensor. If anyone has a different point of view, that can persuade me to retain my allegiance to the Pentax brand I will follow this forum with interest.

'Holy Grail', full frame? I think it's as close as '35mm' digital SLR user's can get to perfection.
