Great video. He says he’s not a camera reviewer, but he said everything a photographer needs to know about the GR II.

And what’s with the 58 dislikes? Some people...

GR II now selling for $500 new. Time to buy?

Huh, that is interesting. I was looking at the KP deal this past weekend and a DA 21 limited thinking it would be a good street and travel camera setup, but at over twice the price of he GRII, and significantly larger. Faster and more versatile, sure, but definitely not pocketable like the GRII. So, I finally got off the pot and ordered it. We’ll see when the GR3 is released if it was a wise purchase. :)

My GR got ruined in a rainstorm and I was holding out replacing it hoping they’d add WR. With the GR III announcement, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. And the price guideline on that camera is “sub 1000 euro”, according to DPReview, which doesn’t look too promising.

I can’t imagine the GR III is twice the camera the GR II (at US$500) is. 24 MP and IBIS are nice, but losing the dedicated exp comp rocker and flash aren’t so nice. WR would have sealed (ha!) the deal for me, though. Ah well.

What do y’all think? Grab a new GR II while they’re still available? I can’t imagine them going much less than US$500 brand new. Maybe $30-$50 more, but that’s negligible in my mind compared to potentially $900 to $1000 for a GR III.

How to view Q digital filters settings after shooting?

That sounds about right. I’ll see if I can track down the original software that came with the Q and see if that works. Thanks!

How to view Q digital filters settings after shooting?

I was going through some old Q jpegs, that I shot using digital filters, and I was trying to figure out which filters I used. So, I loaded up Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4 and took a look at their metadata, but all the images say “—“ under “Digital filter”. Then, I shot a new picture, with a filter applied, and loaded it up. Same thing: “—“ under “Digital filter”.

So, what gives? Does version 4 of the software not read/display this info? I don’t remember what version the camera came with, unfortunately.

Thanks!

I think the take-away here is the K-3II is a relative bargain at its current price, and we'll only see that once its replacement is announced.

Is Image Finishing setting stored in metadata?

Looking through my OOC jpegs from my K-5 II, I'd like to know what Image Finishing setting was used, but I don't see it in any metadata viewer. Is there a utility that shows the info? Thanks!

Did you get rid of all your GXR stuff?

Jump to fuji or not?

I agree with this 100%. I also was looking at Fuji, mainly due to the OOC Jpegs (I don't have a proper post-processing rig) but in the end, I didn't think any of their lenses were comparable to the Pentax Limiteds, for their size and quality. I opted to spend money on a 20-40mm HD Limited, and will add a 15 and 70 in the future. My K-5II with the 20-40 Ltd is the perfect size for me as an every-day carry. I thought the X-T10 was actually too small. I'm sure I'd get used to it, and their 18-55 is highly-regarded, but the Pentax Limiteds are a notch above.

Possible K-5 II moisture problem?

Going from a cold environment to a warm/humid one makes sense for the fogging I experienced. I thought for sure there was significant water inside, since I didn't see the focus-points or shooting info overlays, but they're all back to normal now. Maybe I was mistaken and the shooting overlays were there, but I didn't see them because of the fogging. I'm a little perplexed, but I'll keep an eye on it. (heh, punny)

Yep, that's a distinct possiblity considering the camera is 5+ years old now, and rubber seals don't last forever. It's still working normally now, which is good, but as a (former) IT-guy, I always feel like if you haven't actually fixed the problem, it will return. Usually at the worst possible moment.

Definitely cooler inside. So I went from a cool environment, to a warm/humid environment and back again. That sounds like a good explanation.

Possible K-5 II moisture problem?

Today I was out with my K-5 II around mid-day. It was a little hot and humid outside, but not too bad. I've used this camera just fine in worse conditions.

Anyway, as I was trying to use the camera, the viewfinder was fogged-up, and I tried to wipe the glass clean, but that did nothing. Apparently the moisture was inside. The camera would mostly still function, but I had no overlay info -- no focus point, exposure info, level indicator, etc. Basically, the viewfinder was only showing the scene. I'd get a focus-confirmation beep when pressing the shutter half-way, but nothing visual.

Once I got home, I put the camera down on my desk, went about some other business, and returned to it maybe 10 minutes later to diagnose the problem. I found that the fogginess was gone and the viewfinder overlay functions were back to normal. I was happy to see that the camera seems be working normally, but I'm wondering what happened.

Anybody know what happened? e.g., if there a correlation between humidity and the viewfinder overlay functions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Adam. I came from Nikon, and my old D90 had an LCD overlay. I hope Pentax incorporates it into their APS-C cameras one day.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere. The K-1 is the first Pentax DSLR with glowing LCD focus points in the optical viewfinder overlay. Can somebody comment on whether the K-70 has the same feature?
