It's work only for k100d not for k100d super. I think it's not a problem to get old k100d body for low price. I got mine for 50 EUR particulary for working with lenses.

At first you have to get in debug menu to access lens rom (lenseep.lns file) and save it to SD card.
I used K100d body because with this body is more easy to get into debug menu.
1: Hold INFO and AE-L then power up
2: Press MENU, MENU then INFO in 5 secends
3: You now enter the debug mode
4: Press MENU once
5: Here you go!

It is possible also with other bodies, just search the forum:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/208353-how-...m-f-2-8-a.html

After I used Notepad++ on my pc to edit lenseep.lns (make copy before editting!!!)
Then copy edited file to SD card, enter debug menu once again and load sdited file to lens. That's it. It's easy.

I'm finally decided not to use another lens rom but at first try to disable SDM as for DA*16-50. I took my original lens rom and modified it in the same manner as instructions said for DA*16-50 - replace all c0 values with 80 in column 03. And after that the lens focusing is working in srew mode and - yes it's get in focus now!!! Everything is working! Yes, it's not so fast and more noisy but IT'S WORKING!!!
Thank you all for input!

Please see lens file atached. What if try to replace all c0 with 80 in 03 column like with 16-50? Is it risky?
I wonder that there is less data than in DA16-50 file. Maybe somebody could read original file from another DA*300 and post here?

I tried today. The same behavior - hunting for focus but not recognising when in focus.
It seems that only option is to reprogramm this lens to srew mode only. Is somewhere available instructions - what parameters I need to change in lens config file to to that? Or it's the same as with DA*16-50?

I just got an old k100 body with no SDM contacts. And with this body focusing is working in screw mode. But with K-5IIs and k-01 focus is driving from one end to another but not stops when object is in focus. Also no in-focus sign and no beep but it works in MF mode. I also tried to remove filter and clean lens contacts but no luck :(

The first thing to check is whether the lens works OK on another Pentax body.
I tried the lens on K-01 body - the same problem.

Is your focus target closer than the minimum focus distance of the lens?
Definetly not.

Are the lens contacts clean?
I hope so. Will check.

Are you using a filter on the lens?
Yes, there is a filter for lens protection. Before the lens worked with the same filter.

Is the AF/MF switch engaged?
Of course it's set in AF position.

Is the camera AF in release or focus priority mode? Are you using back-button focus?
Didn't understand the first question. No, I'm not using back-button focus, only half-pressed shutter release button.

If you manually focus the lens do you get focus confirmation at the correct point.
Yes, I do.

Are you really sure the AF working well with other lenses (not hesitant sometimes)?
Yes, as far as I understand it's working correctly

Hi,

I havePentax DA* 300mm F4 lens for 1 year. I purchassed it used in ebay more than year ago. It worked just fine with my Pentax k-5IIs body. But in one day I discovered that AF is not working - SDM motor works but it don't stop when object comes in focus. Other lens works just fine on the same body. Question is - is it possible that AF will work properly with screw drive and is it possible to reprogramm the lens fot that?
Of course - the best option is to repair the lens but it is the real problem in my country (Latvia) because lack of Pentax support in our region.

Is it normaly for k20d that there is presence of visible noise at ISO 400? In some shots noise is more visible in some shots - less visible.

Thank You. I'm mainly using Av mode with ISO 200. As I understood one of my problems is too low iso setting. But witch mode for flash is more recommended - P-TTL or A mode?

Hi,

I'm using the k20d camera for more than 1 year and I'm very satisfied with it. This is my first SLR camera. But one thing I can't understand - how to operate with external flash. I've got Metz 58 AF-1 which is very good and powerfool flash but lot of my shots are under exposed. Especially when I'm trying to bounce flash light from ceiling.
May be I should use some special angle? May be I should use bouncer card? Which mode I should use - P-TTL or A mode? How to operate properly with flash settings? Help me, please!

Hello,

What do you think about Tele-Takumar 400/5.6 Pentax M42 lens for wildlife photography? It's doesn't cost a lot but 400 mm is long enough and with f4.5 ...

How do you think - it's good enough for begining?

Telephoto lens for wildlife

Hi

I`m bought an Pentax K20D camera some weeks ago. Now I have only 18-55mm KIT lens and Sigma 24mm/f1.8 for indoor shooting. But I like wildlife (I'm also a hunter for many years) and I want to try wildlife photography. That's why I need some good but not very expensive telephoto zoom lens.
There I get some avilable options:

1. Sigma Zoom Normal-Telephoto 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF - 999USD
Sigma | 50-500mm f/4.0-6.3 EX DG AF Lens for Pentax AF | 736109

2. Sigma Zoom Telephoto 170-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG Aspherical Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF - 769 USD
Sigma | 70-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG Aspherical AF Lens | 734109

3. Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF - 160 USD
Tamron | 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens | AF017P700 | B&H

4. Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax AF - 380 USD
Tamron | 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di Autofocus Lens | AF061P700

Help me to choose, please. The first 2 options is more expensive, third option is very cheap, also 4th option also is well priced.

May be I don't need 500 mm at begining?
May be I can buy the cheapest one and some tele converter?
May be there are another good lenses?

P.S. I'm living in Europe, it means also that I will have to pay shipping charges and customs fee + VAT (about 20%).
May be there are options how no to pay customs fee and VAT, if somebody can organize the lens as "commercial sample" or "gift"?

You have to set aperture ring on your lenses to "A" position. In any other mode camera can't operate aperture settings.

K20D Front Focusing Issues

Hi
I have the same problem with my k20d. I bought it a cople of weeks ago and when I shot with kit lens, it seemed OK, but then I bought 24mm/f1,8 Sigma and there was a problem to get focused shots.
After that I made focus tests and I found that my camera has front focus! I tried to adjust it thru custom menu and for kit lens the setting -8 was ok - auto fokus now worked properly. But for sigma I tried maximum adjustment -10 and there still was about 6mm front focus!
Last friday I took my camera back for waranty service. But they said that I have to wait for camera about 3 weeks :( because there isn`t pentax service center in Latvia and they have to send my camera for service to Germany.
Now I have only my old Canon S3IS point-and-shot camera :(
