I was very fortunate this past Christmas. My wife bought me a Sony RX100 VII.

I agree.
My cell phone is a great tool because it is the one I always have with me and it can record moments and scenes.
All cameras have limitations.
Cell phones have enough limitations that I'm not about to give up my DSLR or mirrorless.
Whatever tool makes the photographer happy or gets the job done, use it.

This is my biggest gripe about cell phone cameras. Atrocious flair. With mine I can't just use a slightly different angle. If there is strong backlight (like a window) there is just bad flair.

Was on the fence between "in light weather" and "insurance for me". Although when I got I got my first WR body (a K-3 over 10 years ago) one of the first things I did was take it out in a heavy snowstorm with 18-135 attached and walk around for a couple of hours taking photos. When I got home and it was caked with snow I simply let the snow melt, and dried it off with a towel. That setup is still running strong today. I keep an array of WR lenses available for APSC and FF. Thank you Pentax for WR - AW!

Apparently apple has not bothered to update the database (as far as Pentax lenses) in the Photos app for the last 7-8 years. The 55-300 PLM is not recognized (released 2016). Also not recognized are DFA 28-105 and DFA 70-210. These are just the ones I'm aware of, but I suspect all lenses released from Pentax since then are also in the same situation.

Nice pictures. The A*85 is outstanding.

The only real choice for me is the last one.
In trying to be reasonable my thought process is I'd like to get one of the higher end lenses for full frame. Likely DFA 21 f2.4 Limited or DFA 50 f1.4.
Or possibly 1 or 2 FA Limited.
I stepped outside the box and asked for a Sony RX 100vii for Christmas and got it. It was very difficult to RESIST asking for a Pentax lens instead.

The AF 280T is relatively inexpensive. The 2 that I have owned have worked very well. One of them I used with a Super Program many years ago and found it to be a good combination.
Another good option (if you don't need tilt and swivel) is AF 200T, I love this little flash. Its very compact and sturdy, reasonably powerful and has much more manual adjustability than the AF 280T. Also cheaper. I used both but often favored the smaller unit. I still have one of each and find them relevant even on digital (used in auto mode or manual, not TTL).

I have somewhere north of 50 and south of a hundred. Most get no use other than a few polarizers and the occasional ND or UV. Still standing at the ready are some red, yellow, green, orange and blue just in case. Then there is the small collection of Pentax SMC that I covet just because I have this strange infatuation with all things Pentax.

Tough choice between 31 and 77. Probably 31.
Reason; I have all the DA Limiteds and mostly shoot full frame now.

Well, I blew all that off and bought a Sony RX100 VII. Guess that's not a Pentax purchase, but not giving up on these lenses, they will just have to wait.

Coincidentally, I just came to the forum tonight and this is the first thing I read. I was thinking the same thing, so earlier today I bought a Sony RX100 VII. The GR III seems a great camera and I'm a Pentax enthusiast to the core, but just can't do the single focal length thing. Hence, the Sony. Guess I'll see how the smaller sensor pans out. Hope the GRIII brings you joy and contentment. I too am curious how many clicks you got from the K-5IIs.

I'm undecided too. DFA 21 or DFA* 50.
Then there is 31 - 43 - 77...
Dang!
