GR autofocus noise?

Just registered to comment on this particular question (though as a GR owner who is contemplating the K5iis to replace M4/3, I'm glad to find this resource).

I heard a noise for the first time with the camera on AF, and "grinding" is a fairly accurate way to describe it. A quick google lead to this thread but not much else. Normally if you listen real close there are two sounds, the motor and the gentle click of the aperture blades. This was a third noise, in my case when half pressing the shutter button to AF. It happened a bunch of times, at different fstops, and was quite noticable. After I turned the camera off and back on the noise had gone away.
I'll report back if I hear it again.

Hello, newly registered here. I'm a hobbyist and Ricoh GR owner. I bought the 21 lens as well, though I've barely used it yet so can't really comment. My photography history is a little unusual because I more or less sat on the sidelines for the last 15 years, not even a cell phone camera or point and shoot. I got back into it about a year ago, starting with a basic used M4/3 kit with two compact primes, just to see how it felt. I was pretty much hooked, and soon got the GR to kind of fit in with the M4/3 kit (which is now an EPL5 plus the Panasonic Leica 25mm, and soon the Oly 45). I really like M4/3 and feel like I should give it an honest go before deciding on it finally. But I am tempted to switch to perhaps a used or discounted K5iis with a good Sigma or Tamron zoom and maybe one or two bargain primes (I don't have the biggest budget at the moment, so I think the K3 will have to wait, though it looks exciting.) I originally learned on my dad's Spotmatic back in the '80s, and it managed to find it's way into my bag as i left for college etc. and he settled with a point and shoot. That was my camera for a couple of years, with just a great 50mm. So I think I have a bit of brand loyalty, even though I try not to be sentimental about such things and continue to be open to new brands and new concepts.
