you can't compare, they are using jpgs I believe. The fuji (I have one) has one of the best if not the best jpg engines/output of any camera. Its so good I don't even shoot raw with mine. If you're not going to shoot raw and you don't need the benefits of a pro body and autofocus then get the fuji.

Hand held no tripod, this would have been tough to do with a d800 and 500mm lens. |

put any 300-500mm lens on the d800 and I will put the Da*300 on a k3 on par or better. This is why I added the k3 to my tool chest and I can carry it around. I have been saying this for a few months now and people just don't get it.

I made this exact same choice for the exact same reasons, I went with the Da* 300, but I too will get the sigma when it ships.

do you shoot raw? do you make prints?. Could you post up a sample of this noise that seems to affect your k3? I haven't run into it my self and I shoot 3200-6400 and higher all the time. http://500px.com/photo/53480016
this was 1250 pushed a full stop in post

I have shot with a 6d, doubtful you will see much of a difference and if you print you wont.

I would start with auto iso 100 to 6400 ( shot at 6400 is better than no shot!!)
Keep your shutter over 800-1000 if your tracking. (depends on focal length of course )
White balance sunny or whatever you like just not auto.
af-c, center point with sel3 med hold to start, play with this depends subject
aperture at the sweet spot for your lens if its 5.6 or higher sorry get a new lens (just saying) UNLESS its a no action shot but your going to want to keep f8 or lower even then
use the portrait setting, dial in +.7 or +1 exposure comp
use the af button for focus and shutter button for taking the shot (seperate them)
turn off all the in camera correction stuff (I think it slows the camera down) I do use the highlight correction though gives a little more on highlights.
turn sr off but move it the raw button for easy access for no action shots at lower shutter speeds (800 or less- anything over turn it off or if on tripod turn it off)
see how that works for ya

white balance should be sunny or cloudy or shade depending on weather, if you have 20 shots with awb you will end up with all kinds of wb, I leave it on sunny actually 90% of the time, also shake reduction should be off imho can cause problems at higher shutter speeds and when panning i put in on the raw button in case I need it for a stationary slow shutter shot.
i put af on the af button only, shutter is for shutter
course this is just me I guess there is no right or wrong

what kind of birds? location? what lens, tripod or no tripod? what can you hand hold with no ibis? bif or stationary? do you shot jpg or raw?, all factors and I'm sure I missed a few. I will put together a few generic settings that I use and post up tomorrow.

thanks
yeah I do think the best is yet to come, I noticed you have really good lens so that shouldn't be an issue, i will say that the jump to 24meg is tough, its very demanding and takes some getting used to as far as technique and any and I do mean any flaw in your lens will be magnified, White balance and exposure are more important (please dont ask me why but it just seems to matter more not sure how come) with the higher meg sensors but in the end the rewards are worth the effort, and a better lr profile wouldn't hurt lol, but I really don't think that's the issue your having.
