I've just started work in Vietnam - had my photo taken for the company website today - by a K3.
The guy taking the photo didn't speak much English but gave me a big smile when I said "beautiful camera":)

Thanks for the kind words, Jonathan and Tsuken.
I find myself using this lens quite regularly - but I have nothing of a similar length except the kit lens. Maybe one day an FA31....

I'll be honest - it's my first filter and almost certainly my last.

Brute force has done the trick!
I screwed it back on the lens and the first attempt pulled the whole filter off the lens again.
The second attempt got it!
Thanks for your help and time everyone :)

Photo is attached - the grooved rim which is clearly visible is the one which screws onto the lens.
This is turning freely so unfortunately connecting it to a lens or another filter doesn't help with improved grip.
The second turning ring can just be seen - I can't get any access to this at all - also it doesn't screw it just spins.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Unfortunately, nothing has helped - 10 minutes under the hot tap and not even a hint of looseness.
It looks like I now have a screw-in lens cap!

I've searched the forum and found plenty of good advice about how to remove a filter stuck on a lens.
My situation is a little different - I have a Marumi Circular Polarising Filter stuck inside an old-style pinch lens cap.
The filter has two moving rings - the ring that screws onto the lens is easily accessible and turning freely.
The other ring is hidden snugly inside the lens cap and I can't access it at all.
When I squeeze the lens cap to remove it there is no movement, no wiggle or looseness.
Any ideas will be gratefully received.

Have you been yet? I lived in Istanbul for 4 years so I know my way around fairly well.
There are a few hotels and restaurants around the Hagia Sophia that advertise their views - you can't miss them.
A bit more off the beaten track are Balat, Fener and Zeyrek along the Golden Horn. Poorer areas but extremely colourful buildings and full of street life.
For more opulent Ottoman villas you can go to Kuzguncuk near Uskudar on the Asian side, or sail out to the Princes' Islands.
Istanbul people are extremely friendly and very used to tourists - the only problems you might have are taking candids in some of the more conservative areas like Eyup.
Also, if you like second hand lenses, there is a building called Hayyam Han (on the tram line between the Galata Bridge and the Hagia Sophia) which is full of camera dealers.
I hope this post isn't too late to be useful for you!

To get back to the old version just click on any of your photos.
At the bottom left is a white box saying "opt out and feedback"
Click this and then click "go back to the old experience"
That's it

Thanks for all the advice - I've been checking around a few Pentax Pro dealers in the UK and several of them have this
deal going on the 50mm - my shop tell me they can't swap the lenses in the deal around.
So I'll be buying the 50mm and as Ivanvernon points out I'll be able to recover my costs if I don't use it

Hi,
I'm buying A K-30 next month with the 18-55 WR lens. The shop I'm buying from
is offering a Pentax DA 50mm F1.8 for £50 ($80) if bought at the same time.
I know this is a really good price for this lens, ,
but as a first time DSLR owner will it be
a) difficult for me to use?
b)useful in helping me to learn about DSLR photography?
c) too similar to the kit lens?
I live in Istanbul and take 1000's of P&S photo's of anything that catches my eye,
but especially cityscapes, architecture and street life.
Any advice/opinions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Stuart

Hi,
Stuart here (living in Istanbul, from England)
I'm soon to be the owner of a K-30 - my first DSLR and my first Pentax.
I've been reading this forum heavily recently and I've learnt a lot - especially
about how much I've got to learn!
I won't actually collect my camera until I'm back in England for Christmas
but as I'm going to ask a question in the Beginner's Corner I thought I'd introduce
myself here first - so hello from one very excited soon to be Pentax owner.
