I am looking for support to Include a download for Lens Profile Files (.lpc) in the Lens Database.

There are a multitude of old Pentax full frame lenses, still in use today (and some still being sold today), particularly after the release of the full frame Pentax K-1, which are not included in editing softwares standard list of lens profiles.

There was an Adobe Lens Profile Downloader but this is no longer easily available as it has been bundled up with Adobe Photoshop and not everyone has or uses Adobe Photoshop, so it has become awckward to find lens profiles for Pentax lenses.

Therefore I think it would be a nice addition to the Pentax Forums Lens Database to include a download for Lens Profiles, perhaps by a link to a download for each lenses profile on the relevant page which also gives technical information and reviews for each lens available to fit a Pentax camera.

If you support this idea, please let it be known here, thank you.

I take it you will have downloaded these using the Adobe Profile Downloader, which is no longer accesable unless you buy or rent Adobe Photoshop, this for me and probably a good few others is a problem as I can't find any of them anywhere else.

Do you have any of the ones I am looking for?

I may PM you an email address to send them to if you wouldn't mind.

Once I have the profile files I know it's just a simple case of dropping them into the correct folder to be able to use them.

Now if these profiles were attached to the Lens reviews in the lens database then this problem would be resolved for everyone... :)

I also have found that the only FA lenses I can find are the three limited lenses, not even the still available FA 35mm F2 or FA 50mm F1.4 lenses are included!

Would this mean starting a new thread on the subject, including perhaps a vote on whether to add profile files into the lens database or not?

Given the multitude of lenses that are available for Pentax that do not have profiles in photo editing software, I think it could be incredibly handy and could possibly attract hundreds of new users to the site to include .lpc file downloads in the lens database. Thanks :)

Hi Adam,

Thanks for that handy link to adobe, I will have a more intense look at this later.

I believe the profile file has the extension .LPC and these profile files are not unique to Adobe, so in other words most other photo editing software can use these files.

I have been thinking that this site already has a fantastic lens database which gives information and reviews of every lens available to fit a Pentax camera.

Given that I would like to ask, would it do any harm to add in, to the top of each of these lenses pages in the database, a link to a download for that particular lenses profile file?

I think that this could add to the Pentax Forums site's already highly useful lens database, making it more useful than ever before.

Cheers. :)

Since the release of the full frame Pentax K-1 a lens profile database would be very useful I feel.

Does anyone know what's happened to the adobe lens profile downloader at all, I cannot find it, someone (Adobe) said it was bundled with the lens profile creator, which I downloaded but I cannot see it in here either.

I would like profiles for the FA 50mm F1.7, F 28mm 2.8, FA 35mm F2 & FA* 85mm F1.4 & a few other older lenses but that's just me, I'll bet between everyone, that if a lens profile database for every Pentax lens made existed, then each profile would prove useful to someone.

Cheers :)

So this is not peculiar to my K-1 and 58 AF-2. Now my view of the situation is essentially it does work but reports of it being "fully functional" are wrong, as the AF assist and LCD backlights do not work, perhaps either/or both K-1 and 58 AF-2 need another Software update to achieve that full functionality.

---------- Post added 08-12-16 at 02:53 AM ----------

PS as the K-1 has GPS instead of a built in flash (no trigger for off camera flash) there will be a problem using the flash off the camera, many say "Get your flash off your camera", to help with this I have ordered up one of these, which also allows PTTL, off camera...

Thanks virusn3t :) I can't see an entry in the flashes menu for it, I turned it off in the camera menu and it just turns off it's own assist light, I have the K-5 IIs & on it the flashes AF assist works and whenever I focus/meter the LCD backlight on the flash also lights up, on the K-1 it doesn't, on the plus side the flash exposes correctly :)... I have firmware v1.10 on the K-1.

The AF aid on the flash is not active but the green one in the camera still is.

Hi, I installed v5.0 oftware on my 58 AF-2, it works it zooms however when focusing the K-1 still uses its own focus light rather than the red LED on the front of the flash and also the flashes LCD back light does not come on when the camera turns on or it meters, is this normal for now? Thanks

Hi Steve, if you look at the comparison of the K-3 to the K-5IIs from the same site you can see in the specs for aspect ratio; the K-5IIs is 3:2 and the K-3 is 3:2 and 16:9.

I guess it's a misleading review.

Thank you stevebrot, yes your correct, the marks would need to be on the focus screen not the mirror but I did think the K-3 could take 16:9 still images, the specifications in the following link gave me the impression that it did;

Not having laid eyes on one I wouldn't know from practical experience and this is where you came in, so thanks for this handy info, I may have bought one expecting this and that would have been a let down, are you sure? Cheers :)

Hi Adam, I would have thought they would have at least put marks on the mirror for that, never mind, I guess one could guess, or crop it later as I could t the moment with the K-5IIs.

It was night photo's that I noticed the difference and also I find that with the K-5IIs sometimes sunset pics have a greenish tinge, which I don't like, this is driving me towards the K-3, I think after the sale of my K-5IIs the upgrade will cost me around £300, am seriously considering, thanks for your reply Adam, your input is appreciated and it's very encouraging to know that the upgrade would be worthy :)

Hi,

I was reading that the K-3 can take 16:9 format pics as well as 3:2 and am wondering if anyone knows if the viewfinder also changes or if there are marks on the mirror to indicate the frame through the viewfinder for 16:9 format and if it changes in live view mode, thank you.

I, at the moment, have the K-5IIs and am considering changing to a K-3 as I think, going by pics I have seen in reviews, that the colour rendition of the K-3 is possibly more accurate.

Cheers :)
