I did use external flash and yes rear curtain sync was set from the flash itself. If you choose your setting sut as ttl and then turn off your flash just to turn it on again rear curtain sync should be activated. Thats what worked for me at least. Good luck :-)

Tried making it look a bit more creepy. Made a slight crop to change the horizon. Played with slides in lightroom to make it look HDR then decided it looked better in black and white. Changed the numbers really fast in photoshop.

Depends on what kind of shots you want to shoot. You should go to 500px.com (or another image-sharing site) and search fireworks. Like this 500px / Search
This way you'll see plenty of different ways to shoot. Look at their EXIF data and you'll get a decent idea.
In general you should use a remote trigger and shoot wide (you can always crop in post). You should switch off your flash and use a low ISO as fireworks are bright. This also means an aperture between f8 and f16 would be optimal. Remember to use a relatively long shutterspeed.

Na Horuk: It's club manly for young people. Pretty wild crowd and not much respect for how expensive the camera gear actually is. I am quite worried to damage my front element. I constantly have my lens cap on when I'm not shooting.
Sandy Hancock: Thanks I think I'll use the lens hood I posted earlier, but can you recommend any good lens hood for a 62mm lens?

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it next time :)
I've also considered buying a wide angle fish eye lens. I'm thinking it might give an extra special touch but I'm not sure..

Thanks for all the answers guys. I did however have a bit of a problem whenever there was smoke from the machine. Seemed like I couldn't get any clear shots..
I made some decent shots and experienced a bit with longer shutter speeds and rear curtain sync and ss you can see in the images below the shutter speed and ambient light creates quite a different feeling

Hi guys.
Tomorrow I'll go on my first job as a photographer in a nightclub. I'll go with my pentax K-30, a 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 lens, and a Metz 50 AF external flash.
Do any of you guys have any tips to create great shots in this kind of environment? What kind of settings should I use? I'm thinking ISO ~800, aperture ~f4 but I'm not sure about shutter speed. The nightclub has the biggest system of light/lasers which I personally think I should use to create some interesting ambient light. Anything in particular I should be aware of?
By the way, do any of you guys know how to make sure i have rear curtain sync on my flash with K-30?

Since this is the December challenge I tried to make this picture a bit more winterly.
Duplicated the layer, made it infared and changed the layer-mode to color. Then experienced with channel mixer and hue/saturation. I changed the horizon and cropped it a bit. Finally I did the last changes in lightroom.

I think I want the 1.7 the most actually but I can't find it at a reasonable price from a seller who ships to Europe.
How's the bokeh on the 1.8, Adam? I heard it does not produce as attractive bokeh as the 2 other lenses.
Oh and by the way. If anyone has any other suggestions for a 50mm prime I wouldn't mind at all :)

Hi guys.
I've had my pentax k-30 for about 8 months now with the 18-135 3,5-5,6 WR lens and I think it is time for a 50 mm prime (autofocus only), mainly because I really enjoy good bokeh.
I've been researching quite a lot, but I cannot decide which one to buy. Also because I am on a budget.
Lenses I am considering:
SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8 - I am pretty sure I read it is a bit soft wide open, but that around F2.2 it should be sharper than the f1.4.
I've found this lens from a seller in my own country. Brand new and a price around 180 usd which is quite appealing when I'm on a budget.
SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.7 - I've read that this lens is really good and sharp wide open. I seem to have a hard time finding people who sell this lens..
SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 - I've read that this lens is soft wide open but I've also heard that this lens produces the best bokeh.
I would really appreciate som advices. Also if anyone is selling these lenses at a reasonable price feel free to message me :)
